Video: NAACP posts full Sherrod video

posted at 8:30 pm on July 20, 2010 by Allahpundit

We wanted it and now we’ve got it. Forty-three minutes and 15 seconds. I haven’t had time to watch all of it — the full clip will be crowdsourced in the comments, I’m sure — but skip ahead to 16:30 for the segment about the white farmer and stick with it until at least 24:00 or so. She actually introduces the story by saying how she started working in order to help black people but then, through divine providence, came to realize that she was meant to work for poor people generally. The key moment comes just after the 21:00 mark when she talks about how helping the Spooners “made me see that it’s really about those who have versus those who don’t. You know, and they can be black, they can be white, they can be Hispanic.” And the crowd murmurs its assent. From there she segues into a historical narrative about racism being an artificial construct manufactured by wealthy interests to keep lower-class blacks and whites divided when in fact they should be working together. Exit question: How long before Vilsack gives her her job back?

Update: From the comments: “So she’s a Marxist not a racist. She belongs in the cabinet!”

Update: I meant to mention this earlier but forgot about it after getting sidetracked with something: There is an edit in the tape right around 21:00, as plain as day. It doesn’t look like a major one since it comes in the course of her telling her story about the farmer, but why is it there at all?

Update: Tapper answers my last question: “NAACP says the tape was changed at the 21:00 mark. no edits, just a tape change.” It is indeed almost exactly at the midway point of the video.

So she’s a Marxist not a racist. She belongs in the cabinet!

Ted Torgerson on July 20, 2010 at 8:32 PM

Bonus: The White House today said Obama personally stands by Vilsack’s decision to fire her.

That damn racist!

amerpundit on July 20, 2010 at 8:33 PM

Well I guess she is guilty of only blaming the wealthy. That’s a good liberal meme.

sandee on July 20, 2010 at 8:33 PM

Hah… why is breitbart protecting who gave this video to him? Likely they’re playing a joke on him… and if it was always about the crowd reaction why not make it that completely obvious up front?

ninjapirate on July 20, 2010 at 8:34 PM

Haha I guess its back to the “ignore it until we can’t” strategy for the WH when it comes to these types of things.

Joe Caps on July 20, 2010 at 8:34 PM

I think the person who was snookered was Breitbart. Unless he has something else, this seems open and shut.

Reparations have been going on at the USDA for a long time.

Quietly, under the radar.

rickyricardo on July 20, 2010 at 8:35 PM

From there she segues into a historical narrative about racism being an artificial construct manufactured by wealthy interests to keep lower-class blacks and whites divided when in fact they should be working together.

I agree those damn liberals always making racial hatrid to divide america to keep their elitism in office.

Its the left not the right who plays the race card.

William Amos on July 20, 2010 at 8:35 PM

The best part of this thread will be reading the posts from people spinning this to show how brilliant it makes Breitbart look.

Mark1971 on July 20, 2010 at 8:36 PM

Breitbart posted the video to show the NAACP’s racism.

Racism evidenced by the reaction of the audience, the NAACP.

Jason Coleman on July 20, 2010 at 8:36 PM

Seriously, Breitbart was completely irresponsible… this video could have been noteworthy if it had been handled correctly(focused hard on crowd reaction and her comment about layoffs), but it was not handled right….

Well, well … looks like she deserves her job back!

She’s just earned herself a political career – courtesy of Breitbart.

Breitbart is still my hero though and will ALWAYS be > than Allah! ;)

HondaV65 on July 20, 2010 at 8:37 PM

How does that exonerate her from her claiming the farmer was racist and from referring to the white lawyer as “one of their people”?

And if she truly had such a big a-ha moment, why:
- is she still a democrat?
- did she knee-jerkingly blame Fox News and the Tea Party?

Religious_Zealot on July 20, 2010 at 8:37 PM

I wonder if she takes a principled stand and refuses the reinstatement if offered…

Mark1971 on July 20, 2010 at 8:39 PM

Exit question: How long before Vilsack gives her her job back?

Tomorrow?

But the NAACP has damaged itself beyond hope here. Everybody knows why they threw her under the bus…to keep themselves ideologically pure, of course, so they can keep the race war alive.

