Quotes of the day
posted at 9:10 pm on July 24, 2010 by Allahpundit
Taking questions from liberal activists at the Netroots Nation conference this morning, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made a number of claims about Obama administration jobs data that don’t hold up to close scrutiny…
During her talk, Pelosi also made the claim that the economic stimulus bill “saved or created 3.6 million jobs.”
Yet that’s a number that’s completely made up by the administration, and even Christina Romer, chair of the Obama administration’s Council of Economic Advisers, admitted to me earlier this year that it was hard to accurately make these sorts of economic forecasts…
***
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, seeking to console liberal activists who were disappointed by the final version of the national health care law, assured them that there would eventually be a public option.
“We’re going to have a public option,” Reid said. “The only question is when.”…
“Social Security is the most successful social program in the history of the world,” he said.
***
While the federal government sinks deeper into debt than any time since World War II, former White House “green jobs” adviser Anthony Van Jones said it was time to stop worrying about budget deficits and pressure Washington to take more money from American businesses to fund larger social and infrastructure projects.
“This is a rich country. We have plenty of money, and if you don’t believe me, ask Haliburton,” Jones told a group of progressive bloggers and activists at the Netroots Nation convention Friday. “There’s plenty of money out there; don’t fall into the trap of this whole deficit argument.”
“The only question is how to spend it,” he added.
***
[Grayson] went on to outline an agenda for “working people” that included making it easier to unionize, and guaranteed paid sick leave and paid vacation.
“We need to have paid vacation,” he declared. “Why? Because we are not slaves.”…
In closing his speech, he announced that, “What we’re promising people is a new New Deal.”

SS – How many hundreds of billions paid in and stolen since it’s inception?
obamacare – will be nonstop stealing of trillions, and, even more grave than the theft in dollars, will be the theft of freedom of conscience. Abortion paid by our tax dollars – this must not stand! Mass tax witholding, or we’ll have the same blood on our hands as obama, pelosi and reid already do. We’ll be part of the demonic cabal, not warriors against it!
My God, spare us from becoming the same vacant, evil-eyed zombies that they are.
There must be a bigger better word to describe what is happening. Grand theft, larceny, fraud – all just to puny to come close…

Sorry Mr. President, I know you’re exercising your juvenile sense of command and professorial pseudo-skills by making declarative statements that impede objectivity by fawning journalists, but I must disagree with you from a Constitutional basis on the origins of change. You do remember that document that you used to refer to occasionally when you taught in law school, right?
According to both the Constitution change is supposed to come from lawfully-selected representatives of the people coming to agreements with one another in order to effect change that could then be legally binding. I know you don’t care; as you’ve said in your speech, you’re trying to move our country so far down the road that any succeeding pragmatic generation will not be able to return America to where it was.
Change should never come from a Community Organizer Summit in which the community organizer who has a thousand thugs on his payroll, or the blogger who has 2000 email addresses in his rolodex has greater access to propose legislation than my lawfully-elected Representative in the US Congress, just because my Congressman comes from a red district.
Americans represented by members of the minority party–under Pelosi’s rules–do not have the same rights as those represented by Democrats.
This President has not only subverted the entire purpose of government in relation to the American people but he, Pelosi and Reid have also changed the entire way representative government is supposed to function. This whole cabal needs to go!!

