Video: NAACP posts full Sherrod video

posted at 8:30 pm on July 20, 2010 by Allahpundit

We wanted it and now we’ve got it. Forty-three minutes and 15 seconds. I haven’t had time to watch all of it — the full clip will be crowdsourced in the comments, I’m sure — but skip ahead to 16:30 for the segment about the white farmer and stick with it until at least 24:00 or so. She actually introduces the story by saying how she started working in order to help black people but then, through divine providence, came to realize that she was meant to work for poor people generally. The key moment comes just after the 21:00 mark when she talks about how helping the Spooners “made me see that it’s really about those who have versus those who don’t. You know, and they can be black, they can be white, they can be Hispanic.” And the crowd murmurs its assent. From there she segues into a historical narrative about racism being an artificial construct manufactured by wealthy interests to keep lower-class blacks and whites divided when in fact they should be working together. Exit question: How long before Vilsack gives her her job back?

Update: From the comments: “So she’s a Marxist not a racist. She belongs in the cabinet!”

Update: I meant to mention this earlier but forgot about it after getting sidetracked with something: There is an edit in the tape right around 21:00, as plain as day. It doesn’t look like a major one since it comes in the course of her telling her story about the farmer, but why is it there at all?

Update: Tapper answers my last question: “NAACP says the tape was changed at the 21:00 mark. no edits, just a tape change.” It is indeed almost exactly at the midway point of the video.

The best part of this thread will be reading the posts from people spinning this to show how brilliant it makes Breitbart look.

Unless he’s got something else on this woman or that event up his sleeve, I just don’t see how that’s possible. He messed up here and messed up bad.

That said, her story is still what it is, and it’s not pretty. Unfortunately, highlighter her words without context the way he did, completely overshadowed his own argument.

Esthier on July 20, 2010 at 9:04 PM

Tom_Shipley on July 20, 2010 at 8:53 PM

Well…Well…Well…look at tommy boy coming out of the woodwork like some self righteous liberal here to tell everybody how wrong they are.

Tom you have zero credibility on pretty much any political subject.

You have never been able to apply the same standards to you and your liberal leaders that you demand of others.

To come here with your faux selective outrage when you have been missing in action for all of the corruption, failure, and lies put out by your hero Obama and his administration is a complete joke.

You would be much more useful skimming some of the oil that your hero Obama let pour into the Gulf by the millions of gallons then you are here spouting your infantile drivel.

Now don’t you have some false racism charges to cook up like some of your liberal activist friends were trying to work out on their “journolist”.

Baxter Greene on July 20, 2010 at 9:04 PM

The only people who have egg on their face is the NAACP and the Obama’s underlings. Without knowing the facts the cops her superiors acted stupidly by firing her. Without knowing the whole context of the tape the calls of racism by the NAACP to the tea party was stupid.

You must be watching some OTHER video because the one I’m watching:
1) includes a women admitting she illegally discriminated against a person because of his race; and
2) includes many people in the NAACP audience who cheer and laugh and are enjoying this story of discrimination.

Religious_Zealot on July 20, 2010 at 9:03 PM

You’ve got to give the btards an A for balls for trying to convince the world the woman didn’t say what she said, or do what she did. And the crowd didn’t react the way it reacted. She’s a Saint.

What was cut out at the 21 minute mark when she’s starting to talk about seeing the lawyer she brought the black people to? Inquiring minds what to know.

Breitbart on Hannity arguing that the point is not what Sherrod was saying, but how the audience was reacting.

Uh huh.

YYZ on July 20, 2010 at 9:07 PM

I had this on the Beck thread but I am going to put it here.

Okay, I watched the video. Her problem is more with the haves and have nots. She encourages people to work together, the young to get an education and adults to consider their credit scores and to think about the differences in what the need instead of what they want. She takes the mandatory shot at the “last eight years” and has never seen the people hate as much as they do since Mr. Obama’s election and the healthcare debate. I think the lesson here is the knee jerk reactions of the Left, even at the expense of a loyal member of their own party. The NAACP had this information at their finger tips and I assume the government had records on most likely an exemplary employee but their perceived reputation was more important than Mrs. Sherrod. They could have made Mr. Breitbart look small but instead he is the person to release her vindication.

