Quotes of the day
posted at 10:20 pm on July 16, 2010 by Allahpundit
He wanted to know what the baroness and others thought about Sarah Palin and her ability to command attention. There’s a women’s explosion happening, he said, but it’s not happening in the progressive sphere. Why is all the energy among women on the right, the cohort Palin dubs “Mama Grizzlies”? Surely progressive women love their children and their way of life and the Constitution every bit as much as the self-appointed Mama Grizzlies. Goudie ducked the question, but as the breakfast concluded and she was bidding farewell to her guests, she confided to me, “The Mama Grizzlies are winning.”…
The women candidates she considers Mama Grizzlies would have been out there anyway; I don’t think she inspired them to run. But she’s given definition to a movement that would otherwise be just a bunch of kooks, or one-offs. She’s fenced off a wing of the GOP that she owns, and in politics, when it’s your turn to ride the rocket, that’s what you do. A Republican source says Palin is nothing new, she’s really Pat Buchanan in drag—the same issues except that her reality show is a lot more gripping. The media went overboard for Buchanan in 1996 when he won the New Hampshire primary, defeating establishment favorite Bob Dole. But the insurgent campaign of a former Nixon speechwriter can’t compare with the ongoing soap opera of the Palins. Bristol and Levi together again!
When I ran the Palin-as-Buchanan theory past another Republican, a woman this time, she said that was an insult to Buchanan, who is deeply serious and has thought about these issues. She doesn’t agree with his conclusions, but he rode the rocket at a moment in time, just as Palin is poised to do. This friend does corporate focus groups that have nothing to do with politics, and at the end she likes to ask what the participants think of various people in the news: “When you mention her name, they all smile, even if what comes out of their mouth is that she’s terrible.”
***
We already know of the rank and obscene sexism rife in the Democrat Party. Men in the Republican Party were supposed to be more decent, have more character, and be more understanding of the diversity and strength of the American people. So here’s a suggestion to you more decent, more Godly, more in-touch Republican Elitists, contemplating the gutter from which to smear Palin, or Haley or any other conservative woman–instead of working out your issues about women while campaigning or in public office, work them out in a psychiatrist’s office and let the women who are striving to right this nation get to work…
Newsflash: the game has changed. We know the old rules and Romney and every other Republican who fancies himself ‘presidential’ will be held responsible for what his proxies say and do. If you’re not sure, Mittens, how to handle an influential political woman, first you can stop with the pandering and proceed with genuine respect. You and your proxies attack her on the issues, not personally. It’s that simple.
And one other piece of advice Mittens and Anonymous Numbskull Team: Grow Up. You have seriously misjudged how to deal with The Girl in the Room.

From Sarah Palin’s RNC VP acceptance speech in Minneapolis, MN. 2008:
Sarah Louise Palin …. kicking Obama’s skinny ass since DAY ONE!

Tammy is a reformed lefty. Like David Horowitz. Just like Horowitz, she is on a crusade to take the left down now.
She’s really hard core. Loves Sarah. Conservatives 4 Palin had a big get together in San Diego last weekend. I didn’t get to go, but it’s Stacy Drake’s hometown.
Tammy was there and spoke to the sizable crowd that night. Stacy wrote a recap and we have audio of her speech:

The responding via “anonymous staffer” was Sarah’s way of showing how little respect she has for Romney’s antics. It was a masterful slap to the face. Everyone even remotely familiar with Palin’s group knows there is only a couple of “staffers” out there.
Tammy Bruce is a free agent. She’s pissed off and reacting on her own, like a lot of us are.
What was pathetic was Willard responding by Teh Twitters.

It is clear you believe you are profound and insightful. Thanks ever so for gracing this site with your presences and condescending commentary. I’m sure everyone here is awed.
Incidentally, the fact that Mrs. Palin should not be referred to as “Governor” has nothing to do with her longevity in that position, or even how she left it. Former governors do not retain their titles after they leave office.
DrMagnolias on July 17, 2010 at 4:26 AM
Why is it when children of other politicians get mocked everybody stands up to denounce it – but if it is Sarah’s family hey what the hell go for it!
I’m sure one coke sniffing daughter of the executive branch appreciates the MSM willingness to overlook the troubles of the children of the elite while mocking and persecuting the Palin children.
Mr Purple on July 17, 2010 at 5:42 AM
Without the F word: Why must everything be sexist/racist/victim class grievance anytime someone challenges you? I thought conservatives were above identity politics? Stop acting like leftists with your strawman projections and realize that people can be non-orgasmic about Palin — and, gasp — not be a sexist. Saying so does you no favors.

