More great news: Bristol Palin, Levi Johnston reportedly shopping reality show

posted at 4:50 pm on July 16, 2010 by Allahpundit

First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes … a Gosselin-esque bit of child exploitation? Granted, it’s TMZ that’s reporting it, but this isn’t the only data out there pointing towards a show of some kind. Ricky Hollywood’s lawyer was conspicuously noncommittal when asked about it by the NYT, saying ominously, “I can’t talk about that until the end of the week.”

What could go wrong?

Levi Johnston and Bristol Palin are already looking to bring outsiders into their upcoming marriage — in the form of a reality TV crew … this according to a source very familiar with the negotiations.

TMZ has learned the couple has been shopping “multiple reality shows” around town — some of the ideas involve the couple AND their two-year-old son, Tripp.

We’re told the leading concept involves all three people — and will focus on “parenting issues.”

I’ll give you three possibilities. One: Palin’s gone mad and has secretly blessed this freak show on the assumption that the buzz will somehow help her politically. Verdict: Doubtful. Two: Palin hates the idea but fears that Levi really might air some of her dirty laundry, in which case having him back inside the tent and essentially gagged by the promise of a weekly TV paycheck isn’t the worst outcome in the world. Verdict: Possible. Three: Bristol’s gone rogue and is doing this utterly against the wishes of her mother, who’s tearing her hair out at the thought of being followed around by the odor of reality-show trashiness. From a distance it’s hard to believe that Bristol would be quite that rebellious, but her ex-boyfriend seems to think it’s in character for her. Verdict: Plausible!

Exit question: Who’s the jackass that gave Levi the idea for this thing? Oh — right.

Newt as our nominee in 2012.

Message to Bristol………….

……YOU ARE NOTHING WITHOUT SARAH PALIN.

…..and they may know that, and want to bring her down.

….BRISTOL you have chosen the life of a FOOL.

PappyD61 on July 16, 2010 at 6:03 PM

Actually, this is another way that Palin’s like Reagan — embarrassing children.

Patti Davis spent all her time at nuclear freeze rallies and sleeping with rock stars. Ron Reagan Jr. dropped out of Yale to be a dancer.

tigerinexile on July 16, 2010 at 5:51 PM

I’ve seen some convoluted logic to make people see Palin as the next Reagan but this one deserves a special prize for pretzel logic.

Just having fun.

Seriously, politicians have idiot relatives. Roger Clinton. Billy Carter. Patti Davis. Ron Reagan Jr. I think Ford and Nixon had fairly normal families who kept quiet. LBJ, no idea. JFK — well, Teddy or the old man. Ike — hey, Ike was clean.

What do you think of Newt as our nominee?

TimeTraveler on July 16, 2010 at 6:06 PM

Who knows…this might actually help Sarah Palin. Remember this is a society that still mostly thinks that Bill Clinton was a great president and many still watch Jerry Springer and Howard Stern-and many of them vote. Maybe the sleaze factor and modern American cynicism will for once actually work for the GOP.

Dr. ZhivBlago on July 16, 2010 at 5:55 PM

Perhaps. Frankly, I’m not interested in their families and shenanigans. Am I alone in my thinking? Maybe so.

I couldn’t care less about their families or problems. I want serious politicians with a sense of obligation and duty to step in and correct the problems we face. I’m not interested in being entertained. The Clintons were the beginning of my disgust with personal predilections…. both of them. And they invited the scrutiny, the fools.

Are we a serious nation or not? Are we going to face our problems or not? Who will do that? And who will we elect? Technicians or entertainers?

I know who I will work for and vote for, and it won’t be those in the public eye with all sorts of family distractions that divert attention from the serious work that must be done.

No more circus acts.

By the way folks, stop making fools of yourself by daring to compare Palin and Reagan. When conservatives start going so nuts they’re comparing a half of one term governor who quit her job to get rich to Ronald Reagan, who actually KNEW his stuff, you know the world has gone mad.

Reagan spent years (and years!) in politics, studying the big issues, getting his philosophy down before ever hinting at any sort of run for president. Palin got the nod from McCain because he thought she’d appeal to women- he wanted to peel off some of Hilary’s voters. And 2 yrs later we’re talking about President Palin?? It’s mad!

Damn!!!!

FireBlogger on July 16, 2010 at 6:22 PM

Verdict: Plausible!

I’m sorry, AP, but I don’t think it is plausible.
The glitzy, allegedly “glam” world of Hollywood and PR is what got Levi into trouble in the first place.
If he’s so dumb or desperate to start out his new married life with his son and wife by making the same mistake, it’s going to be rough and the marriage is probably doomed.