Captain Kirock on July 20, 2010 at 9:07 PM

Sherrod was working for a nonprofit BLACK farm coop at the time called New Communities. She was not employed by the government in any way. It Was a nonprofit designed to help Black farmers. and you had a white farmer seeking help from a black coop. Which could explain her comments about not initially using “full force” until it was obvious that the man wasn’t going to get help anywhere else.

TruUSA on July 20, 2010 at 9:09 PM

Yeah, other than the video PROVING Andrew Breitbarts point about Black racism in the NAACP, he got pwned… So who is saying the NAACP audience disapproved of her story where

What more context does there need to be?

Oh, Sherrod is a REPENTANT racist? OK, but how does that disprove what Breibart claimed – that the video showed racism?

And doesn’t the NAACP ascribe to a view that all white people are inherently racist and that there’s no such thing as an EX-racist?

Breitbart is no better than Media Matters or the other out of context hacks. Turns out her message was exactly opposite to the picture he tried to paint. Hope he is pround to see a woman lose her job.

Credibility is a funny thing – it takes a long time to build it, but only one incident like this to see it crash and burn.

Jim M. on July 20, 2010 at 9:14 PM

So now Breitbart will be the story tomorrow. So will MSNBC or CBS interview him? If so, he will once again speak of the lack of video re: the Black Congressman/racist slurs during the Obamacare debate. If you are someone who only hears news via glimpses of CNN in the beauty shop or airport, this may be the fisrt time you have ever heard this aspect of the story. We’ll see. No doubt the Old Media will try their best to label him as a racist , and he will be responsible for this fine woman losing her job.
Will anyone other than Fox ask why the White House had her fired so quickly?

Dear Tommy,

You really must see Breitbart’s take on the whole issue before spouting off any further.

Hint: You will have to swallow your liberal pride and watch the first ten minutes of tonights Hannity.

Pay special attention to what Breitbart reads from the piece of paper in his hand. It tells the whole story you’ve been looking for—-the REAL CONTEXT!

… So who is saying the NAACP audience disapproved of her story where

Jeff2161 on July 20, 2010 at 9:10 PM

That’s my take on this. She tells a story of an event that took place many years ago but uses language like that….today.
It’s like me telling a story today about a black person that I had an encounter with 20+ years ago and use the “N” every 30 seconds.

Electrongod on July 20, 2010 at 9:16 PM

The problem is that the organization of which she was a part, the Federation of Southern Cooperatives, is a Marxist raced-based organization which is seeking reparations for black farmers. I don’t know that it’s so much that she renounced racism, as it is that she fully embraced the class warfare of Marxism. We cannot move past racism as long as there are groups devoted to race-based activism.

Religious_Zealot on July 20, 2010 at 9:03 PM

She says she did enough, and then what she goes on to say is that a few months later he contacts her again to say that the referral wasn’t working. Then, she does what the lawyer wasn’t even doing and actually helps the man.

That’s a problem, but it’s not what the shorter video suggested it was. She even talks towards the end about how despite the fact that her father was murdered by whites who were never caught (even though there were three witnesses), that she’s tries to make sure she doesn’t discriminate and that specific experience taught her that.

She even says towards the end that she wishes that specific NAACP event room was also filled with white people.

She did something racist. That’s undeniable. But she also learned from it and grew as a person, or at least that’s what she’s saying in her speech. And in addition to that, if her speech is to be trusted, she also made right the wrong she did.

And as far as the comments in the audience were concerned, I’m starting to believe context is key there too. She started the speech talking about her murdered father. That was the set up to her talking about a white farmer who tried to act like he was superior to her even though he needed her help.

Those in the audience clearly understood her predicament, and that should trouble most people who don’t want to think that their skin color has anything to do with anything, but that same audience was also audibly appalled when she told them that white farmer was about to lose his farm because of his lawyer’s incompetence.

The context was important here, and if there’s nothing else on this woman or this event, this controversy has backfired.

