Sherrod: Breitbart wants to take us back to the days of slavery
posted at 5:17 pm on July 23, 2010 by Allahpundit
Via Dan Riehl, I can see that she’s going to do a bang-up job in that new racial-healing position that Vilsack’s lined up for her. Whether this is her lashing out in anger after having been treated unfairly or whether she really believes something this insane about Breitbart, only she knows, but it’s telling that Cooper doesn’t challenge it. One of the lessons of this week, supposedly, is that we should beware of caricatures in racial matters, not only because people are more complicated in practice but because the fallout from misjudgment is culturally poisonous. See, e.g., the initial clip of Sherrod versus her full NAACP speech. But here she is pushing a caricature of her own — with no evidence to support a charge this incendiary — and Cooper the journalist lets it slide, presumably because he’s squeamish about siding with Breitbart against someone who, to his audience, is a sympathetic victim. What a perfectly depressing note on which to end a depressing week.

Perhaps Andrew should sue Ms. Sherrod.
carbon_footprint on July 23, 2010 at 5:19 PM
She’s nothing but a shill for Obama.
I did feel sympathy, although momentarily, for her…but not anymore.
She needs to wake up, and look around her. The only ones trying to enslave anyone, are those she’s buddying up with, and shilling for! Get a clue woman!!!
capejasmine on July 23, 2010 at 5:20 PM
Vid not working
What did she say ?
macncheez on July 23, 2010 at 5:20 PM
Obama told her to say this racially inflamatory thing as a condition of her new job offer.
Liberals have taught me that facts don’t matter.
GardenGnome on July 23, 2010 at 5:21 PM
Go ahead and sue, pal. Prepare for the counter-suit if you do.
MadisonConservative on July 23, 2010 at 5:21 PM
She forgot use the Klan reference, Nazis, & didn’t mention a lynching. She’ll do better once she has a sit down with Jesse Jackson & Al Franken.
She really has to improve her race baiting if she wants to compete in the big leagues.

Keep talking Mrs. Sherrod.

FWIW, it shows her real character.

These frickin’ lefties sure don’t screw around with the projection hyperbole, do they? I’m only surprised she didn’t say Breitbart wants to return to slavery while forcing the slaves to build their own gas chambers.
fiatboomer on July 23, 2010 at 5:22 PM
Sherrod cannot help herself from her racism.
Inanemergencydial on July 23, 2010 at 5:22 PM
Slavery?! WHAT?!
The USDA needs to rescind that job offer. NOW.
Actually y’know what?
Let her keep talking she may succeed where Jeremiah Wright tried and failed.

It is frightening what that man is doing to this country. We were doing so well, coming so far and he had to ruin it. I fear for my children.

Well, in her mind, not having a government job that you can never be laid off from is like being a slave.

Mark1971 on July 23, 2010 at 5:24 PM
She better go ahead and accept Obama’s offer of her old job back very quickly before he changes his mind.
The more she talks to the media, the more she’s justifying her original firing.

I’m in the camp that that feels if you give a horse thief enough rope, he’ll hang himself. I know they don’t realize it, but they’re peeling “rope” off by the yard and handing it to this woman. This will not end well for her…kind of like watching a train wreck. You don’t want to look cuz’ you know what’s coming, but…

Ms. Sherrod has made her living from leadership positions in government-funded groups and jobs since she left the SNCC. The position she lost was a politically-appointed position. She knows how to work the system.
kingsjester on July 23, 2010 at 5:25 PM
So we’re back to the start of this whole thing – an NAACP person making wild accusations of racism with nothing to back it up.
forest on July 23, 2010 at 5:25 PM
A lot of people weren’t listening before, but I have a feeling a lot more are listening now. This endless barage of racism attacks is getting old. I can’t believe Dems are stupid enough to believe it’s gonna work a second time! Yeesh!
capejasmine on July 23, 2010 at 5:25 PM
he called breitbart a bully earlier in the week, he ain’t going to side with AB and challenge her, he more than likely agrees with her
cmsinaz on July 23, 2010 at 5:25 PM
I think it is great!! Keep her talking. I hope she sues Breitbart. I can’t wait for the depositions! Maybe even get a few JornoListers under oath too!

Blarg the Destroyer on July 23, 2010 at 5:27 PM
Where is your proof Shirley? Since you have none stfu This is what the race hustlers always resort to. Conservatives want to go back to slavery. The only slavery i see us going towards is the marxist/communist/socialist ideals that Shirley and her friends at the NAACP and the WH support.

I’m pretty sure Walter Williams and Thomas Sowell aren’t convinced.
ebrown2 on July 23, 2010 at 5:27 PM
well, this should be fun to watch.
I’m guessing the Sherrod love-train will be off the rails soon.
She should just use the Dreyfus analogy that Olbie used and make herself a COMPLETE joke.
mjk on July 23, 2010 at 5:28 PM
Either way you try and interpret Sherrod’s comments it is not good for her. I think the likely meaning is that she is claiming that Breitbart wants to make slaves out of African Americans. I guess the Democrats realized they were not making any ground by calling us Nazis since the charge could be easily thrown back in their face. Calling us racists, while refutable, seems to be sticking. Is it time for another beer summit: Sherrod, Breitbart, and Obama?
Blue Collar Todd on July 23, 2010 at 5:28 PM
yup
cmsinaz on July 23, 2010 at 5:28 PM

fogw on July 23, 2010 at 5:32 PM
Turns out the White House AND the blogosphere was too quick to rush to judgment in RE-HIRING her. Her speech was just what so many speeches on racism by racists are — pretty words meant to reflect what she knows she is SUPPOSED to think. But when it all boils down to it, what she really believes — which you get at when she is not reading prepared words, but what she says off the cuff — is that anyone who criticizes a black person or a black organization is automatically racist.
She needs to be fired — again.
American Elephant on July 23, 2010 at 5:33 PM
Sorry, that should have been “Shucks.”
MayorDaley on July 23, 2010 at 5:33 PM
I think the Sherrod media blitz is great. If the left was smart they would start to end her 15 minutes, because she is a ticking time bomb. How long can she go before she says something similar to what she said at the NAACP event?
DFCtomm on July 23, 2010 at 5:33 PM