I’m going to pray that this reality show rumor is just that–a rumor.

Jenfidel on July 16, 2010 at 6:22 PM

Look, if you thought Palin was good before, she’s still the same now.

If you thought she was a joke before, she’s still the same now.

Idiot relatives are just that — idiot relatives. Many a politician has had them, and many more will have them in the future. It’d be nice if our media didn’t give them gobs of money for reality shows, but apparently someone watches these things.

tigerinexile on July 16, 2010 at 6:24 PM

Allah never lets one down, does he?

The word on the street is absolutely NO ONE wants anything to do with this show.

This is all Rex Butler, Levi’s attorney, and democrat party handler, talking noise. Someone MAY bite, but so far they haven’t.

And for all you trolls …. no, this will have no effect on Sarah’s political career. If she runs for POTUS, she still wins.

Sorry to disappoint.

In a primary, don’t know. I like Sarah. We’ll see how she does, and if she’s running.

tigerinexile on July 16, 2010 at 6:26 PM

The “Nation” elected Obama.. need I say more?

upinak on July 16, 2010 at 6:08 PM

They did.

We both like Palin and understand what we’re facing, so I’m not going to suger-coat this. It isn’t good for many reasons.

It isn’t a game of those who have kids as opposed to those who don’t. It’s high stake politics.

The message this little episode sends to people works on many levels. The SCM will have a field day with it, but let’s leave them out of the picture. If Sarah let’s this go… if it comes to pass… the message is that celebrity is important to her family. It’s callous and cheap when people need jobs, when the nation is suffering. It detracts from Sarah’s message.

Like it or not, the kids reflect on the parents. And Sarah isn’t the Teflon candidate. Everything that happens to her good or bad sticks. Even if it’s good, it’s spun as bad.

I don’t know if she wants to run for POTUS. I do know that I want her in some high office. I want her somewhere.

But this is cheap and nasty. She doesn’t need it and needs to find some way to deal with it – if possible.

Upinak, we’re on the same team, but seriously, this reflects badly.

4: Bristol is a hell-spawn who thinks nothing of marrying the man who trashed her mother for over a year, who posed nude in Playgirl, and who engaged in God only knows what kind of depraved sodomies with that skank he was hanging around with. A certainty.

Putting aside the political ramifications for the moment, consider this, just imagine Todd walking down the aisle to give his daughter away to Levi, to become Bristol Johnston. Wouldn’t you like to be that dad?

Godzilla on July 16, 2010 at 6:29 PM

Painful for Palin, I’m sure. How do you publicly distance yourself from your daughter (and, erhm, future son-in-law) but not do so privately?

Bradky on July 16, 2010 at 5:09 PM

Actually no. While I admit that all this Bristol/Levi BS is ugly cr*p and a major distraction, it is Levi and Bristol’s conduct that is at fault – not her parents.

I figure if Palin can deal with this there is nothing she can’t handle. As a mother I feel badly for Palin – it has to be heartbreaking to have a child who is either so dense, so angry at you or such a poor judge of character. But Palin isn’t the first and won’t be the last parent whose kid lost their way and embarrassed them byt doing stupid things. How she deals with this will be telling.

Personally I’d make sure Bristol & Levi realize if they’re successful in derailing any political plans Palin has that they experienced ALL the consequences of their behavior. If Palin ceases to be a political force the world will lose interest in Levi and Bristol so quickly they won’t know what hit them.

Sarah should cut Bristol and Levi a nice check for a couple of million as a “wedding present” in return for NOT doing a reality show.

jonezee on July 16, 2010 at 6:38 PM

Sarah Palin, as much as I like her, isn’t going to be the GOP’s candidate in 2012. She’s too much of a celebrity and we know how well that’s worked out for America with Obama. By the time 2012 comes around people will want someone with experience, not someone who hasn’t been a governor for four years and especially not someone who can’t control her children. America is not going elect Palin with the drama that surrounds her. Can you imagine the media frenzy every time Bristol decided to stick it to her mother? And that’s what this is.

Bristol doesn’t care about or respect her mother. If she did she wouldn’t do something so ridiculous and hurtful that she knows will only harm her mother. There are childhood indiscretions, which most parents struggle with. Bristol had her moment, and Sarah stuck by her better than most would.

This, on the other hand, is a willful infliction of cruelty directed at her mother. What kind of daughter would announce her engagement to her mother’s enemy (the media) first? I’m sure psychologists would have a field day analyzing that and the bid for a reality show.