Esthier on July 20, 2010 at 9:19 PM

So Sherrod is maybe a racist, possibly a marxist, but definitely an idiot. Black guy PBHO supports her firing, his administration has turned their backs on her, yet she blames conservatives and FOX News. Stupid.

Seems like Breitbart is in the NAACP’s and the White House’s OODA loop.

Breitbart posts the video, which even sounds like she is about to turn the story into one of redemption. (Breitbart was smart enough to manipulate the media and ACORN. I don’t think he’s so stupid as to have posted video like that except on purpose.)

Predictably, Vilsack knee-jerks into forcing her to resign, with Obama standing behind him, and the NAACP knee-jerks into denouncing her as racist.

His point may be that people like Obama and his allies have created such a poisonous atmosphere by calling everything racist that people who aren’t racist get crapped on.

One thing I find interesting is that the NAACP, and the Administration, was so sure that this was an example of racism that they didn’t even check before reacting.

Sherrod should be reinstated with a public apology. And then the NAACP needs to look at why it’s so sure that any accusation of racism within its ranks is valid.

Gosh, I haven’t seen so much concern exhibited since Danny Glover saw the wave coming down on top of him in the movie 2012.

This is pathetic.

Breitbart is garbage spun from gold. I said it before and I’ll say it again. He’s a purveyor of fake journalism. He is the antithesis to journalistic ethics.

Equally, Hot Air could use some introspection ala Megyn Kelly. The coverage here was shaky. The allowed comments were scary. The number of times “race war” was mentioned and allegiance was claimed against blacks was astounding. To watch HotAirheads sit back and accept it was sad.

So many who were up in arms over Breitbarts phony edits are now rationalizing and equivocating as to why their indifference to conservative-bigotry is somehow more noble that on the left.

Enjoy the silence describes what it’s like waiting for HA to wipe the egg or whatever that stuff is off and end the sloppy kiss with Andrew Breitbart.

Remember when MSNBC faked a tape? HotAirheads form like Voltron against them. 500+ comments and a pagefull of trackbacks and some real anger directed at MSNBC for their malpractice.

But Breitbart gets a buttrub and finger-sandwiches. Can Somebody explain this to me?

Go slow so that I might keep up. Thank you in advance kindest of all kind-geniuses.

She goes through what contempt she had for this man, and that he thought he was superior to her, so she sends him to one of his “kind.” She does the minimum for him. Months later she helps him and realizes it’s not about black or white it’s about the poor and how the rich exploit them. No agenda here. Others have shown what organizations she has been affiliated with. Frankly, her background was not one that belongs in a Government position. She is single mindedly against the “rich” and those she feel “owes” her something.

Exit question: How long before Vilsack the Tea Party gives her her job back Breitbart the boot with a no thank you for this kind of negative drama…?
AprilOrit on July 20, 2010 at 9:23 PM

So Breitbart is an official employee of the Tea Party Corporation, just as Sherrod worked for the government? No shiite? Huh, I wonder how a guy would apply for a job with the TP?

Bishop on July 20, 2010 at 9:27 PM

Keep changing the narrative to make HA, conservatives, Fox and Breitbart the bad guys.

Inanemergencydial on July 20, 2010 at 9:28 PM

Remember when MSNBC faked a tape?

How did Breitbart fake the tape? He said from the beginning
that it was not the full tape, and that he did not have the full tape.

NoStoppingUs on July 20, 2010 at 9:26 PM

Yeah, we get it…you’ve got a problem with the Tea Party…except, where has the Tea Party done anything wrong here? Well, other than be accused by the NAACP of being racist, I mean.

AUINSC on July 20, 2010 at 9:29 PM

I haven’t seen so many Trolls on one thread since before Obama started screwing up so badly and they all scattered to the winds. How y’all been doing?

NAACP says the tape was changed at the 21:00 mark. no edits, just a tape change.

ninjapirate on July 20, 2010 at 9:25 PM

I guess they didn’t put the camera on SLP mode.

The Race Card on July 20, 2010 at 9:25 PM

As usual race baiter….you have no idea what you are talking about.