Beyond being Republicans who have media jobs, there’s nothing in common between Palin and Buchanan philosophies.
Buchanan is reviled for being a turn coat on his own principles. Though he most certainly is scholarly, he’s become a sell out opportunist like Newt in that regard. And of late, his conservative opponents claim that he’s antisemitic.
Palin is too fresh on the scene to be compared with the old fart Buchanan. But politics do corrupt, so watch in time.
Recognize that alliances must be made for success in war. And alliances require compromise.
maverick muse on July 17, 2010 at 6:49 AM
The problem is, it’s equally possible for the “Republican source” to be a Romney staffer, Mike Huckabee, or George Bush.
Lehosh on July 17, 2010 at 6:56 AM
Right….. and when people on the right join the leftist attacks on Palin it is OK to use those tactics?
The media and this ‘adviser’ to Mittens absolutely are using derogatory sexist comments to portray Sarah. They call her an airhead, they repeat Tina Fey’s ‘I can see Alaska from my house’ line and attribute it to Sarah. If you did this in the workplace you would have a serious ‘sexism in the workplace’ instruction almost instantly.
Certain lines of attack are traditionally off limits – but those limits are lifted for Sarah and her family.
HotAir actively quashed any discussion about a certain incident involving the daughter of a WH politician. Can’t talk about it. Didn’t happen. Politicians kids are off limits.
…unless it’s Sarah’s kids.
The media bent over backwards to allow (encourage?) an immature scared young man to take out his anger over a break up with a HS sweetheart simply to smear Sarah Palin and her family. Would they do that to an ex of Chelsea’s? If they did would the media and public in general allow it to continue or speak out in disgust?
I call ‘em like I see ‘em – and I don’t see a lot of reasonable opposition to Palin on policy or any matter of substance. It’s mostly sexist comments.

They absolutely want to diminish her in any way they can by comparison or otherwise. They are “Scared” she is their Kryptonite and they know it….Palin is the Anti Socialist.

I like the way that you think – but your actually missing one more GOP pick up in 2014, Warner in VA. He only won because he ran on his semi-moderate, semi-fiscally responsible creds from his years as Governor, it was an Obama ticket year, and the GOP candidate was about as exciting as a wet noodle. This will not be the case in 2014 the GOP in VA made a HUGE comeback in 2009 and our current Governor and the GOP golden boy Bob McDonnell will be sitting pretty to take out Warner if the road to the White House is filled with a Repubican already (ie we win in 2012).

The msm has already declared they would destroy Sarah if she decides to run again. Expect this Levi/Bristol thing to become the first shot in the destruction. However she handles this situation, it will be mocked. It may even turn out to be a sham on Levi’s part, having been paid for attempting the reunion.
Kissmygrits on July 17, 2010 at 9:27 AM
Even after 18 months in the job, Obama still has no presidential experience. If anyone disagrees, please cite any of his actions that were “presidential”.
Extrafishy on July 17, 2010 at 10:01 AM
Sure, progressive women love the children they didn’t abort. The ones they aborted…well, it just wasn’t the “right time”, you understand.
Progressive women love their “way of life”–especially when they embrace ‘diversity’ and proclaim moral superiority because of it. Juanita, neighbor, is awfully nice–therefore, all Hispanic people are wonderful and deserve to come into America at will, “documented” or “undocumented”. Because all Hispanic people must be exactly like Juanita, the one Hispanic they know (they even buy her a Christmas gift! Isn’t that generous of them?!)
Progressive women love the Constitution like Sonia and Elena love the Constitution. As long as they can make it live and breathe, they love it very much indeed.

