NAACP passes resolution condemning racism within tea parties

posted at 7:54 pm on July 13, 2010 by Allahpundit

The text’s not online yet but it sounds like they scaled back the accusation from the entire movement to simply certain unspecified people within it. Which is the safe route, of course. Smearing everyone would go too far even by the standards of some liberals, including The One. (Remember when he distinguished between a “core group” of crank-ish tea partiers and more principled members who have legitimate ideological differences?) Focusing on an unnamed number of racists and then demanding that the rest of the tea party formally denounce them — as though TP leaders, some of them minorities themselves, haven’t done that whenever the media’s chased them down for a quote when working on stories in this vein — is much shrewder politically, as it lets lefties continue to play the “six degrees of Heinrich Himmler” guilt-by-association game whenever some moron with a racist sign pops up at a tea-party rally. Mission accomplished:

Late this afternoon the NAACP passed a resolution calling on all people — including tea party leaders — to condemn racism within the tea party movement.

Passed on the fourth day of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People’s annual convention in Kansas City, the resolution also urged people to oppose what it said was the tea party’s drive “to push our country back to the pre-civil rights era.”

Delegates said they wanted to make it clear, however, that the resolution wasn’t indicting the entire tea party movement as racist.

Unless it’s a nod to the Rand Paul kerfuffle over the 1964 Civil Rights Act — which Paul has since repeatedly said he’d have voted for — I’m not sure which tea-party policies that boldfaced bit is aimed at. Maybe spending cuts qualify as racist now too? In any case, Philip Klein of AmSpec was watching the debate over the resolution on the NAACP’s website and managed to jot down a few excerpts from the working draft — before the transmission was suddenly cut. Apparently the process was supposed to be closed to the media but someone forgot to turn off the cameras; thank goodness they managed to shut out the public before someone saw something politically inconvenient. Klein did catch a line from the draft accusing tea partiers of being a “threat to the pursuit of human rights, justice and equality for all,” but no word yet if that made it into the final resolution.

Rather than give you the clip of Chris Matthews interviewing the NAACP’s president tonight on “Hardball,” which was as predictable as you’d expect, here’s the slightly less predictable tete-a-tete this afternoon on Fox between an NAACP chapter head and a leader of the Dallas tea party. Shelton wants to hear denunciations of malign infiltrators, but go read the St. Louis tea party resolution passed this morning. Two can play at that game.

I am patiently awaiting the day the African American community in this country wakes up to the realization that they are being used constantly and consistently by groups like the NAACP, who use the “race card” to inflame and incite anger, not ever caring whom they harm, not ever realizing that by the constant attacks on their trumped-up, illegitimate instances of racism, they are greatly diminishing the effects on the American people that true racism should have when it rears its ugly head.

Do any of you care anymore when the label “racist” is applied to a group or an individual? I don’t, don’t even care to dig into the facts of each accusation, as I have become numb to the label, numb to the hypocrisy of groups like the NAACP, numb to their cries for concern, but concern for only certain people. I just don’t care anymore, and that is the legacy the NAACP and all the other “victim” promoters in the black community have bestowed on me. How’s that “great uniter” label working for you, Obama?

You’re officially on record making an obvious racist-attack and that’s your justification? Not getting a response justifies your posting a racial slur in full view?

Here’s what was going on. About five of my comments got blackholed probably because of the slur I copied and pasted from yours when trying to respond. Likely, your typed slur got my replies to you tanked.

SOOOO, let’s try this again. Why did you post an obvious racial slur in plain view on HotAir.com? Are you trying to tell me that there was no ill-intent?

The Race Card is a weapon under which weak minds are servilely crouched and can be fired with the greatest of ease by even the most reason and integrity challenged, and in fact, was designed especially for use by them. It is void of justice. It is void of liberty. It needs no footing in fairness, nor in rationality. It is, in plain and clear fact, similar to a lynching.

Tav on July 13, 2010 at 10:18 PM

Looks like the far Lefts first attempts at trying to Alinsky The Tea Party movement through ridicule (eg: LSM teabagger comments) have failed, so they have moved on the old standby of trying nuke their opposition with charges of Racism. Who better to do it than one of the most identifiable African American civil rights groups the NAACP? The problem is that the Racism epithet no longer packs quite the same punch as it once did due to over use, and if anything the NAACP by pursuing this course of action has revealed that they are having trouble keeping people on the political plantation so to speak. So by objectifying the Tea Party movement as Racist they are hoping to scare people back into the fold and stop them from jumping the fence. In a way it is very Orwellian and reminds me of the sheep in Animal farm who at the prompting of the ruling pigs constantly bleat “Four legs good, Two legs bad” as a means of drowning out dissenting opinions from any of the other animals on the farm during meetings.

The Race Card on July 13, 2010 at 9:00 PM

Bet you 10-1 Malik Shezzbop would be on Geraldo/Fox, calling MLK an “Uncle Tom” or “House Boy” for the “I have a Dream” speech if that was delivered these days, instead of back in the 60s. You can also bet that Rev Jeremiad Wright would be likewise screeching like a Flavor Flav from his roost in Chicago.