And yeah, what she is really spouting is pure class warfare. Of course, that will be spun as much better than racism.

AUINSC on July 20, 2010 at 8:39 PM

Breitbart has egg on his face, there’s no other way to look at it. She should get her job back, and probably will by the end of the week.

changer1701 on July 20, 2010 at 8:39 PM

It was clear from the excerpt that Breitbart released that she was beginning to describe her “growth” from a black race conscious Leftist to a class warfare Leftist.

Breitbart will have troubling spinning this one.

vilebody on July 20, 2010 at 8:39 PM

BTW the NAACP keeps a video record of events from a dozen or more years ago ? hmm….

William Amos on July 20, 2010 at 8:39 PM

Hold up a min..she accused the GOP of being RACIST by opposing health care reform? If anything, that alone is outrageous!

For a completely different take on the firing. It had nothing to do with the tape.

patrick neid on July 20, 2010 at 8:40 PM

A lady that organized marches for equality in the 60s, was a racist in the 80s, and is a Marxist in the 00s.

Strange, being a multi-millionaire Marxist. She sued the USDA and received $13 million just last year.

Heh. Thread-winner, so far.

Harpazo on July 20, 2010 at 8:42 PM

So what exactly does Breibart have to apologize for?

He rightly claimed that the video was evidence of racist discrimination.

He rightly claimed the video showed racism in the NAACP (the people agreeing and cheering on that portion of the video).

Then the NAACP denounces her and she’s forced to resign by people who are now doubling back.

So in essence he’s shown twice the racism in the NAACP (and now also in the administration).

Religious_Zealot on July 20, 2010 at 8:42 PM

Hah… why is breitbart protecting who gave this video to him? Likely they’re playing a joke on him… and if it was always about the crowd reaction why not make it that completely obvious up front?

This guy is an idiot.

Tom_Shipley on July 20, 2010 at 8:43 PM

If Breitbart didn’t put out the short clip, we would never have seen the long clip. Breitbart didn’t do anything wrong. He posed a question, and the NAACP answered the question with more evidence.

The NAACP crowd reaction is the essence of the matter. The rest is incidental. Those who reverse the two are truly lost.

semloh on July 20, 2010 at 8:46 PM

What’s with all the Breitbart hate in the comments? As I understand it, he posted what he had. And he did it to show the NAACP has become a racist organization (and has been for years, since it became an arm of the Dem party). He’s right…and some of her comments were racist.

From there she segues into a historical narrative about racism being an artificial construct manufactured by wealthy interests to keep lower-class blacks and whites divided when in fact they should be working together.

Senator Jim Webb (D) made a similar statement in his book “Born Fighting” He argued that’s why Appalachia didn’t get to participate after the Civil War, in reconstruction, WASP vs GAELIC. Using race as class warfare to keep the two groups that had something in common apart. I have read this expressed before.

No way. Her own words are clear. She started off as a racist and ended up a Marxist.

She didn’t do all she could do in the beginning because of the color of his skin. She pawned him off to “one of his own” who turned out to be incompetent. At the 11th hour she intervened and realized she’s a Marxist. I guess she deserves a medal. The latest victim of racist America.

Bad on the Obama admin for firing her so quickly. It made it seem as if the racism charge was actually true. Now we know, it’s not, and the Anchoress deserves kudos for sussing this out yesterday and reminding us all to keep our powder dry until all the facts came in.

And, as much as I like him, shame on Breitbart for posting this without securing more context.

JeffWeimer on July 20, 2010 at 8:52 PM

this video could have been noteworthy if it had been handled correctly(focused hard on crowd reaction and her comment about layoffs), but it was not handled right….

That’s exactly how Breitbart presented it.

Gee, “hepcat”, you sure are so much more brilliant than Breitbart — now that you’ve seen video he wasn’t allowed to see until this very minute.

Crawford on July 20, 2010 at 8:53 PM

He posed a question, and the NAACP answered the question with more evidence.

He posed a question? Really? No. He posted this video of “proof” as racism at NAACP. He didn’t try and find out what the context was — even though it’s obvious there’s a lot of missing context that — as it turns out — completely changes the impression that a straight interpretation of the video leaves.

