Quotes of the day

posted at 9:00 pm on June 27, 2010 by Allahpundit

Welcome to what one exhausted adviser calls the “theater of the absurd,” where a White House is whipsawed by wild, almost unimaginable events that threaten to reshape the public perception of the Obama presidency at every turn…

“All you can do is smile at the absurdity of these things piling up,” said someone who spends much of the day with Obama. Interviews with top White House advisers revealed little smiling in the past 10 days — but a sense that, in the aftermath of it all, they avoided two potential P.R. disasters and emerged with a clear sense of the argument Obama wants to take to voters over the next four months…

As the Barton episode was starting to fade, the president himself looked to fade away into his favorite form of R&R: golf. Some officials cringed, but decided not to take their concerns to the boss. They knew he would take his lumps -– conservative media ridicules him every time he takes a break from work — but were largely unfazed. “Presidents are people — they’re not robots or automatons,” one of the aides said. “They need releases, as well. I think you’re really doing the country a disservice if you say to the president, … ‘You can’t take any time off to blow some steam off because we don’t like the optics.’ That would be counterproductive.”

***
The White House certainly has an enormous interest in portraying Mr. Obama as a president who has grown comfortable with his powers and is unafraid to exercise them. They conceded that Mr. Obama had no legal basis to force BP to create the $20 billion fund; they said he was making a moral argument, and used the jawboning power of the presidential pulpit to push the company…

“I think we used this week or so not only for a reassertion of executive authority, but as an demonstration that, when presidential power is judiciously applied, you can get a lot done,” said Rahm Emanuel, the president’s chief of staff, who argued for a more confrontational approach to BP and for General McChrystal’s ouster. He described financial reform legislation as one of five pillars of “a new foundation” for the economy, after the stimulus package, the health care overhaul and the re-engineering of college aid. (The fifth, an energy bill, may prove the hardest.)

Yet Mr. Rothkopf and even some of the president’s aides caution against confusing short-term reassertion of authority with a long-term ability to shape events. Wars and markets have a curious way of taking on a momentum of their own. With his victories this week, Mr. Obama owns, even more than before, America’s future in Afghanistan and the government’s running war to rein in big market players without squashing innovation or growth.

Let me repeat some points from a prior thread b/c I am SO angry with what this buffoon is getting away with.

That EssOhBee ObaMao responds to a G-20 question with a bunch of outright lies and half-truths and irrelevancies, and then runs away. Be sure to note, too, that he feels obliged to scratch his brow with his middle finger in Allahpundit’s linked video.

Congress has NO budget (and at this point, according to Hoyer, no intention of making one). The “commission” reviewing the deficit has no supply side nor business/corporation representation. The Defense Department is not causing the growth of this deficit. ObaMaoCare IS creating and exacerbating the deficit. Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell has NOTHING to do with the question.

ObaMao’s destruction of private businesses/corporations through government grasp of assorted sectors of the economy is killing growth and the cash cow that will pay for these socialistic programs.

And he has the nerve to say, you ain’t seen nothing yet…

That liar claims that the US is attempting to cut the deficit with Congress’s passing PayGo. PayGo has been ignored in so much legislation that requires financial outlay that it isn’t even worth using in a park privy.

This administration and the Dem-dominated (since 2007) Congress is puttin us into a dirty dumpster. And the Pampered Chief struts around entertaining himself self-indulgently as if he hasn’t a care in the world. Who or what is manipulating his strings that he can act so above-it-all?

I don’t want emotion from this fool. I want responsible leadership.

To Obama postpartison means only one side gets to be legitimate (his side…Chicago is a nice postpartison town

Looks like he is eager to start raising them taxes. Well, and means-testing SoSec.

I think he looks at recovery in a little different way than most people here do. 1. Hire public employees 2. Force unionization 3. pay the people who are squeezed out of the system a stipend.

Remember…economic “growth” is trumped by fairness. He doesn’t want the US to be the economic engine anyway.

gophergirl on June 27, 2010 at 9:17 PM

Not true though. The lame duck session could get ugly. Remember, the deficit reduction commission is schedule to deliver its recommendations in December. It’s not inconceivable that the Dems ram through a major tax increase before they leave in January. And even if they don’t, all they have to do is sit back and do nothing as the Bush tax cuts expire.

A VAT may be impossible if the Dems lose the House. I can’t see a lame duck Congress shoving that down the American people’s throats. Not if the Democrat Party actually plans on existing past 2012.

Doughboy on June 27, 2010 at 9:21 PM

With his victories this week, Mr. Obama owns, even more than before, America’s future in Afghanistan and the government’s running war to rein in big market players without squashing innovation or growth.

If it isn’t clear that Obama wants neither growth, or innovation, than we’re doomed.