Sensible Mom on July 16, 2010 at 6:40 PM

Mister Ghost on July 16, 2010 at 7:39 PM

I have long thought Bristol is an immature person who doesn’t plan ahead. Not just the unplanned pregnancy but the whole advocate for preventing pregnancy brought unwanted quotes and question that the daughter of Sarah Palin can’t get involved in even if she had Obama’s silver tougue and ability to lie. I have seen gaff after gaff with this girl and I think her mother is at fault for supporting her entering the mine fields instead of steering her away. I got an idea. Since your mother has enough cash why don’t you go to school or something else 19 year-old’s do instead of the constant limelight of being on TV somewhere or magazine covers. I suspect this girl has an inflated ego judging by what she THINKS she can handle! I don’t excuse Sarah from creating that either. Oh wait we can count on Levi to keep her humble, right? He’s never got caught up in any attraction to the limelight he couldn’t handle has he?

Conan on July 16, 2010 at 7:40 PM

LOL at the Sarah groupies tsk-tsking Bristol, so
compromised they can’t even objectively recognize
that Palin is essentially Bush with breasts.

Meanwhile, the rest of us root for true conservatives like Demint, Christie, Bachmann and Jindal. And although Ryan has
a few flaws, I can live with him as President too.

Limerick on July 16, 2010 at 8:11 PM

When conservatives start going so nuts they’re comparing a half of one term governor who quit her job to get rich to Ronald Reagan, who actually KNEW his stuff, you know the world has gone mad.

Reagan spent years (and years!) in politics, studying the big issues, getting his philosophy down before ever hinting at any sort of run for president.!

TheBlueSite on July 16, 2010 at 6:13 PM

“Getting his philosophy down”? LOL Give me a break. Reagan and Palin are similar in that they are both charismatic, conservative and they both had their intelligence and even sanity questioned by the likes of you. Reagan’s suddenly become an intellectual? Amusing. Thirty-five years ago he was considered an ignorant racist Neanderthal. And that was just a lot of Republicans.

The following posts were very thought provoking or well thought out. Each of you should write for THE GREEN ROOM if you are not presently.

The event of her daughter getting engaged to Sarah’s arch enemy, without the mother knowing, ended all chances for presidency, Jenfidel’s “charming couple” musings aside.
The two families will be filthy rich, but no serious people will take them seriously again.
I feel sorry for Todd and Sarah, but reality is what it is.
Johnston’s tool now rules and manipulates the roost. Sarah’s daughter will suffer enormous consequences. The child will too.
Shakespeare could not have written a better melodrama.
Soros could have financed all this. It’s much more devious than any fiction.
Cristie/Brewer, the country’s problem solvers…and Cristie will not allow the weight chart law to go into effect.
Schadenfreude on July 16, 2010 at 5:01 PM

Palin is has turned into a full three-ring circus. Part of that is her own doing (e.g., quitting governor), part of it is the left’s, and part of it is her daughter.
But in the end, it doesn’t matter why she’s a mess. It just matters that she is, and that at a time when focusing on issues meanings winning elections, she’s a distraction and hurtful to getting conservatives elected.
Nessuno on July 16, 2010 at 5:24 PM

Upinak, they need to be judged. I’m not some troll or a lib who wishes the Palin family harm. Quite the opposite– I think they’re good, solid people, but again, this is awful behavior for adults with a child. They need to be judged because that is the only way that might possibly stop them on this awful road they’re going down– to make them realize that people who have good intentions for them are offended by what they’re doing– to themselves, their family, and their son. You can shrug your shoulders and say, “Eh, kids”, but that’s not going to stop this self-descructive behavior.
Pasalubong on July 16, 2010 at 5:36 PM

I have been a Palin fan from the beginning. However, I hate to say it but if Bristol becomes a reality tv star that is the end of any Presidential hopes for Sarah.

All of these comparisons to Reagan’s kids are irrelevant. Why? Because Reagan was a man. Like it or not, mom’s are the ones who are blamed when their kids go astray. And Palin has used her kids as part of her platform. The mom that was concerned about her kids future and education, so she joined the PTA…and the rest is history.

I have been a huge defender of Palin but even I am tiring of the tabloid drama. Sarah already has many hurdles to overcome if she wants to be President in 2012….and I don’t see her doing the things she needs to do to prepare herself for a run, like boning up on foreign policy, joining think tanks or a trade organization, etc. (this is why I don’t think she is going to run) But this latest Palin family drama is yet another obstacle Palin has to overcome…and it doesn’t help with the “white trash” label of the family.

I think Sarah can continue to be an activist for conservative principles but having a daughter on reality tv pretty much blows her chances of the White House.