LAS VEGAS — President Obama and other Democratic leaders appealed to a gathering of prominent liberal activists Saturday, seeking to win back a disenchanted constituency that appears uninterested in helping the party avoid large losses in November’s midterm elections.
Obama acknowledged that for many Americans, “change hasn’t come fast enough.” He said he shared that frustration, but he asked liberals to stick with him and the party.
“Change is hard, but if we’ve learned anything these past 18 months, it’s that change is possible,” Obama said, adding, “Let’s finish what we’ve started.”
“Change is hard, but if we’ve learned anything these past 18 months, it’s that change is possible,” Obama said, adding, “Let’s finish what we’ve started.”
Even so, some of the 2,100 liberal activists gathered here for a three-day conference were stewing over the Obama agenda and said they would do little to protect Democratic majorities in Congress.
“There’s a lot of Democrats I’ll be happy to see go,” said Markos Moulitsas, who founded the convention five years ago as an offshoot of his Daily Kos blog. “There is a price to be paid for inaction and incompetence. We’re not getting much done with 59 [Democratic senators], so if we’re down to 54, who cares?”
Obama and some congressional Democrats were too moderate in their approach to health care and have failed to act on other issues, the activists say.
By the conference’s close Saturday, liberals had swallowed a dose of reality from the Democratic Party’s top officials.
The gates to a progressive agenda have opened under Democratic control, she said, and they will close if Republicans seize power.
‘Lost and lonely’
Obama’s 2008 campaign was “a campfire that all kinds of beautiful people came together,” said Van Jones, a progressive activist and former White House “green jobs czar.” But, he said, progressives started feeling “lost and lonely” during the administration’s quest for bipartisanship.
“We had hope and change, and nobody managed the hope part,” Jones said in a keynote address that was among the best received.
Nevertheless, Jones said it is “baffling” that liberals are mad at Obama. “When you guys get mad at the president, I can’t stand it,” Jones said. “Barack Obama, President Obama, volunteered to be the captain of the Titanic after it hit the iceberg.”

These men do not know the world of hurt being stored up for their prime constituency. A new economic downturn has reportedly been taking shape since mid-November 2009. So it seems it cannot be very long before employees of the “federal” government begin to participate in the economic trouble through which the rest of the Americans have already suffered since 2007.

Adblock is a free plugin you can install from inside Firefox.
Tools > Add-ons
BUT I hate pop-ups with a passion, especially since they’re a prime method malware authors use, pushing them from ads, to get you to authoriza installation of a virus (they can make a pop-up authorize an installation when you click on the “x” to close it). As a specialist in virus cleanups, I consider pop-ups to be a security risk, plain and simple.
If HA tries to get past the ad blockers by going to in-page pop-ups that override the page view and require you to click to continue, I’d stop coming here too.
Newsbusters did that at one point and I quit. Looks like they may have stopped doing it now.
Ads as ads are fine, I consider “pop-ups” to be browser hijacks – what would you call it?

Under glare of Sherrod case, black farmers, Indian landowners still wait for settlement money
Jul 23, 2010
WASHINGTON – Black farmers, due $1.2 billion for a legacy of discrimination by the U.S. Agriculture Department, suffered a new and disheartening setback this week, despite the national spotlight provided by the quickly disavowed firing of a black department worker.
The Senate refused again to pay the bill.
Opponents say it is a question of where the money would come from, and that is a a major issue with an election nearing and votersup in arms about federal spending.
Late Thursday, the Senate stripped $1.2 billion for the claims from an emergency spending bill, along with $3.4 billion in long-overdue funding for a settlement with American Indians who say they were swindled out of royalties by the federal government

Vilsack and Holder Announce “Pigford 2″ USDA Settlement
with Black Farmers
——————
WASHINGTON, Feb. 18, 2010 – U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today announced the successful resolution of the longstanding litigation known as Pigford II. The settlement agreement reached today, which is contingent on appropriation by Congress, will provide a total of $1.25 billion to African American farmers who alleged that they suffered racial discrimination in USDA farm loan programs. The settlement sets up a non-judicial claims process through which individual farmers may demonstrate their entitlement to cash damages awards and debt relief.

The liberals as a whole are totally blinded by ideology. I’ve never seen anything like it. You can’t even have a discussion with one without a snarling, vicious, attack, coming from them, at the first sign of common sense.
Yes, that’s what it is. A complete lack of common sense. I’ve noticed it in all hardcore liberals.
Hence the many references when discussing them, of fairies, unicorns, and pixie dust. They seem separated from reality, and genuinely afraid of hearing or discovering the truth.
They are forever prisoners of their alter-reality.
If you won’t hear the truth, it can never set you free!

