Quotes of the day
posted at 10:55 pm on July 26, 2010 by Allahpundit
Now, in the latest revelations from the Journolist archives, The Daily Caller reprints Journolist emails regarding Trig. And obsessed with Trig they were, filling 15 screens in The Daily Caller post…
[T]he focus was on whether to jump on the bandwagon promoted by Andrew Sullivan and many others that Trig was Sarah’s grandchild not child, and that Bristol Palin was the real mother. As documented here before, this was a very widespread point of attack immediately after Sarah was nominated, and by no means limited to Andrew Sullivan.
Some of the comments, to be fair, were benign and even protective. For example, Mark Kleiman of the Reality Based Community [sic] was all in favor of attacking Sarah on numerous points, but warned others “But leave the kid alone.” Ezra Klein, founder of the Journolist, wrote: “By all accounts she’s a wonderful mother, and devoted to her fifth son [sic]. Leave this be.”
***
It’s tough to fittingly describe these numerous members of the mainstream media who actively engaged in the debate about this conspiracy back when I was first introduced as John McCain’s running mate, and it’s impossible to legitimize any “prominent” media publication that continues to traffic in this bizarre narrative today. It wasn’t just a few fringe characters in that JournoList discussion. It included writers for major newspapers, magazines, and online news publications. Those participating in this immature exchange in attempts to plant seeds of doubt and falsely accuse even included a famous historian.
This JournoList exchange exposes the warped nature of today’s media, thus explaining why many of us are forced, in fairness to the public, to utilize other mediums to communicate until the mainstream media wakes up and begins respecting the public’s intelligence and desire for truth in reporting. There is a sickness and darkness in today’s liberal media. With revelations like the JournoList exchanges, may the light keep shining to expose the problem.
***
By the way, the conspiring on the right goes beyond this: The Daily Caller appears to be deliberately picking subjects from J-List threads that will get it maximum pickup from the conservative media — and right-leaning outlets are obliging.
The Daily Caller builds stories by cherry-picking from threads about Fox News and Rush Limbaugh — and gets rewarded with pickup on Fox News and Rush Limbaugh. It does a story transforming J-List discussion about Sarah Palin into “coordination,” and Palin — who’s fast becoming a media figure in her own right — responds by giving it a big push herself. And on and on.
The real story here is that right wing media are engaged in a coordinated, conspiratorial effort to pretend that J-List proves that there is a Vast Left-wing Media Conspiracy, when the evidence conclusively shows otherwise.

Trig Truther scum. Governor Palin showed considerable restraint in her reaction.

Projection and the “I know you are but what am I?” arguments from the knotheads on the left. Moronic.
bbz123 on July 26, 2010 at 10:59 PM
WHAT evidence?!? Greg Sargent, you idiot. If you want people to believe your story, then convince Ezra Klein to release the complete Journolist archives now. Or, if you were on the list, do it yourself. The people on Journolist can end this at any time by providing all the proof themselves. The more time passes without them doing it, the more it seems that the Daily Caller’s accusations are, in fact, right on the money.
I’m a journalist, but not in the political realm. Are all political journalists as sub-moronic as this guy? Sheesh.

What offends me the most about this whole Journolist episode is that so many of the people contributing saw the truth and were seemingly reasonable, yet apparently did nothing to use their positions to make the dialogue a fair one. If they agreed with the meme they furthered it, if they disagreed with it, they remained silent outside of this list serve. Isn’t that kind of how millions of people ended up dead a few decades back?

It is interesting to think back to John Ziegler’s documentary now that the Journolist e-mails are being exposed and realize how much of a sham the 2008 election coverage was. The drive-bys will never live this down. The fact that Obama is a complete disaster as President only makes it worse.

Reading that complete Trig Palin thread, I’m struck by how immature and, well, just plain stupid many of the supposed leading lights of liberal/progressive journalism and academia are — to say nothing of their vitriol.
If you took away the real names, and added snarky screen names, the thread could have been lifted directly from DKos on one of their worse days.
And yet these people proudly stuck their names to their quotes. Sure, they didn’t expect the world at large to see them, but you’d think they’d even have been embarrassed to have the sane few among the other 400 J-Listers see their stupidity.

