Quote of the Day

posted at 10:16 pm on July 11, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

Calls to protest Arizona’s tough illegal-immigration law fell flat in Boston yesterday as barely 400 people rallied in opposition to Gov. Jan Brewer and her policy to use ID checks to arrest illegals.

Organizers had predicted the gathering would draw thousands, but less than 400 people – some of them counter-protesters – showed up for the Copley Square rally. …

A fiery Steve Kirschbaum, a member of United Steeworkers Local 8751, called the law “scumbag, racist and fascist.”

Our numbers may be small, but we speak for millions,” he said. (via Jules Crittenden)

Illegals are not required to be in AZ to vote, they can vote from anywhere, right ?
As also get welfare / freebies, in any state.
So why do they have to be stuck in AZ ? Let them go where they are desirable and welcome.
There is no need for the feds to be hostile to AZ, and create such strife and chaos. This can be peacefully settled to everyone’s advantage. Unless strife is what the regime is aimong for ..

Schadenfreude on July 11, 2010 at 11:35 PM

you sure?…funnily enough I watched Dana Perino the other day on Fox News making the exact opposite argument, that it was the unions who actually opposed Bush’s immigration bill (the McCain-Kennedy one). Apparently the unions didn’t like the idea of the guest workers program for the Mexicans that was proposed in the bill and that was kinda modeled after the European version from the 50′ and 60′ when they brought in a lot of guest workers from ex-European colonies from Africa and elsewhere). The unions didn’t like the guest workers program obviously because that means cheaper, legal labor and of course they realized that their privileges were under threat.

canopfor on July 12, 2010 at 12:53 AM

They keep telling us that :
1. Illegals are essential to our economy because they do all the jobs

2. Illegals make the economy of the city and state they are in, to boom and just take off to infinite heights

3. Illegals are essential for our diversity because there is no other way we can achieve diversity with just legal immigrants

4. Illegals are not criminals

5. Illegals are good for unions and their bottomlines

So why are governors and mayors
from all over the country
NOT falling over each other
and fighting to get illegals into their states / cities ?
Shouldn’t they be sending feelers to ICE to send illegals to them , as a favor for which they will be eternally thankful to ICE ?
Instead of suing and wasting time and money, why don’t Hussain and DOJ just come up with a list of places which illegals and their anchor-babies can choose, when they land in ICE custody after a crime in AZ. Maybe Calderon will pitch in with suggestions, and publish the list in spanish, in his country ( ofcourse US taxpayers won’t mind paying for it)
I understand that Hussain wants to keep this isssue alive so no one talks about the Blago trial, the theft of Israeli guns by TSA or even the gulf oil disaster, but he needs to fix these voters before Nov 2010 and time is of the essence and amnesty even with an executive order won’t be pretty.

No privacy rights within 100 miles of U.S. border

10 July 2010: It is no secret that I am pro-law enforcement – very pro-law enforcement, in fact.

I was surprised to learn that federal agents, specifically those with the U.S. Border Patrol, have the right to inspect an individual’s cell phone (including call history, text messages and photographs), computers, cameras and even GPS units without needing reasonable cause or suspicion. Furthermore, that “right” extends up to 100 miles inland from our north and south borders.

Oh this is real good,Declaration of Independence
and Obama!!
============================================================

Some of the causes for our founders declaring independence from England and the similar if not almost identical conditions existing in the USA today are contained within the original Declaration of Independence. They are:
—————————————————–
1/

1.D of I: “He [King George] has refused his assent to laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.”
A. Current: He [Obama] is now refusing to allow sovereign US States to enact laws to protect themselves. Example: AZ passing an almost mirror image [but more restrictive to AZ law enforcement] bill of federal immigration law, in order to protect itself from drug cartels, kidnappings, human trafficking and foreign invasion. Obama & Co is now suing Arizona for attempting to protect itself; claiming that it is the US government’s sole purview to decide to either protect or NOT to protect the US-Mexico border. Note: In this way, as the US government is not going after other States who already have similar laws on their books—including but, not limited to Rhode Island and California—it strongly appears that there may actually have been some backroom deal between Obama and Mexican President Felipe Calderon to cede the State of Arizona to Mexico. By the way, did you know that Obama is using YOUR tax dollars to sue Arizona?
===============