********************** Ads *********************
You don’t need anything special to block ads. I was irritated for a while and the length of time it takes various pages to load because of the ads. My pages now load very quickly.
All you really need is a “hosts” file. Typically on a Windows system, it resides in C:\Wndows\System32\drivers\etc
The file is names hosts (no extension) and is a text file. Some example entries from my file are:
127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.1 fr.a2dfp.net
127.0.0.1 m.fr.a2dfp.net
127.0.0.1 ad.a8.net
127.0.0.1 asy.a8ww.net
127.0.0.1 adserver.abv.bg
127.0.0.1 adv.abv.bg
127.0.0.1 bimg.abv.bg
127.0.0.1 www2.a-counter.kiev.ua
127.0.0.1 track.acclaimnetwork.com
127.0.0.1 accuserveadsystem.com
127.0.0.1 http://www.accuserveadsystem.com
127.0.0.1 achmedia.com
127.0.0.1 aconti.net
127.0.0.1 secure.aconti.net
127.0.0.1 http://www.aconti.net #[Dialer.Aconti]
127.0.0.1 ads.active.com
127.0.0.1 am1.activemeter.com
127.0.0.1 http://www.activemeter.com #[Tracking.Cookie]
All it does is refer the actual web sites (advertisers) to the address of your localhost… your local machine. When pages load, any of the sites referenced look to your local machine (very fast) and don’t find them. When the page finishes loading, all you have is a “page not found” message where the ad would have loaded.
You can find a pretty fully populated file on the net and the great advantage is you can add to it as needed.

The only roadblock to their complete and permanent takeover of the US is the American people. It is galling to them that it’s taking so long to placate or cow the populace. They have made great strides over the past hundred years when viewed as a whole but the steps were incremental. They have grown impatient and want the whole enchilada now. They seem less willing to allow future generations of progressives to continue the march and believe the final solution is within their grasp. But too many crazy, liberty-obsessed citizens still remain and now, for some unknown reason, they are pushing back against the pure intentions and angelic actions of the progressives.
I will not be surprised to see sterner measures used against those pigheaded insurrectionists. It may not be enough to just call them seditious and racist and obstructionist. Examples must be made to drive the point home. But these examples must be palatable to the press so the media is not lost as the left’s unpaid translators to the great unwashed. They have already overreached and walked out onto the thin ice. They haven’t fallen through yet, so they believe they can go further safely. But the ice must and will break and the only questions left will be how they drown; in a sea of ballots or something else.
Can we still salvage liberty without the use of the big ugly “R” word? I pray for the strength to believe but I believe less every day.

Dingy Harry’s speech was complete classic class warfare. The history of US was not one of freedom and economic benefits ever expanding but one of the powerful vs the powerless with the democrats always being on the side of virtue and the powerless. And oh, those evil corporations (who for some unknown reasons seem to donate to those same democrats) got a good drubbing too. Slightly OT, but did anyone notice that Reid and Captian Kick-Ass BOTH wore Purple ties yesterday? That’s been happening a lot lately. Gibbs has been sporting his too.
Somebody start a purple tie count as we go through these next 100 days. Could be fun……..

I don’t think it is about popups so much as it is about pages taking too much time to load. Most of the ads you see on a page aren’t really part of the source code for that page but are links to another site that provides the content to fill a certain area on the page loading. These “hosts” entries kill that access to those remote site replacing them with a local reference to essentially nothing. As a result, instead of waiting for many different sites to respond while you page is loading, you only wait for one.

I thought we couldn’t go to Vegas. What’s wrong with the Gulf Coast convention sites? Oh yeah, Obama’s incompetence has poisoned them for the next 200 years.

Shorter Van Jones: Deficit Shmeficit. Halliburton still has money!!
It’s such a simple difference between the left and the right. One side actually respects private property, the other feels free to take as much as they want of other people’s money.