You ever been called “Uncle Tom?” I have, more times than you can theorize about. You don’t have to explain it to me since it is part of my personal life-experience. I do appreciate you imagining what it might be like.

As an adult it’s easy to modulate one’s feelings and convert the insult into a badge of honor. Growing up, however, “Uncle Tom” was unavoidably harsh in that it was relatively-unique. It wasn’t common like digs about acne, being chubby or dorky. It was one that singled you out for your best efforts and ridiculed you therefore.

What’s funny about this ongoing argument is that the ignorant racist troll is perfectly happy to be allowed to lay around on the porch at the liberal plantation while his masters laugh at his foolish antics because it amuses them. No dignity or self-respect; just the fantasy that he actually belongs as part of the ruling class because he’s allowed to hang with them. An honest look at the history of the Democratic Party would disabuse him of that mental mirage, but don’t ever count on his ability to look honestly at that history. He’s content with the lies and prefers to wallow in his victimhood, forever oppressed by “white America”, his left fist raised defiantly and his right hand outstretched waiting for his crumbs. He can never be a man because he has no idea what that means.

Good morning.

How can the Tea Party create an effective counter attack that can be used not only in the press but on the street? I like the idea of finally fighting back against accusations of racism, but believe it would be stronger if it is uniform.

Darksean on July 14, 2010 at 8:39 AM

Hey.

Wait a minute. Why doesn’t someone ask Mrs. Obama if she agrees with the resolution? She needs to go on the record as to whether she thinks the Tea Party is racist or not, since she was at the meeting at which the resolution condemning the racism was passed.

She needs to do that or also throw the NAABP under the bus.

This was a very good thread until the Race Card critter successfully got a few of you to engage in his/her terms.

Keemo on July 14, 2010 at 9:56 AM

The teaparty movement isn’t a racial issue, other than several liberal policies actually serve to support an ongoing return to the welfare state.

That’s just not going to happen in today’s economic enviornoment.

The answer is to ban racial signs and take the heat for banning free speech.

It’s a trade-off.

AnninCA on July 14, 2010 at 10:27 AM

The conservative messasge will, in fact, hurt more minorities than others. That’s just the fact. The programs supported by liberals are those that support minorities.

It’s always the case that when the economy downturns, those programs dry up. That’s not when they need to dry up, naturally. They are needed more than ever.

However, I don’t see the conservatives acknowledging this.

Holy crap you are a pernicious tool. What unmitigated gall to throw out such ignorance as a trolling bomb. You are the fool that Proverbs talks about.

Inanemergencydial on July 14, 2010 at 10:38 AM

Some other fake teapary stories are trying to emerge like the billboard with Hitler and Obama on it. The teaParty wouldnt do that. Its funny the libs are so identifiable in their tactics. The deliniation is like good vs bad and we feel it in our heart. Libs dont have that feeling.

Do you were a sign that says “I am stupid”, because basically that is what is stated each time you post.
Yesterday it was lies you were caught in, now you decide to go the “conservatives have no heart” route…a political tool that was first used in the “great society”….so tell me, how are the liberal agenda doing for minorities? How is the agenda giving them jobs? How are the being educated? How are the stabilizing the families.
You are a bigoted idiot…your brain cells have been destroyed by too much smoking and too many Krispy Kremes.

AnninCA on July 14, 2010 at 10:27 AM

You are such a liar…you have seen the links (posted yesterday to your idiotic posts) showing that it was fringe groups and anti-tea party groups who bring those signs…so fools like you can point to them and say they are part of the movement…when you know they are not.
Please stop spreading your lies…you should be banned for your continual lies and distortions.

right2bright on July 14, 2010 at 11:54 AM

Anything else you think I should know about responding to racist-slurs?

The Race Card on July 14, 2010 at 3:11 AM

No, colored people dwell, wallow, bath, in racist slurs…it’s the colored peoples shield, they need it to survive, whether it exists or not, they will create a “slur” out of nothing to deflect how little their own leaders are doing to improve the plight that their policies have created.

right2bright on July 14, 2010 at 11:58 AM

I think this sums it up…

NAACP membership: based on the color of your skin, ignoring the content of your character

TEA Party membership: based on the content of your character, regardless of the color of your skin

Which organization is a racist piece of crap?

AnninCA on July 14, 2010 at 10:29 AM

Could you please explain for us how programs can “support minorities” why sapping their will to succeed on their own and thus remain a slave to Master’s Government’s will?

Why do you consider soft slavery acceptable, and even something to be lauded and promoted? Personally, I find it detestable…

dominigan on July 14, 2010 at 12:53 PM

err.. “while” sapping their will

If dropping the F bomb on people didn’t get her banned, simply telling lies won’t do it.

Extrafishy on July 14, 2010 at 1:11 PM

I’ll be holding my breath untill the NAACP passes a resolution condemning the racism within in the NAACP.