If you had actually read the comments….many here have stated that Breibart acted irresponsibly and some have even stated she should get her job back….

…If you are looking for spin on ignoring fake journalism….lies….and purposeful deceit….look no further than most of the MSM and the liberals like you that support them.

We are nearing another election, time to come back ,sow dissent, ridicule, and dishearten.

Pathetic.

Inanemergencydial on July 20, 2010 at 9:30 PM

Hmmmm. It is getting to be like the Boy Who Cried Wolf.

Right, hundinger. How much credibility does the NAACP have on racial matters now that it’s been guilty of such a stupid “friendly fire” incident?

Same with the Obama Administration?

Doodad Pro on July 20, 2010 at 9:30 PM

lorien1973 on July 20, 2010 at 9:27 PM

it wasn’t – it was filmed in march.

The story she is telling – about the white farmer – happened 24 years ago.

Hoo boy, the concern trolls are coming out of the woodwork.

What next, a tearful “I’ve been a conservative all my life and even voted for Donald Raygen, but all conservatives should be ashamed this day”?

I will be interested in Mr. Breitbarts explanation, are you giving a pass to the NAACP and the administration?

But Breitbart gets a buttrub and finger-sandwiches. Can Somebody explain this to me?

Go slow so that I might keep up. Thank you in advance kindest of all kind-geniuses.

The Race Card on July 20, 2010 at 9:25 PM

I don’t need to go slow, Race, and while I agree that Breitbart messed up, you seem to be missing or rejecting what has been said about how he released everything he had, meaning he didn’t edit this, it was given to him.

Considering the way he handled the ACORN tapes, with full transcripts and full videos released, I’m inclined to believe him. You may feel differently, and that’s your choice.

Esthier on July 20, 2010 at 9:32 PM

Brietbart wins by turning the mirror on both the NAACP & Obambi
1) As far as Sherrod is concerned; Obama acted stupidly. He supported the move to get her resignation before hearing the rest of the story. Let alone give her recourse to due process. Does the MO sounds familar?

2) As for the NAACP; it paints a crowd just going with the flow of the speaker’s narrative; When the tone is ‘get whitey’, they are amused. When she shifts to the ‘redemption song’, like a choir, they echo the sentiment right back. The only conclusion to take from that is with the NAACP audience, priciples be damned, dance with the band.

Although The Anchoress called it spot on, it is hilarious to see the liberal dopes get taken by their own tactic – passing judgement while out of context. Think they will learn to be more circumpsect? I wouldn’t bet on it — like Obama, they’ll just double down and look for more things to take out of context.

Unless he’s got something else on this woman or that event up his sleeve, I just don’t see how that’s possible. He messed up here and messed up bad.

Is that right? Feel free to explain how exposing a racist in government is “messing up”. Do you really think this is the only time she pulled this racist stunt against a white farmer? If you do i got some great beach side property in Oklahoma to sell you.

Breitbart is going to be told to knock it off by The Tea Party.

Just watch….

AprilOrit on July 20, 2010 at 9:33 PM

Right from AB’s original post -

In the first video, Sherrod describes how she racially discriminates against a white farmer. She describes how she is torn over how much she will choose to help him. And, she admits that she doesn’t do everything she can for him, because he is white. Eventually, her basic humanity informs that this white man is poor and needs help. But she decides that he should get help from “one of his own kind”. She refers him to a white lawyer.

Sherrod’s racist tale is received by the NAACP audience with nodding approval and murmurs of recognition and agreement. Hardly the behavior of the group now holding itself up as the supreme judge of another groups’ racial tolerance.

Exactly what part of this is wrong?

The second video affirms the real reason there is tension between the Democratic Party and a growing mass of middle Americans — and it’s not because of race.

The NAACP which has transformed from a civil rights group to a propaganda arm of the Democratic Party and social-justice politics, supports a new America that relies less on individualism, entrepreneurialism and American grit, but instead giddily embraces, the un-American notion of unaccountability and government dependence. Shirley Sherrod, a federal appointee who oversees over a billion dollars of federal funds, nearly begs black men and women into taking government jobs at USDA — because they won’t get fired.

Same question.