Dusty on July 23, 2010 at 5:34 PM
The more she talks the more she confirms that she is a first class racist. She said the statements on the video not Andrew Breitbart, and if you watch the entire video it shows that not only is she a racist she is also a marxist, like her boss, Obama.
The first thing they do when in hot water- is to throw the race card out. The NAACP is full of racists. I am surprised that they have not made Pastor Wright- the chaplin. They and Pastor Wright are on the same page. Notice how the biggest racists in the US- Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Wright all claim to be men of the cloth. What a joke that is!
flintstone on July 23, 2010 at 5:34 PM
She’s the one who admitted actual racism (not the fake kind that many people are accused of these days) and now she’s spewing this garbage?

I agree. The usefulness of “context matters” is irrelevant now.

Sherrod is no surprise. Just who do you think are the dipsh!ts who man the desks at all your government agencies? They ain’t the best and brightest. You are at the mercy of racist idiots like her, thanks to your Congress allowing government to grow into every aspect of your life. Believe me, I lived in DC for over a decade. I worked for a Federal agency. It ain’t pretty.

I think she just played the double-secret nuclear option race card. She’s not saying race may have played a role in his actions, or that he’s a bigot or a racist. She’s not even saying he wants to go back to the days of segregation.
He’s soooo racist he wants to go the whole way back to the days of slavery! And how does she know this? Because he posted a video that made her look bad, so obviously he’s in favor of slavery.
forest on July 23, 2010 at 5:38 PM
Not depressing. The week has been utterly entertaining and there is so much more of this to come. She won 12 million from suing her boss at USDA. Wait until she’s through with the govt/our taxes. She can send Bretibart thank you notes and pay him commissions.
What a gountry. The only sane person, and the irony, the irony, is Mr. Webb.

Any sympathy I may have had for this woman disappeared when she was offered her job back. She has since shown her true colors that also happened to have been on display during the NAACP speech she gave.

Schadenfreude on July 23, 2010 at 5:39 PM
Yep.
With no evidence other than Breitbart being a conservative who called her comments racist, she says that he’s motivated by racism and wants to enslave blacks. Just when I began to doubt Breitbart, the bigot just proved him right. She just proved that she, “has not gotten past Black verses White”.
elfman on July 23, 2010 at 5:39 PM
I happened to watch this entire exchange last night. Sherrod could not shut up. She was on a racist rampage, going at Breitbart with all the pent-up anger she was sitting on and kept from expressing at those who actually either fired her…Obama and Vilsack…or led to her being fired: the NAACP.
It was an extraordinary one-sided exchange, where Coopie said a word or two and Sharrod just vaulted into white hot, non-stop vitriol. If Anderson hadn’t finally mercifully stopped her, her rant would have gotten even more racist.
Honestly, the woman was just warming up. That there was no basis for her accusations and assumptions was no deterrence for her. (And Coopie just nodded and prompted more outrage with his assent).
The extent of this woman’s racism, simmering just below the surface and unleashed by her day on television, is honestly mindboggling.

Schadenfreude on July 23, 2010 at 5:41 PM
This woman is like someone who is accused of a misdemeanor. Turns out she is innocent of that misdemeanor, more or less anyway, but is guilty of 5 other misdemeanors and 3 felonies, and she is still racking them up, and yet she is regarded by many as a victim deserving an apology and even by some as a heroine deserving accolades. This is intellectual and moral bankruptcy as she is now stinking to high heaven.
Tav on July 23, 2010 at 5:42 PM
I really thought this story was dead and Breitbart would end up as the badguy. But she’s vindicating him… and she doesn’t even understand why and yet she gives speeches claiming she recognizes her own inherent racism but then her socialist training kicks in and she realizes its all class warfare and then turns around and lashes out at a capitalist figurehead (Breitbart) in a racial manner.
Leftists are friggin’ PAKLIDS!

Yup, she had a conversion, alright. She must have been taken out of context when she said FoxNews wants to bring back the 3/5 compromise, that Breitbart wants to bring black slavery, that Republicans are racist, and that they don’t like Obama b/c he’s black.
mcg0125 on July 23, 2010 at 5:43 PM
Ya know, I listened to Sherrod’s entire speech, and was inclined to think of her as a decent person.
She’s just shot that impression in a single sentence. She has no basis whatsoever for judging Breitbart’s character the way she has. It’s irresponsible, hateful, and divisive.
Maybe she’s just upset because she lost her job, but that’s no reason to engage in character assassination on national television. This is completely over the top.

From the get go, the two things in her NAACP speech that raised red flags were her saying “his kind” about the white farmer, and her self-correction that “it is about black and white.”
For a woman who supposedly learned her lesson about racism, she uses awfully salty language to prove it.
…and interviews like this one will do nothing to help the situation.