Breitbart always attacks the media for shoddy journalism then consistently commits the worst piece-of-sh*t journalism/hatchet jobs this century has scene. He’s a dishonest idiot.

Biggest irony of this whole thing? This is the first line of his original post:

Context is everything.

Tom_Shipley on July 20, 2010 at 8:53 PM

Reverse the colors and the parties, and this would be playing day and night as proof of institutional racism in the GOP and Tea Party.

HondaV65 on July 20, 2010 at 8:37 PM

I agree…..Breibart will take a hit on this one but this still does not diminish all the great work he has done bypassing the MSM and getting the truth out.

When Ed posted earlier that Briebart told him the 2 minute video was all he had…..I was concerned.

His MO is to throw some out…let the liberals thrash and make fools of themselves…then hit them with the rest….just like he did the ACORN videos.

He rushed this out and he will take a hit for it.

I made a rush to judgment also.

The false and unproven accusations of racism against the TEA Party have got a lot of people on the defensive including myself.

Breibart stated he had “videos”……we still could see more coming.

Hopefully they are researched better.

This does not exonerate the NAACP in any way what-so-ever.

Their support of Black separatist groups like the Panthers and Farrakahan is well documented.

Breibart posted a video and the NAACP made up it’s own mind…just like the White House…..

…..Thay can’t blame that on Breibart….that is 100% their responsibility.

Baxter Greene on July 20, 2010 at 8:53 PM

I saw an interview clip with her – she was driving and on a cell phone and the White House DEMANDED she pull over and resign then and there. I guess they wanted it on tape. And she make it sound like doing Glenn Beck was the straw that broke their back.

AUINSC on July 20, 2010 at 8:54 PM

Sorry, but her statement that “we have to work together” and that successful people should “reach back and help somebody,” doesn’t nullify her comments about sending a white farmer to “his own people,” (even if she thought better of it later, and which comment didn’t garner any boos or cringing from the audience), not wanting to help a white person solely because of his color, her belief that people who are against Obamacare are really against the “first black president”, and complaining that, in her job, she has been required to give money to “you know who” (which she later makes clear means white people).

hepcat on July 20, 2010 at 8:50 PM

Tell us again, then, what Breitbart claimed.

As I recall, he claimed “In this piece you will see video evidence of racism coming from a federal appointee”

As she admits that she discriminated against the farmer because of his race, his claim is validated.

And I’m still a bit worried about how she called the farmer racist (twice!) and talked about giving him a lawyer of his own “kind.”

One would think a redeemed and repentant ex-racist would clarify (or avoid) such language (such as “I thought at the time that he thought he was superior to me”).

Religious_Zealot on July 20, 2010 at 8:56 PM

It was cowardly to ask her to resign or fire her or whatever happened based on that evidence. But I won’t be outraged. I save that for the person who with malicious intent released this video as “proof” of racism at the NAACP with no attempt to provide context, contact Sherrod, etc…

If he were concerned with the truth, he would not have edited the video the way he did (i’m talking about the intro and ending) and claimed it was “proof” of racism. He was interested in smearing the NAACP, plain and simple. He was snookered. He knew what he was doing. Yeah, Breitbart; in the end zone… THE WRONG ONE!.

It DOES expose the basic shallowness of the current administration. Not interested in getting to the truth, the image was all that matters. And it also tells me that they are VERY invested in the narrative of the Tea Party being racist and anything that damages that narrative they will have squashed. (Good luck, in my case)

However, some of us were smart enough not even to run with this story at all until the full video was released.

Except the white farmer’s wife already admitted that her husband acted “superior” to Sherrod in this article: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/07/20/ex-ag-official-says-video-showing-white-farmer-story-excludes-key-context/

She said “That’s just his way”.

What else is really important that ppl STILL don’t know about this story was that Sherrod was working for a nonprofit BLACK farm coop at the time called New Communities. She was not employed by the government in any way. It Was a nonprofit designed to help Black farmers. and you had a white farmer seeking help from a black coop. Which could explain her comments about not initially using “full force” until it was obvious that the man wasn’t going to get help anywhere else.