That’s exactly what this is – an in-page popup.
Here are some screenshots:

It does that for every article I click into. These in-page popups are the most obnoxious thing, and I hear nothing back from Ed or Allah about it, so I’m left to assume that the annoyance of it is irrelevant to them.
I’ll check back in a couple of weeks, as I said. I hope they address this issue.

This is a rich country. We have plenty of money, and if you don’t believe me, ask Haliburton,” Jones told a group of progressive bloggers and activists at the Netroots Nation convention Friday. “There’s plenty of money out there; don’t fall into the trap of this whole deficit argument.”

Re: “[Grayson] went on to outline an agenda for “working people” that included making it easier to unionize, and guaranteed paid sick leave and paid vacation. “We need to have paid vacation,” he declared. “Why? Because we are not slaves.””
Someone in the last week or so (not here) used the analogy of living in a company town, where you work in the mine, live in a company house, company owns the schools, stores, etc. It’s a situation comparable to where the socialists are taking us, only of course everything would be gummint.

Shamelessly unmasking themselves, from obama on down.
The thing that makes me enraged is that this statement, the most nakedly arrogant, in-your-face, triumph-of-the shake-down-of-a Nation, assumes:
1. The money is “out there” i.e., in the free market; belonging to The People in their individual and corporate entities; not in governement hands — earned through the blood, sweat and tears of generations of millions of honest Americans.
2. This part of the Van Jones equation remains unspoken and is infuriating in it’s hubris, but most of all because it is tragically true —- THE GIVEN THAT THESE TYRANTS WILL GET OUR MONEY ——- And, why should they think otherwise??? INCREDIBLY, they have already stolen more than 60% of the free market in 18 months. Stolen through the theft of GM & Chrysler, TARP, Stimulus, the “Financial Regulation” Bill, obamacare, Fannie and Freddie, and coming energy heist legislation, vat tax, and on and on…..
3. So, in their unfortunately well earned arrogance, the “problem” IS NOT how to loot The People, impoverishing the nation for generations to come, no, THEY OBVIOUSLY DON’T FEAR THE PEOPLE, BECAUSE THEY’RE ALREADY TWO-THIRDS OF THE WAY HOME ON TRANSFERING THE FREE MARKET INTO GOVERNMENT CONTROL.
Van Jones just has the pesky problem of deciding how to spend the pillaged wealth of America…..i.e., which Swiss and off shore banks will hide their stolen billions best…
As a side note, Van Jones’ “green czar” office was funded (and it could be more) to the tune of 60 Million tax dollars. When the “green czar” position closed out, where did the 60 Million go? Probably just converted into Van Jones slavery reparations.
The globalist handlers of these revolting political “bag men”, make organized crime throughout history look piddling.
Conclusion: Soros picked the right puppet when he picked obama – who, saddest of all things to say, absolutely deserves a solid A+
The nation is riddled with domestic enemies – seen and unseen, who have ALREADY bankrupted and sold America to foreign states, i.e., red china.
obama’s spiderweb networks, Organizing for America and the Acorn vote fraud team are gearing up for November – the conservatives have no such organizations to counter them.
imo, we’re not even close to dawn.
Almighty God can turn this around in a heartbeat – but will He if we don’t even have the makings of a Human Life Amendment to offer Him in reparation for the 40 million children killed before birth on our shores?
Sadly, as an “abortion nation”, with what do we go to Him to show our good faith in exchange for His deliverance from the grip of such evil as we are witnessing? Do we think He is unmoved by the loss of His 40 million precious innocents, while too many of us went about our lives, enjoying our America? Why should He spare us when we don’t, as freedom loving Americans, banish abortion from among us?
From 1776 to 1973, taking an uborn life was considered an abomination – now it is enshrined as a “constitutional right”.
And our nation has been going over the cliff ever since.
We can fight now, to live once again, reverencing all unborn life as we did before 1973, as proud strong Americans, or we can keep fighting for “fringe rights”, i.e., our money. Which fight will bring to us the power of God Himself, empowering us to win it all?