He’s systematically destroying everything good in this country…in order to re-build it in his image. He doesn’t see himself as a two term, or one term president…but a life long leader. I don’t trust the man as far as I can throw him.

Since day one, he’s done just the opposite of bringing this country back. I am without a doubt certain, it’s being done with ill intent!

Oh, I forgot to mention that my gold & silver is ALL genuine U.S. coinage. It is legal tender and is only “worth” what the amount imprinted on the coin says. My 1/10th oz gold eagle that cost me $140 is $5 legal tender.

The government cannot treat it any different than the amount the government put on the coin.

Once you start reading the law, you’ll be shocked at how much of government behavior is simply unauthorized by law.

platypus on June 27, 2010 at 9:41 PM

Drudge has this:

President Obama on controlling the debt: “Somehow people say, why are you doing that, I’m not sure that’s good politics. I’m doing it because I said I was going to do it and I think it’s the right thing to do. People should learn that lesson about me because next year when I start presenting some very difficult choices to the country, I hope some of these folks who are hollering about deficits and debt step-up because I’m calling their bluff. We’ll see how much of that, how much of the political arguments that they’re making rig

ht now are real and how much of it was just politics.”

I have known, since before he got in, that he had a 1-2 plan. 1, spend everything and then some. 2, tax everybody to pay for it.

So it is simply disingenuous of him to spend all this time doing (1), then, when he gets to (2), portrays it as “calling people’s bluff.”

His argument is this: “See, you didn’t really want me to stop spending all that money, because now you obviously don’t want to suffer to pay for it.”

As if he and his Congress didn’t have anything to do with all the spending in the first place.

You know, it’s not a difficult job to come in somewhere and spend all the money plus all the money from the next several decades, then demand that people give you more to make up for it.

That’s not exactly clever, no matter how clever he obviously considers himself.

I made a video of Barack at the G20/8. I even use that photo. I think it will be worth your while as it’s pretty darn funny, IMAO.

Ah, ah, can’t have that. It might hurt Burundi, Ghana, Nepal, and Fiji’s feelings ‘cuz they couldn’t go on the field trip with the big kids.

It’s amazing to see the media not care about the governments consolidation of power. All the pillars that they’ve described are government takeovers.

Those touchy-feely shots are grinding my shorts. Is he going for the Mr. Congeniality award? It looks condescending.

I notice that Hopey/Changey is out of his element without
TOTUSA,and I also noticed Obama’s stealth controlling prob
lem,

ah,could you repeat….um..ah…the question…and….shove.
um..I..mean..put that….microphone ah..um…closer..ah..um
no..I..said….closer….,

It must be a b*tch that Obama can’t bamboozle, and corral
the international journalists in the way he wants, and as a
matter of facts,

lately, those international journalists have done a sh*t load
of hit pieces on Obama!!!

Scared is what that look is. No matter how they spin it , it was a rough week for Pinnochio. One general callin him an incompetent in public then a 1/2 hour meeting and then a meeting with CentCom Commander.

If those two Generals were serious about their oaths to protect and defend the Constitution against enemies Foreign and DOMESTIC then Pinnochio had better be scared!
Hes’ lucky he is still around!

Obama thinks it’s FAIR to have his foot on job growth in the private sector of this country? Because that might be an undue advantage to other countries? I don’t remember other countries having a vote?

I still love you. You are consistently on target. Its people like you and most of the other HA posters that make me feel that we will be ok in the end. I know that there are quite a few people out there that fall into the “I ain’t no easy win Cletus” category— Nutty professor from the Clumps. We will prevail.

arnold ziffel on June 27, 2010 at 10:13 PM

During his brag time, he used the freeze he placed on non entitlements (what was that amount? $17 Billion? Wow!) and then he wanted to brag about ending useless spending, but the only thing he could think of was Gates cutting on defense spending. The number one priority of federal gov’t. Tell me again how much smarter and better speaker he is than Bush? At least when Bush answered a question, he didn’t fumble, stumble, uh, er, pause. And, mispronounce? Corpse, Twitters, Headquarter, 57 states, etc.

Competition is the root of all evil. I am sure that I learned that from history. Does Stalin come to mind? The Great Purge.

Me thinks that look is what Pinnochio looks like just after Rahm informs you that they won’t be able to prop up old “Sheets KKK Byrd” there in the Senate and have someone press the yes button for him anymore!

That or the Generals told him what happens when they’ve had enough of his “Destroy America games”!

dhunter on June 27, 2010 at 10:24 PM

People should learn that lesson about me because next year when I start presenting some very difficult choices to the country,

This sounds like one of those Bill Clinton quotes he used to throw out just to feed the paranoid as though he found it humorous to stoke their fears.