I save that for the person who with malicious intent released this video as “proof” of racism at the NAACP with no attempt to provide context, contact Sherrod, etc…

You are pretty pissed about what media matters, et al does like, every day?

lorien1973 on July 20, 2010 at 9:00 PM

Remember when they released the full sermons from Rev. Wright, to provide context… and how it didn’t make any of it any better… I’m hoping this is like that.

El_Terrible on July 20, 2010 at 9:01 PM

BTW the NAACP keeps a video record of events from a dozen or more years ago ? hmm….

William Amos on July 20, 2010 at 8:39 PM

The video was from March of 2010

Exit question: How long before Vilsack gives her her job back?

Not only get her job back ASAP, but an apology from the WH and the NAACP for using her so shamelessly in what appears to me to be a deliberately planned hit job against a number of prominent people including Beck, the Tea Party, and probably Breitbart as well.

Yes, I do think this was deliberately planned. It all just fit in too neatly with the NAACP’s statement against the Tea Party accusing some of their members of racism. Magically a tape surfaces in perfect timing with that to show that the NAACP has members who are racist as well.

But the clue for Breitbart should have been that only a partial tape was released. That should have sent off warning bells right away. It’s obvious that someone wanted him and others to have a knee jerk reaction. Especially in light of Sherrod disclosing that she was warned by the WH caller that her story would be on Beck’s show yesterday. That they anticipated that should have been another huge clue that there was something fishy going on.

Beck had the smarts to recognize a setup when he saw it. Good for him for acting honorably, and turning the game back on those who were trying to discredit him and the Tea Party.

KendraWilder on July 20, 2010 at 9:02 PM

Brietbart screwed the pooch, but also the NAACP seems to have edited out another anecdote by her concerning the same incident, then cuts back to her summation – its not about race its class warfare yada yada. This is still not the full tape.

Hmmmm….

tommylotto on July 20, 2010 at 9:02 PM

Big Old Dog the lady is a racist. Plain and Simple yet the trolls continue.

CWforFreedom on July 20, 2010 at 9:02 PM

I don’t think Breitbart was snookered and provided exactly what he said he would …evidence of the NAACP crowd clapping in agreement with her shafting “whitey”… I don’t know who all these new poeple are who are criticizing Brietbart but what he has done various times in exposing the Hatefilled Left dangerous unAmerican agenda is invaluable… He’s just taking flack because he is over the target…he goes out and gets the stories, he doesn’t just write about stories someone else got…

CCRWM on July 20, 2010 at 9:02 PM

This would be something if Brietbart was implying that Sharrod were racist.

This is actually sad. The left loves this cause no one is talking about the Racist Holder, Black Panthers, and the Justice department.

And of course AP is playing right into it.

You must be watching some OTHER video because the one I’m watching:
1) includes a women admitting she illegally discriminated against a person because of his race; and
2) includes many people in the NAACP audience who cheer and laugh and are enjoying this story of discrimination.

Religious_Zealot on July 20, 2010 at 9:03 PM

Yeah, what is up with that… why is it edited at the 21 minute mark…

ninjapirate on July 20, 2010 at 8:59 PM

Don’t worry. I’m sure whatever they cut out makes her even more saintly.

He didn’t merely post this to his web site, he used it to go on a lengthly screed about how the NAACP is racist. He said it was “proof” that they are racist.

Tom_Shipley on July 20, 2010 at 9:00 PM

Ya, nothing about the way they reacted to that little story shows them to be racist. You know, before they heard how she had an epiphany at the 11th hour and became a Marxist instead of just a Racist. They just like how she didn’t “do the full force of what she could do” but just enough so when the old guy reported back he’d say she “helped him.” Helping him meant pawning him off on his own kind, an incompetent white lawyer.

TheBigOldDog on July 20, 2010 at 9:03 PM

So NAACP can find the speech in their archives AND release it in 24 hours — but they won’t release their smear job Tea Party resolution.

Mark30339 on July 20, 2010 at 9:03 PM

This tape has been edited around the 21 minute mark. When it comes back, everybody is chucking…
TheBigOldDog on July 20, 2010 at 8:46 PM

Huge gap. Interesting.