This is going to be a disaster for Sarah. I’m sure this is going to cause a riff within the Palin family and Bristol will use her tv time to trash her family…cuz that’s how she will make money. Her reality show will have to compete with Bad Girls Club, For the Love of RayJ, Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Pretty Wild, etc. We will get to hear all about what a horrible mother Sarah was and how she was never home, she made her kids cook their own food, do their own laundry, and just wanted to be famous, blah, blah, blah.

The Democrats won’t need to do anymore to destroy Sarah..her own daughter will do it for them.

And the article from Bristol’s ex confirms what I already thought….Bristol has a strained relationship with her parents. I suspect it started when she started dating Levi (since he said in his GQ article that Todd offered to buy Bristol a car if she would dump Levi) and has just continued to get more strained with each stupid mistake Bristol makes.

I hope this self-centered, vindictive little tramp thanks whatever God she believes in that she has parents as Christian as Todd and Sarah. If any kid of mine spat in their mother’s face and knifed her in the back like this they’d have the door permanently slammed in their face. No phone calls, no holiday gatherings. Nothing.

When Levi sells the honeymoon sex tape to TMZ and Bristol runs back home crying to mommmy and daddy they should pretend they don’t even know her.

Pasalubong on July 16, 2010 at 5:36 PM

So are you just not yet 19 years old yourself or have you forgotten what it’s like? As I recollect, I knew everything when I was 19. And I wasn’t even a bad kid compared with some of my friends whose parents were at their wits end over their behavior. Just because the law says you’re an adult doesn’t mean you always behave like one. Bristol obviously has much growing up left to do. Nothing wrong with that.

I really kind of find your assertion that we have a right to judge the girl kind of off-putting. Have an opinion about it, be angry at it if you must, but for pete’s sake, leave the “judging” up to the people who might actually be hurt by all of this — like, I don’t know, her family? — or maybe Somebody with greater authority than we have here on planet Earth. Self-righteousness is almost as unbecoming a quality in a person as stupidity is.

The problem is that when the time is right, the MSM will run this up the flagpole and salute it every 3hrs on cable and elsewhere.
-
I do love Sarah, but this adds to an already tough sell. Not so much mind you due to anything specific about Sarah herself… But because the meme has been made to stick in so many minds (even people I know who live their lives much as she does have bought the poor press) and obviously more stuff like this will happen with the kids.
-
Add to that the willingness of so many to out right make sh*t up about her… Very tough sell for president. Plus she won’t have the benefit of mass media type pronouncements that minimize this, as Obama did with Rev Wright, Ayres… et al.
-
As a sniper she’s very valuable; her timing and comments about Obie have been right on. I’m waiting to see if the right can put up someone without a serious problem, and with a record that makes sense… Otherwise, just vote against Obama and the gang at every chance.
-
And I still think this reunion has been planned by a leftist benefactor to Hollywood…

Levi isn’t Sarah’s “arch enemy.”
Please, spare us the Hollywood hyberbole!
He’s the father of her grandson.

As for your Soros remark, that’s more like it.
Soros very well may have financed this MSM propaganda campaign with Obama’s blessing to destroy Sarah, while AP here at HA uses these rumors as comment chum, knowing it will get a bazillion comments.

Isn’t it curious that all these trashy tabloid stories about her daughter come out at the same time that “legitimate” news organizations just published polls that show Sarah polling pretty strongly against Obama and her potential GOP presidential rivals?

Yes, it’s all over the news. Just a Google search of “Bristol and Levi engaged” returns 17,600,000 results. Is this the only place you get your news from?

And you can put “tabloid drama” in quotes all you want…as if that’s not what this is. But Bristol went to Us Weekly (a tabloid) to tell the world she was getting married to her baby daddy. Oh…and her MOM didn’t know yet because she was (quoting Bristol) “scared and intimidated” to tell her. (the drama)

Us Weekly (tabloid) + not telling her “scary, intimidating mom” (drama) = tabloid drama.

I’m not buying any of this crap and I certainly don’t buy these magazines!
Bristol, an adult with a 2 year old, is “scared and intimidated” to tell her mother that she’s marrying Levi?
What?
She’s now a full-fledged grown woman but she’s acting like she’s a disobedient child avoiding a spanking?
And–a “2-fer–she gets to portray Sarah as “witchy-poo” who Bristol’s afraid to talk to?
Levi goes astray because he was in the national spotlight and was lured away by the siren song of Hollywood.
Now, he’s back, but wants he, Bristol and their baby to be lured back to the flesh pits of Hollywood by doing a reality show (where they’ll be ridiculed and made fun of as white trailer trash)?
None of this narrative makes any sense at all!
