USDA official resigns over Breitbart tape of NAACP speech
posted at 8:21 pm on July 19, 2010 by Allahpundit
The Agriculture Department announced Monday, shortly after FoxNews.com published its initial report on the video, that Sherrod had resigned.
“There is zero tolerance for discrimination at USDA, and I strongly condemn any act of discrimination against any person,” Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said in a written statement. “We have been working hard through the past 18 months to reverse the checkered civil rights history at the department and take the issue of fairness and equality very seriously.
Here’s Ed’s post on the vid in case you missed it this morning. It’s a great write-up, but The Anchoress adds an important wrinkle: Doesn’t it sound like Sherrod was building to a “but” before the clip cut out?
Doesn’t it seem like, after all of that sort of winking, “you and I know how they really are” racist crap wherein Sherrod–intentionally or not–indicts her own narrow focus, she was heading to a more edifying message? What did it open her eyes about? Was she about to say “I took him to one of his own, but it shouldn’t have mattered about that; my job was to serve all the farmers who needed help.”
Was she about to say, “I learned about myself and about how far we still have to go?”
Was she about to say “it’s not poor vs those who have, because we are not at war, we are just in the same human reality that ever was?”
Was she about to say, “poor is poor, hungry is hungry and the past is the past when a family can’t eat?”…
I want to see the rest of the tape. I cannot believe Sherrod ended on “I took him to one of his own.” Either she said something much worse after that (which we would have seen) or she said something much better.
I assume Breitbart’s edit is fair to the spirit of her remarks; if it isn’t, rest assured that Media Matters or whoever will produce the full tape of the event and demand to know why essential context was bowdlerized. And speaking of Breitbart, didn’t he claim to have “tapes” — plural — of racism at NAACP events? Perhaps that explains his latest Tweet, written half an hour before I’m posting this: “Hey @ericboehlert & the mostly male Caucasian @mmfa ‘senior fellows’: Get some rest. Tomorrow’s gonna be long day & first of many in a row.” Hmmmm.

Opps dang it I’m wrong on this.
It turns out Shirley Sherrod got her job as a result of a lawsuit (Pigford vs Vilsack) claiming racial discrimination on the part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture for the years 1981-85.
President Reagan abolished the USDA Office of Civil Rights when he became President in 1981.
Now on the “Ironic Scale” she got her job as a result of the Obama admin agreeing that because Reagan abolished the USDA Office of Civil Rights, therefore her Civil Rights were violated, has now been fired due to HER ACTUAL RACISM!
Now that’s Ironic!

They’re working on it. Pray something really bad doesn’t happen this summer. I think that the point of public Tea Parties and Town Halls was made last summer.
So much so, that the “racist” smear is being thrown with a vengeance for obama by his NAACP lackeys and Dem hacks.
And, for a little extra approval so that all the Leftists know that “this message has been brought to you by the White House”, michelle obama headlines at the NAACP the day before the racist denunciation and tells blacks to “increase the intensity”. What!!?? I really don’t like the sound of that in the context of their track record and their proven penchant for anti-American everything.
Anyway, I think we made our point in public last year, and imo, we should “go to ground” and just work like never before to get our candidates elected and to train and organize to try to quell the massive vote fraud heading our way.
No need to make ourselves targets in public this summer for agent provocatuers and violent instigators by repeating a tactic and point we already made very well last year.
Glenn Beck and the 9/12 rallies are a case in point. I don’t see why we have to use our energies to prove our numbers and that we are for real by putting ourselves in possible harms by yet another huge public rally, when our energies should now be focused like a laser on the mid-terms. Our numbers and reality should be proven this year at the ballot box, not in public parks.
What was good for the Tea Party in 2009 is not the same as what the Tea Party or 9/12ers should be doing in 2010.
That’s would be my strategery, no matter who wants to refudiate it.

Until somebody calls you “raghead.”
You two long days longing since past? When were things better? What year was the best year for race-relations in your shared mind?
Americans will always incorrectly generalize about all Republicans as racist because of a few are bigots, bigot-enablers and bigot-sympathizers. Unfortunately, the percentage of GOPpers giving in to base rhetoric and associations has increased right along with the mocking.
It’s weird. It’s as if many Americans have a stake in denying racism on behalf of people they don’t even know. It’s like saying there are no alcoholics in the tea party. How can one know that…especially if there are drunks passed out at every event?
Some conservatives feel slighted by victimhood to such a degree that they become hateful toward any person they perceive to wear the victim label they so despise. Some people are victims and Republicans are making it a habit of blowing those people off in order to spite those Dems who deal in victimology.

This whole story breaks my heart. Aside from the racism, a farmer in trouble went to her and she sent him away. I live on a family farm. My Dad is a farmer as were all my Grandpas before him. My husband’s Dad is a farmer as well as all his Grandpas before him. You start messing with farmers, you’re messing with my family.

