Video: Journolist’s success in setting the message
posted at 12:15 pm on July 23, 2010 by Ed Morrissey
A follow-up, of sorts, from yesterday’s post about Journolist, Joe Klein and Time Magazine, and Sarah Palin. The argument against the Journolist was that it represented an attempt by a few hundred activists to spin media coverage of events and conservative politicians. Daily Caller’s Jonathan Strong reported that Klein had regurgitated the Journolist talking points into a Time Magazine blog post and passed them off as his own thoughts:
Time’s Joe Klein then linked to his own piece, parts of which he acknowledged came from strategy sessions on Journolist. “Here’s my attempt to incorporate the accumulated wisdom of this august list-serve community,” he wrote. And indeed Klein’s article contained arguments developed by his fellow Journolisters. Klein praised Palin personally, calling her “fresh” and “delightful,” but questioned her “militant” ideology. He noted Palin had endorsed parts of Obama’s energy proposal.
This piece came out when McCain named Palin as his running mate. Keep that in mind when watching this clip from How Obama Got Elected, shown at the front end of an interview between Bill O’Reilly and John Ziegler, who pointed this Brian Williams report out to me. The meat of the point comes right at the beginning:
Now, I seriously doubt that Brian Williams ever participated in Journolist, and it’s not exactly a shock to see a network news anchor use a Time Magazine article as the basis of analysis on a major story. However, it does show that Klein successfully turned a Journolist strategy into media coverage on Palin, which makes his lack of honesty in sourcing those talking points even more of an issue.

That’s the missing piece here. Back when Journolist first blew up, a few months ago, there was also information about two conference calls, one for bloggers run by Jane Hamster, and a second run by (?) Stephalopogus. There was some question whether or not they had someone from the WH on it.
I believe Journolist is only one of several means of collusion going on out there. To link it to the official WH propaganda office, all it would take is a few common subscribers. This is a network, not just one email list.

I am in the same boat. I just happened to be running some work-related errands as Limbaugh was reading segments of the article and kept thinking “this is so true.”

Jeff Goldstein nailed the issue with this.
and this. With added wisdom from Morgan Freeman on how to deal with race issues going forward.

Come on Ed. Change your brand of Kool Aid. Williams is a media whore like all the others in TV, radio or newsprint. They are domestic enemies of the people and of the state.

The only thing that would really drive a nail in the MSM coffin right now would be if the O’bama “Birthers” turned out to be right. If that happened, they would all be exposed not only as partisan shills, but as partisan shills willing to break the law to advance their partisan cause.

From Insty on Journolist, from yesterday:
That is what happens when competitors collude with each other to coordinate their activities. And when it is aimed to take out other competitors, like FNC, then you have definite grounds to consider this to be a real violation of anti-trust regulations.
It isn’t just a bunch of talking points, it is attempting to corner the media market by colluding with each other to push certain ideas forward so as to establish a power relationship to remove a competitor. That then gains you market and income as some of the viewers of FNC then go elsewhere for news coverage.
So for all the Leftists who love getting on-board anti-trust violations, you can join up on lobbying against the members of Journolist on this. If you wouldn’t take it from, say, mid-level oil company managers working to get rid of a prosperous competitor by pushing out ideas that said competitor’s products weren’t any good, then you should be able to get on this bandwagon. That is if you really and for true believe yourself when you say you are against anti-trust violations and don’t like collusion to corner a market.
But then I don’t expect honesty, consistency or even a modicum of ethical behavior from the Left these days. I can be easily proven wrong by the Left denouncing this… but so far its crickets… lots of crickets.

“The argument against the Journolist was that it represented an attempt by a few hundred activists to spin media coverage of events and conservative politicians.”
No. It was much, much more than that.
“Now, I seriously doubt that Brian Williams ever participated in Journolist..”
Why give him the benefit of the doubt?

“So… An Obama campaign operative interacted on the Journolist with sympathetic media types in the run-up to the election, and then rewarded favored Journolistas with a visit to the White House.”

Here is the most shocking statement in the article:
What on earth did 9/11 have to do with Progressive politics? I thought it was about the murder of 3,000 Americans and an attack on everything America stands for. Do these people even consider themselves to be Americans? I guess not.

And why is that? Because he has proven to be so balanced in his reporting? Or maybe because everyone else at NBC is above reproach?
Take your head out of the sand. They all use the same brain.
There is no original thought… every thing is to accomplish the down fall or liberty. That is the end game. Control and power. That’s it.
There are no good guys on the left anymore. If there ever was in the first place.
It is a myth… like the moderate Democrats who didn’t help pass the Health bill in the dead of a Christmas eve night, oh yeah, they dodn’t exist anymore than the guy in the red suit brought the toys!
They have ALL chosen the side of evil. It’s time you faced up to it.

I’m amazed Ed. You got the words “Klein” and “honesty” in the same sentence.

CNN Talking Head: “I SAID, NOTHING TO SEE HERE!”
JournoList 2.0 is up and running, meet the new boss – oh, sorry, he’s in hiding, just like the old boss.

C’mon, these people play for keeps. They had a coordinated attack planned for all the possible VP candidates McCain had to choose from, ready for the moment of the announcement. Hopefully our side does it as well.

I see your point. We are talking about the anchor who bowed to Pres. Obummer when granted an interview at the White House.
Captain Scarlet on July 24, 2010 at 6:16 AM
Yeah lonesomecharlie, that got me too.
Always remember: Liberals regard anything that unifies and strengthens the resolve of America as their enemy. To them, the power of America is an affront to nature, and they see themselves as the ones who must cripple it. A few do this out of belief in communism or anarchism, but they are the “seeds” that influence the greater majority of liberals that are motivated by simple-mindeded ideas about the moral superiority of the primitive or the poor. They are all profoundly confused and dangerous people.
One of them is President of the United States.