2/

2.D of I: “He [King George] has forbidden his governors to pass laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.”
A. Current: This follows almost exactly in conjunction with #1 above. Obama says he has the sole right and ability to make decisions for the States. Obama forbade Arizona Governor Jan Brewer from attempting to protect her State and its citizens from foreign invasion. Obama encouraged a foreign government (Mexico) to also file a lawsuit against the US State of Arizona! This is patently treasonous behavior being affected and committed by the Usurper Obama. Obama is also gearing up to enact lawsuits against and to fight all other sovereign US States filing lawsuits against the blatantly unconstitutional ObamaCare. Again…with YOUR tax dollars and against the consent of the governed—now known as “the ruled ”

Enrique Mesa Jr.: Why the Obama administration is right to sue Arizona
—————

By ENRIQUE MESA JR.

Saturday, Jul. 10, 2010
—————————
Exerpts:

For weeks, Arizona officials have been taunting President Obama and his administration by advocating that Arizona’s get-tough immigration law is just mirroring federal law.

The suit underscores that immigration is an enumerated power under the supremacy clause of the U.S. Constitution. The complaint states that although states may exercise their police power in a manner that has an incidental or indirect effect on (illegal) aliens, a state may not establish its own immigration policy or enforce state laws in a manner that interferes with federal immigration laws.

The reality is that no state may enact legislation regulating who is a legal or illegal immigrant. The federal government decides who stays or goes, not 50 separate states. Presumably, that issue was settled in 1788 when the U.S. Constitution replaced the 13 colonies’ Articles of Confederation.
—————–

This one is a hoot!!
======================

The unspoken truth is that enforcement and deportations are up under the Obama administration, as opposed to the Bush administration. Statistics show a significant acceleration in immigration enforcement, with more than 387,000 immigrants deported since Obama’s inauguration, a fact ignored by the proponents of Arizona-type legislation

Labor Day Message from Barack Obama

by Donna Jablonski, Sep 1, 2008
——————————–
“It’s time you had a partner in the White House,” presidential candidate Barack Obama says in a video Labor Day message to America’s working families. Promising to end tax breaks for companies that send jobs overseas, to sign the Employee Free Choice Act and to deliver tax relief to 95 percent of working families, Obama says:

America was built by its laborers, but today our workers are struggling just to get by in an economy that no longer works for them. That’s why we can’t afford four more years of the failed George Bush economic policies—policies that Sen. McCain has proudly embraced and promises to continue.

It’s time we had a president who will stand up for working men and women by building an economy that rewards not just wealth, but work and the workers who create it. It’s time you had a partner in the White House who knows that the struggles facing working families can’t be solved by spending billions of dollars on more tax breaks for big corporations and wealthy CEOs, and that hardworking families need immediate relief….

It’s time you had a president who honors organized labor—who’s walked on picket lines; who doesn’t choke on the word “union”; who lets our unions do what they do best and organize our workers; and who will finally make the Employee Free Choice Act the law of the land.

That is the choice in this election. We can choose to remain on the path that has abandoned workers and gotten our economy in so much trouble, or we can reclaim the idea that in America, opportunity is open to anyone who’s willing to work for it.

But not everyone is sympathetic to the cause. From our friends at Campus Progress who listened in.
————————–
CALLER 1: I would like to speak out on something. I feel the new welfare queen in America today is women coming from Mexico with a bunch of babies. So I feel they’re all coming over here and having all these babies, they are the new welfare queen in America…

CALLER 3: One piece of information would be, they aren’t babies, they’re dependents. Don’t use babies. It’s emotional to them. They have dependents. We have babies.

And the racist ball didn’t stop rolling, even though the accusations are unfounded and irrational. Callers discussed strategies to flood Congress with phonecalls and faxes “to create the perception that there was a grassroots opposition to immigration reform”. Perceptions are powerful, but so are the actions of hundreds of thousands of workers, families, and women calling for immigration reform. So get your voices out there.

Many of these Dem governors are worried about political fallout in re to their campaigns. Is every decision made by the Dems determined through a political prism? Have they considered what is good for the taxpaying citizens of their own states?

