Erick Erickson has zero credibility with me and his post on Reid is a perfect example of why. Criticizing Reid for supporting the Brady Bill in '93 is a fair criticism (presumably that's part of the reason he used to be B rated rather than A) but to harp on Reid having "[v]oted for the Clinton Crime Bill, which contained the ban on so-called 'assault weapons'" without noting that he voted against the AW ban itself is downright dishonest. As is making a separate listing out of the fact that he voted for cloture on the very same bill on the very same day. It's almost as if Erickson was counting on the reader not to actually read his entries at all, but simply count them instead.

Reid sucks overall but from a Second Amendment perspective, i can think of few worse things that can happen than for Reid to lose and the Dems to retain (or, for that matter, ever again regain) control of the Senate. Gun rights actually got better under Senate Majority Leader Reid. Does anyone in his right mind expect the same result from Senate Majority Leader Schumer or Durbin?

Most of the "I'm canceling my NRA membership over this" is b.s. from folks who were never members or supporters in the first place.

The single-issue NRA, of which I am a life member and who will inherit most of my possessions gave us a Republican Congress in the last decade. Unfortunately, the right demonstrated themselves to be nearly as greedy as the left. (thank you Randall Cunningham you bastard). I am dismayed to see Crist and Reid featured at conventions, but despite being disgusted by each, they have toed the line. I still wouldn't vote for either, but once the NRA starts filtering support, land mines and dilution of power result.

We are winning the 2A argument. The other issues can be solved at the ballot box.

Okay so CrazyGene is doing "damage control" for the NRA by using leftist tactics of declaring anyone who might give a second thought to their NRA membership to be idiots, morons, falling for GOA propaganda, etc.

I've got news for you CrazyGene: the current climate in this nation, since you apparently haven't been paying attention, is leaning toward a total defense of ALL rights, not just gun rights. To dismiss the concern of people who: a) can't stand Harry Reid; b) are concerned not just for gun rights but for the right of privacy in donations and the right of free speech; c) concerned that the NRA might just be a sell-out organization not concerned with gun rights at all but with the gathering of MONEY unto itself (like the unions) is pretty moronic in and of itself. And suicidal.

I am a member of the NRA. So's my husband and our daughter. Will we renew? Maybe not. Most likely not. Why not? Because we are a family that has in one way or another and on separate occasions sworn oaths to support and defend the Constitution: ALL of it, not just those portions that we have a special interest in. We are not a single issue family and we are not selfish and self-absorbed. If our rights to speak freely are secure, while others do not enjoy that right, then the oaths we swore mean nothing. Equal justice. Equal rights. So, sorry Gene who is crazier than he realizes! Our problem NOW is that we are being run by narcissists. I don't necessarily want to give money to an organization which is itself becoming narcissistic. Under the Constitution, all rights are important and worthy of fighting for OR none are. We can't pick and choose.

As to the exit question: will the NRA end up endorsing anyone? First they need to find out what they REALLY stand for, but my gut reaction is, no. I don't live in Nevada and who they endorse doesn't DIRECTLY affect me, but, were I a resident, I'd vote for Angle.

The HR 5175 fiasco and now this? I'm not sticking around to see what they do in Nevada. I'm outta here now. I just e-mailed them that I threw my NRA hats in the garbage and I want no more e-mails or magazines sent to me. I understand that they are a single issue advocacy group, but their myopia is dangerous. The events of the past weeks have shown how corruption creeps into organizations. Mr. Lapierre has had his big, red donkey d*ck sucked too many times in the Capitol. Not one more dime from this boy.
