Reid: Ya, sure I support the lawsuit against Arizona

posted at 2:20 pm on July 12, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

That’s the big takeaway from this interview of Harry Reid by a Nevada television station this weekend, but it’s not the only point of hilarity. The interviewer starts off by asking Reid how he can make an argument that Sharron Angle would be worse in office than Democrats who currently control Congress, and Reid answers by saying that Bush lost 3 million jobs, er, too. Reid then defends the economic policies of this administration and Congress by touting the effects of the homebuyer tax credit and Cash for Clunkers, two programs that did nothing but steal future sales. The housing market just collapsed due to the expiration of the tax credit — which Reid then misleadingly claims to have extended (only the closing date was extended; no new sales are permitted). But John McCormack at the Weekly Standard picks up on the one endorsement that will probably cost Reid the independents he needs:

JON RALSTON: “So that is a yes, you support the administration’s lawsuit?”

HARRY REID: “I think it is important that we determine what the . . .”

JON RALSTON: “So that is a yes right?”

HARRY REID: “Ya, sure.”

As John notes, the last Rasmussen poll of likely voters from three weeks ago shows that 63% of Nevadans oppose such a lawsuit, and only 29% support it. Among independents, it’s even worse, 25/65. Only 44% of Democrats support the lawsuit — and 43% oppose it.

If Reid is hoping to convince people that Angle is the extremist, he’s doing his best to make Angle’s point instead.

Almost all Sharon Angle needs to do is to run an add repeating Reid’s words and votes.

I LOVE THIS LAWSUIT….It is a gift that keeps on giving.
Please Obama, file the “racist” lawsuit, please…we will own the Senate.
Obama, you are a constitutional scholar, don’t let some women from Arizona back you down…double down….

Holder is tilting at windmills if he thinks he has a legal leg to stand on in the AZ lawsuit. I guess that makes Reid his Sancho Panza

Has Reid even read the bill yet? Or, is he like Eric Holder, our racist AG that condemned AZ before reading the bill?

Both are such losers…

I thought Angle was supposed to be the greenhorn in this race. Couldn’t Reid have just said “That’s between the Justice Dept and Arizona, and it’ll be worked out in court.”?

forest on July 12, 2010 at 2:32 PM

Don’t worry Reid. If they ever make a live action movie, based on Wyle E. Coyote….I’d recommend you for the lead. Hell I’ll even spring for the ACME anvil. ;)

The best combination is a Democrat with a microphone. They can only hide their true colors for so long before their big yaps reveal the truth!

Harry Reid would deep kiss his worse enemy if it helped him win the next election.

This is a Spector, Crist situation, when they don’t get that the gig is up, people get where their interest lie – themselves.

Dr Evil on July 12, 2010 at 2:43 PM

So if 3 million jobs were lost during the Bush administration how come Congress didn’t start doing something about unemployment way back then? Why didn’t they stop spending way back before Obama came into office if they knew deficits were out of control? Why? Because they’re morons stuck on stupid “b-b-b-BUSH did it.” They’re like little robots programmed to make sure every interview has some kind of line inserted about the previous administration being to blame.

I think you can put money on that…slowly the tide is turning, the conservatives are making headway.
Now if they don’t screw it up, like Bush and his spending did, we will be able to solve some of these problems and stay in positition of control.

right2bright on July 12, 2010 at 2:59 PM

The Obama administration’s lawsuit against Arizona is tantamount to a claim by them that states have no right to enforce any laws that Obama personally does not want enforced. It is as simple as that.

This goes way beyond dereliction of duty on Obama’s part. It is an assertion that he, like King George, Hitler and Mussolini, is above the law.

So here in America we have a thing which for over 200 years has been most foreign to it and out of place, the delivery of our rights into a tyrant’s keeping.

It seems like whenever a Democrat becomes the head of the Senate for Dems, they get voted out as quick as possible. Anyone remember Daschle?

The only reason so many of these Dems can get elected is because no one knows who they are. Once they get national press, everyone hates them. They need to keep quiet in order to avoid letting their constiuents know who they really are.

It looks as if the interviewer, Jon Ralston, has done his homework. Reid sound like a puling whiner who can’t let go of his talking points.

onlineanalyst on July 12, 2010 at 4:01 PM

“We’ve made limited progress… I mean, we’ve made progress.” Ha!

And where was Reid (and Obama) during those last 6 months of the Bush administration when all those jobs were lost?

I seem to recall they were both in Washington D.C., supposedly doing something related to governing and budgeting, no?

LASue on July 12, 2010 at 4:05 PM

That interview should be taught in communications schools as an example of how the interviewee attempts to control the interviewer. Reid failed miserably, because he’s a horrible politician who doesn’t have the skills to pull it off, but he has obvioulsy read the memo that must be going around.

Every television interview of all politicians and candidates should begin with the interviewer explaining how TV works and go something like this:

“Before we begin, this is television [points to camera], see the camera there?” [Waits for guest to look towards camera.]

“We are being filmed. This interview will air during a set time period of 9 minutes” [or 12 or 18, whatever it is]

“Since we have a limited time period, I will ask a question and if you do not answer it I will interrupt you. Do you understand?”

“If, at any time during this interview, you complain that I am not giving you a chance to answer a question I ask, the interview will end and you are free to leave. Do you understand?”

Then the interviewer conducts the interview just like that.

Nah. Never happen.

Beyond his socialist dogma, Reid’s bitter nature won’t forgive Arizona for having its own casinos now. He represents Nevada’s mafia who demand a business monopoly (and own Reid). If he had any sense, rather than bitching at Brewer, he’d be taking out his frustrations on J.D. Hayworth, whose congressional record enabled new Arizona tribal casinos (even for a non-existing-tribe) with free operation with NO TAXATION. Sand in Reid’s mafia crack.

You have to hand it to the interviewer. He asked some tough questions. Why not give the money back if these are bad people? Love it.

Reid’s answer: “John—-let’s not change the subject.”

Nevada, it’s time to put this guy out to pasture.