I’m thinking Tea Party “plants” or a real wacko, will do some serious violence this summer at the big public rallies, which I think were done, appropriately, in 2009, and that we should be holed up and working feverishly for our candidates and gathering and training hundreds of thousands to poll watch, cause the voter fraud is gonna be awesome come November.
imho, we’re wasting our energy doing anything else this summer, and by going out into big public rallies, again, we needlessly expose ourselves to be set up by the Left, and/or physically damaged in our persons.
obama and wife have ratcheted this thing up, and it’s gonna blow. That’s their plan. I think we are beyond foolish to go along with it by making ourselves ducks in their barrel.
tigerlily on July 19, 2010 at 11:22 PM
The fact that she says “I took him to one of his own kind” is really appalling.
It shouldn’t be about black or white. We are Americans and we have to take care of each other and be accountable to one another.
It’s like this: When I see black service members and white service members, I don’t think of them as distinct or seperate, I see them as heroes.

The fact that you even have to consider Breitbart’s editing as race-baited tells a lot. Dude was my favorite neo-journalist. Then he went all Hollywood. He rails against them but he’s living the same life. IMNSHO.
@anybody
The official was getting to something. She had a lib-epiphany. She supplanted race for class and is now sanctified. She realized that there’s no future in race-war (despite Hotairhead speculation). It’s all about class.
Incidentally, what she said gives a very good example of how racism can affect one’s life. Do you think she is more or less racist than the people that your parents grew up with….generally? Do you think this is an example racism at its worst in this country?
Republicans would be taken seriously if this was not the first case of redlining they spoke out against.
Really? Who, specifically is working on creating anti-white racial violence in this country? Do you run and hide whenever you see a black face?
Amazing. What kind of person makes that allegation ? Again, you believe that “they’re working on it” referring to the terrible violence suffered by many South African farmers.
Ah canopfor. Than you for another HotAir special , inflammatory alluding to violence — and Africa! Of course, nobody will say anything save for the few supportive comment-high-fives. I used to think that challenging a thread full of good-Americans to stand up against this crap would work.

The Race Card on July 19, 2010 at 11:30 PM
It is really great that all of this nonsense is being exposed. The silver lining of the Obama Presidency is that the race card is totally played out. Real racism is being exposed and that is a good thing. With technology today everything is going to be brought out into the sunshine. Maybe we will actually start electing statesmen and women and get our act together as a result of seeing just how corrupt things have become. Maybe seeing this sort of thing will unite us people who want to simply be Americans and decent human beings rather than playing identity politics.

Quite the opposite. Shirley won a class-action lawsuit and was hired into the organization she fought. She was at an awards dinner to recognize her accomplishments. And yet. And yet she had to gloat about grinding her government heel down on a hapless white farmer who had no idea about his role as a sacrificial goat for the racial sins of others. Shirley gloated about her not-so-petty act of bigoted revenge against a stranger on camera.
Race Card, can you see the Shakespearean tragic element to this story?

They’re working on it. Pray something really bad doesn’t happen this summer.
Have you been on Mars, or do you just refuse to hear what obama, holder, the NBPP, the NAACP, the Leftist blogs, Leftist Congressional “leaders”, Leftist Hollywood, Leftist Administration appointees, and the Leftist MSM have been saying about conservatives since obama was elected?
Also, your childish comment about running and hiding from a black face is really funny. How do you know I’m not black, or married to a black man or have black relatives? You don’t, little boy.
As well, you seem to have appointed yourself the All-Seeing-All-Knowing Judge of all things related to race. What qualifies you for this God-like status that requires that you the read motives, hearts and minds in every post as you expertly ferret out hidden and obvious racism is beyond my limited powers of comprehending. Why, if you could bottle it, you’d be such a wealthy dude!
And what kind of a person would even think of elevating themselves to this kind of exalted position? I think it is VERY weird, to say the least.
No, I’m referring to the race baiting that could very well lead to violence, that is the point, not whether it will be identical to South African violence. If I didn’t make that clear then, I’m doing so now.
And if you think you are dealing with a “president” who is above inciting violence, then you just ain’t thinking.
obama not only incites violence, but through specific legislation, he has personlly visited violence on countless innocent unborn, focusing like a laser to make sure that babies get aborted in unlimited numbers and that those babies who somehow survive abortion will NOT receive medical attention and will be left to die. Research his singular role in this as an Illinois State Senator.
Specific to this post, he has taken the most vulnerable wound he could find, race relations, and is personally, and through his hack proxies, continually clawing at it until something gives.
And, just for your education, I suggest you take a look (that means some in depth research) at what U.S. Senator Obama did in Kenya when he campaigned with his cousin, Raila Odinga. Odinga was a “Christian”, is a communist and turned muslim quisling for votes. Obama campaigned all over Kenya with him, against the sitting and U.S. State Department approved Kenyan President and government.
When Odinga lost, he incited his tribe to murder 3,000; burning many Christians to death inside their churches. Odinga kept killing until he was elevated to share power with the President who won re-election.
Andrew McCarthy, at National Review Online has recently written a great article outlining and describing obama’s near, if not actual, criminal behaviour during his African campaigning for his murderous commie cousin.
I judge people by the company they keep. The company obama keeps – domestic terrorists, reverending racists, and marxist and radical muslim promoters don’t engender thoughts of a peaceful or even sane “president”.
As I have just described above, canopfor is closer to the truth when he links obama and and African violence than your ability to educate yourself or even be aware of obama’s little extra-curricular African family actitivies.
As far as using the example of a liberal as a sharp object (are you patting yourself on the back, here?), all I have to say is, oh, yeah, right, you’re so right, just so smart, so deep, so intellectual, so very, very, right.
tigerlily on July 20, 2010 at 12:36 AM
>>Don’t handle sharp objects, especially liberals.
The Race Card on July 19, 2010 at 11:30 PM<<
I thought I had found a sharp liberal once, but I was mistaken…turns out she was just like so many others, that most of her 'points' were copied, not original and organic; and since the basis for her points was emotion rather than truth, the strength of her points, and therefore her sharpness, crumbled under the pressure of reality.
A word of advice, Race Card: reverse your grip on the knife. You'll find that you've been trying to cut with the handle instead of the blade. The purpose for the dull edge is for holding the knife safely, and the purpose for the sharp edge is not to test the sharpness with your fingers but to use as a humble tool to accomplish honest work.
(I've never met a liberal more interested in accomplishing an honest day's work than in impressing someone with their supposed acuity.)