Electrongod on July 26, 2010 at 11:25 PM
Sargent on the Journolist is attempting to say that reporting the lefty conspiracy is a conspiracy of greater proportions than his own conspiracy. His little spin is visited by the usual body of washpo syncophants screaming that fox is biased because they don’t conspire with the conspirators but rather conspire within Fox (which would be called a network not a conspiracy). Some fool also has a list of conspiracies which include items like “van jones”. They have gone completely off the edge of reason and are now spinning just to spin. But I guess it’s hard for the Post being so far in the tank for Obama and conspiring with other conspirators to swim to the bottom of the tank where delusions about Trig rest.

What makes the vast right wing conspiracy to prove the great left wing conspiracy even funnier is that there is no evidence of a right wing conspiracy but there is Journolist –evidence of a vast left wing conspiracy. Also the left wing conspiracy was intended to influence elections and policy and the right wing conspiracy (which isn’t) is meant to show the left wing conspiracy not “create” or “ignore” actual news.

But isn’t that basically what all those highly respected journolists and journolism professors from JournoList did to Sarah Palin, Bristol Palin and Trig Palin?

The way the WaPo people are so furiously spinning this, I have the assume that management was well aware of the list and even endorsed it. Actually, the idea of a right-wing conspiracy to misrepresent Journolist might have something to it if Daily Caller possessed but were withholding long threads in which Journolisters argued about how best to investigate Obama, his past, his activities in Chicago and elsewhere, his associations with slumlords, communists, unrepentant terrorists, and Black Liberation Theology advocates – oh wait, the Journolisters did talk about Obama’s mentor marxist Black Liberation Theology advocate Jeremiah Wright – how to get him out of the news.
It’s not just that Journolisters jumped to tear Palin’s narrative to pieces, or that they strove to preserve Obama’s narrative – it’s that many of them coordinated to do both. That’s not journalism, it’s what one Journolister approvingly called the “unofficial campaign.” They were acting not as journalists or even as opinion journalists but instead as Obama campaign operatives embedded in the media.

This is a full on conspiracy-propaganda fest. Were the shoe on the other foot the Left (not that its not trying to turn it into it) would be screaming “Fascist”. Oh the irony.
I brought up this whole thing with a Left leaning friend, he jumped right to “FOX News is bad”, as if A, FOX hides what it is – they don’t and B, the mainstream media shrouds itself in being “objective”. Its not, we come to find out it is about as objective and self correcting as other (mainly) Leftist professions that cloak themselves in “objectiveness” which is to say not at all.

Not nutty at all. The leader of the free world, smartest President we’ve ever been gifted in having shouldn’t have an issue with opening up his transcripts.

Martin Luther King wouldn’t even recognize today’s NAACP, which is eerily similar to the Klan of old. It appears to embrace hatred based solely upon race, an ideology that is closer to Germany of the thirties than King’s America.

That and its not typical that actual smart people go out of their way to hide such things. Generally they’re proud of their performance.

The Journolisters sound like vengeful, nail-fighting transvestites and/or gender-confused individuals: obsessed with a woman’s child, obsessed with her reproductive abilities and behaviors (and physiology).
I don’t understand it but I’m guessing there will be no satiation to the Journolister/associated bunch who are otherwise rather obsessed people and not necessarily about decent boundaries of others.
Lourdes on July 27, 2010 at 5:39 AM
I think it’s called “Insecurity”. You’ve heard of the Napolean Complex, have you not? There are several varieties of disorders of the mind that involve personal physiology of a reproductive (or lack thereof) nature, and I’m trying to be delicate here in my choice of words.
The Journolisters continue, in my view, to be revealed to be sick people, yes, but motivated by some sort of unnatural obsession that very likely as not relates to their concept of “control” or, rather, their inability to manage it.