Im a recovering Dem and I love Sarah. I have a Nikki Haley sign in my yard (and Im in AZ, lol) I have donated to Sharron Angle and Michele Bachmann too. DLC type mod Dems embrace real deal people like Sarah, Nikki, Michelle and soon Sharron. It is the ‘new’ coalition of what Donna Brazile and Paul Begala called ‘eggheads, AAs and elites’ that formed Obamas coalition that dont like the women of the right (or I would argue the women on the left/middle, witness how they tore Hillary apart in our primaries).
Dont believe the hype.
Romney/Palin ’12 / Hillary ’16 / Sarah ’20

Brown is the vote against the Schumer DISCLOSE or DECEIVE or whatever they are calling the campaign finance bill.
He is also the vote against cap and trade.
he also got MASS mutual funds exempted from the FINREG for 3% andf he killed the 16b bank tax
IMO the GOP leadership gave him the go ahead for the vote to get it off the pages, it was being used to bash GOP on the trail as blocking wall st reform which does not help in this economic environment.
I hope folks dont sigh and sit on their hands like they did when Mccain got the nom, that is how we got here.
GOP IMO needs to FIGHT for the LONG HAUL. Dont get disappointed and drop off please, please! no one is going to be the perfect candidate. Reagan did amnesty, Reagan was HATED by the GOP when he came in.
lets pull together to block the Obamanomics and keeo our fightd to the primaries pls can we?
This is where Dems IMO do better, we were used to losing for many years, we keep fighting anyway. The GOP needs to stick together when we need to. Hell I am a Dem and I am donating to folks who do NOT agree with me on MANY issues b/c I recognize the need to put the overall economic condition of the country AHEAD of my personal feelings.
please? I know you wanna…I know you love the country….do it for America!

Here’s another fun fact: Former presidents revert to their previous titles when they leave office (e.g., General Eisenhower) until they die, when they are again referred to as President. Of course, no one seems to pay attention to this, and Bill Clinton is forever called “President Clinton” or, worse, “Mr. President.” Strangely, Senators retain the title of Senator forever.
DrMagnolias on July 17, 2010 at 11:22 AM

Cindy Munford on July 17, 2010 at 12:15 PM
I, too, contributed to Scott Brown. Remember, there was no real conservative in that race, and it was well worth it to view the Dems’ discomfiture at the “Kennedy seat” going to a Republican, even if a wrong-headed one.
disa on July 17, 2010 at 12:15 PM
Perhaps you didn’t contribute to Scott Brown so much as to Martha Coakley’s opponent. He’s a Massachusetts Republican, which is still better than a Massachusetts Democrat. And, if the GOP retakes Congress in 2010, the number of R’s will make a difference in committees and leadership, so even those loathsome RINOs will serve a purpose.

OF COURSE they do! So do mayors, Senators, and so on.
Hell, my Congressman, a former Judge, is still “Judge Carter.”
We still refer to Rudy as “Mr Mayor” (or America’s Mayor)
It’s quite customary for those in elected office to retain the title of the last position held. Same goes for ex-presidents. We still call Bill Clinton “President Clinton” and he was impeached.
I know it pisses you people off to hear folks call Sarah “Governor Palin.” Don’t fret about it, come January of 2013 you can stop having to call her that, and start calling her President Palin.
gary4205 on July 17, 2010 at 2:28 PM

TheBlueSite on July 17, 2010 at 6:54 PM
Yeah, only the Left is allowed to have any cards to play.
Cindy Munford on July 17, 2010 at 6:57 PM
So an “unnamed Romnney advisor” says Palin isn’t a serious person, which, if you’re to believe the polls, is what most Americans think about her, that’s sexism? I think Palin isn’t a serious person by seeing her quit her job halfway through to become a millionaire “speaker.” Does that make ME sexist?
I think Obama is a radical and a massive failure because he holds to ideas that have been tested throughout history and have failed time and time again. Does that make me racist?
I think Tammy Bruce usually tends to be a laughing stock. Does that make me a homophobe?
TheBlueSite on July 17, 2010 at 7:19 PM
I would never call you a homophobe, I don’t know you. But I think it is safe to say that both Sarah Palin and Secretary Clinton were treated with quite a bit of sexism by the good old boys. Not to mention Rep. Haley. It’s just another gutless tactic. Mrs. Palin may not meet your bench mark for a serious person but then I guess it’s safe to say you voted for that catastrophe now gracing the White House.

TheBlueSite on July 17, 2010 at 11:19 PM
From now on, we’re going to see a lot of creativity and inventiveness in the media to find clever new ways to imply Palin is stupid.
Time and anonymous Romney staffers gave us, “not a serious human being”
Newsweek and Eleanor Clift gave us, “intellectually undisciplined” — anyone know what that even means? Of course, then she degenerates to the not-exactly-original “quitter.”
There Goes The Neighborhood on July 18, 2010 at 1:15 AM