If I’m remembering correctly, it’s been a few hours and I was driving home at the time, but I think he said he would have to put his $100,000.00 away for another project. I’ve seen no evidence yet of racism in the tea parties. I’ve seen lots of evidence of leftists smearing their political opponents with the “racist” label with — surprise, surprise — a complete lack of evidence.
It seems rather obvious that the asserted-but-never-demonstrated racism is far more likely to be the usual name-calling by the left.
Oh, and I clearly remember the Congressional Black Caucus claiming they were called the n-word by the tea parties, but having no proof of it, while there is plenty of video of the event with no evidence of racism.
Then there was the completely fraudulent video claiming to show evidence of racism at tea parties, but taken apart by Stephen Glass.
Let’s face it: all too often, charges of racism from the left are the equivalent of saying, The Republicans are trying to cut your medical care and throw you out on the street. Just another attempt at demagoguery.

Not wanting people you don’t personally know to be accused without valid evidence and verbally lynched. That sure is weird. Well, maybe for you.
The NAACP and CBC smearers are not saying there are some tea party members who say racist things at home while they are taking a bath. They are saying that they say them at tea parties.
There may be evidence of that, although I doubt it, but I have seen no evidence of this racism of yours presented.
A word of advise. Stop being so lame. I am becoming embarrassed for you.

Uh . . . she said something much worse I will warrant. On an organizational level like Acorn.
At least Mel Gibson is not on an organizational level in whatever rant he actually ranted.
The NAACP is a dinosaur and should already be extinct. Or is it the NAACP/BP (Black Panthers)? Not that I notice a wide range of ethnicities attending its meetings (as seen in videos I will admit).
I don`t care what color individuals are as long as they act right. It is a simple code to live by. I don`t care what color someone is at all.
Obama is the first “black” president. But I recall his mother was white . . . . Let`s be honest in liberal terms (cuz I really don`t care) but Obama is the first black and white president or white and black president or president of mixed ethnicity. Again, I don`t care a whit about it, but the libs do.
Too bad his policies are all gray and “emerging” . . . .And too bad he is simply a rotten president.
My son is half Asian for what that matters. And I was brought up to NOT be racist, moreover. It`s the liberals always talking about someone`s color. And its the liberals who tend to be racist. Give me a break already!

I had a feeling there was a *but* and thought it was a *but I learned that we can’t discriminate*… or something. I was hoping, anyway.
That said, it doesn’t change the fact that she gave substandard service to a white guy because she acted *racistly*.

Can we talk, not just about Ms. Sherrod, but also her audience, the NAACP, which if anything giggled and tittered as she announced her racist actions?
Will the NAACP denounce the racist elements in the NAACP?

Sidenote: If racism is about abuse of power, why did the NAACP condemn members of the tea party of being racist? How much power can a handful of loons at a tea party rally have? Seems to me the NAACP has more power than the few racists who try to infiltrate the TP rallies.

The agreeing That’s rights, were far from quiet.

**breaking**
The DAily Caller has published excerpts from the JournoList archive strongly suggesting a concerted coverup of Rev Wright story from 2008. He names names, names papers, reports that someone calls Juan Williams the “new black friend” of Fred Barnes of TWS.

This is how racial hate speech is often critiqued in our media. We always assume that the speaker vindicated themselves with some statement that is not on the video and blame the person making the tape for making propaganda.
Sheesh.

It is so on. The Daily Caller AND Andrew Breitbart have launched a JDAM assault on the MSM. Pop the popcorn and fill the beer fridge friends, it is going to be a wild ride today.

But is she destroying every institution in the country while cloaking it in a neo-fascist pan-African vibe?

Know what’s funny (peculiar)? Madam Sherrod made the comment twice that the white guy “thought he was superior” to her.
Guess she showed him . . .

isolated? of course it is. Especially when journolists get together and isolate it, like the REV Wright story.