More Cloward-Piven on the WH’s part to generate unrest and collapse the economy at the same time?

onlineanalyst on July 11, 2010 at 10:56 PM

To answer the questions:
1) Yes.
2) No.
3) Cloward-Piven is an externalist tactic used to gum up the workings of an organization and its defenders. When you run C-P as an internalist you stop up the very functions you need to continue attacking others until you become isolated, bitter, and unable to do anything except whine, moan and complain about the attacks you are sending against yourself and your system. Both internal and external attacks are double-edged swords using C-P, especially if you depend in any way, shape or form on the system you are attacking. Thus putting political hacks in place to hold up ideology and expecting them to be able to press an inherently anti-rule of law basis forward then undercuts the very position needed to do that. From the outside the ramifications of having more than just the part of the system you want to stop to be stopped up means you become a self-invalidating person or organization that does so as the collateral damage spreads due to unforeseen consequences. Thus political allies you push forward then become your representative and when they fall due to such fall out, so do you and your plan. The only instances where C-P can work are in extremely limited ones with easy to demarcate people and systems. When taken up against an entire system you become part of that system’s decay and when the parts you need to have not collapse do so, then you go with the system.

Gumming up systems is easy, making them work is hard.

In many ways the gumming up of the works was done over multiple administrations promulgating more regulations and more authority for government where it has not been given the power to act. Without strict constitutional backing, agencies become dead-loss to the overall government system. When attacks take on the few vital parts of government, the multiple albatrosses of all the dead-weight becomes more and more apparent. Using C-P cannot get rid of the vital parts to leave the opppressive dead weight, which is the goal of the political Left. It goes down as a system and the un-necessary dead weight hastens the overall systemic collapse.

Clean government is lean government. Which is where the Tea Partiers are now heading to as the unrepresentative functions of government funded by taxpayer dollars are the dead weight bureaucracy. To get the few parts mandated by the Constitution to work, the rest must go and a surgeon’s blade at the exterior layer of fat is of no help when there are extraneous limbs that need to be removed from this beast. You can either get out the chainsaw and do the dirty work that needs to be done, or you agree that you want to become the Soviet Union – note the position of the USSR today as a functioning Nation. Americans are starting to ‘get’ this and all that C-P does is make this starkly apparent. And if this system collapses, well, we can go back to the first few pages of Common Sense and read about society just before the Declaration for that is where we will be.

The protests in AZ were much larger, of course, but the polls still speak volumes.

AnninCA on July 12, 2010 at 7:52 AM

400 people showed up against the racist law. You think that is less? That is far bigger number than any of tea parties. Protestors speak for millions, I tell you. 400 people…. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

400 people. How did police cope with such a rally? I haven’t seen any reports of accidents. See how peaceful that massive rally was.

Didn’t Geraldo get hit with a chair ? ..You are right about classic..It’s almost as good as the Al Capone vault opening! :)

PS..G-O-1 the young generations can get more stupid than Hippie crew.

Yes, Geraldo got smashed in the face with a chair–hence the broken nose. Big Al’s vault–classic bomb.

On second thought, considering that the young generation drank way too much Obamao Kool-aid, I see your point.

Wow, Deval got nearly 100% of his voters. Did he bus them in?

roy_batty on July 12, 2010 at 8:08 AM

I’m also hearing that Patrick is rising in the polls again. Will they never learn!

I’m still convinced that a large portion of voters in Mass think that when they voted for Patrick that they were voting for Spongebob’s friend.

Actually come to think of it he’d be an improvement.

Ancient democrat (not-so) secret: unions pay members to show up and hold signs.

Bet those counter-protesters did it for free, though.

A fiery Steve Kirschbaum, a member of United Steeworkers Local 8751, called the law “scumbag, racist and fascist.”
“Our numbers may be small, but we speak for millions,” he said.

Do me a favor, Steve. Speak for yourself!!!

What galls me is….do these steel workers actually believe illegals taking jobs won’t eventually affect them? They’d better think again. I’d also like to know, just how much these dimwits were paid out of the Dems slush fund, to show up for this joke of a rally?
