Video: Rubio blasts Obama Gulf response as “catastrophe” in itself
posted at 3:35 pm on June 25, 2010 by Ed Morrissey
Give Marco Rubio credit for taking a comparatively moderate tone in this exclusive interview with The Shark Tank. Javier wants to get Rubio to say that Barack Obama is intentionally screwing up the Gulf spill response, but Rubio won’t take the bait. Instead, he says that the response itself is a “catastrophe” of its own, authored by a team that is clearly operating outside of its depth in crisis management. “Every skimmer in the world should be in the Gulf right now,” Rubio says:
Rubio also takes his shot at Charlie Crist as well. When Javier reminds Rubio that Crist has spoken approvingly of Obama’s response, Rubio says, “He’s the only man in Florida” who is. Rubio also says that Governor Crist has a political motivation in praising Obama’s efforts, in attempting to convince Obama supporters to vote for Crist in November. That will almost certainly be a declining constituency.

Where Arizona has to decide on who would do the least damage as a senator, Florida has a clear cut option in Marco Rubio to do the very best for Florida. Not at all demeaning Gov. Brewer either.

Good for him!
But of course it is chaotic and intentionally so. He needs a crisis…jus ask Chris Dodd!

At least on the West side of Florida especially if hurricans bring more oil up on shore. Fox has a picture of 2 possible hurricanes already forming.
Can our HA scientists help me out- the raining oil video- many said it isn’t possible. That’s a rainstorm. What about a hurricane? Would it just be the surge bringing water onshore or can a hurricane pick up water/oil and deposit in farther inland?
journeyintothewhirlwind on June 25, 2010 at 3:44 PM
Wanted to say: can a hurricane pick up Saltwater/oil and deposit it farther inland?
journeyintothewhirlwind on June 25, 2010 at 3:47 PM
Incompetence or malevolence? With Herr Hussein Obama and his gang you just never know for sure.
Tav on June 25, 2010 at 3:48 PM
What real difference does it make?
Incompetence or malevolence, you get the same result and in a situation this dire, criminal negligence is every bit as bad as sabatoge.
The bottom line is that the GOP needs to do more to slam Obama.
A unaminous resolution demanding that Obama and Biden resign would be a good start.

They are dragging their feet to preserve the hoax that it takes 10 years before a well can begin producing. They need to drag it out at least a month or two.

We hate Crist here in SW Florida already; we don’t need the oil slick to reject Guv Orange Glow in Nov – that’s just icing on the proverbial cake. The only question will be how soundly he gets beaten here.
Same with the Panhandle and north of Tampa.
The true test will be in Crist’s hometown of St Pete and the surrounding areas. We’ll see if they love him more than their beaches.
Marybeth on June 25, 2010 at 3:57 PM
I vote for both.
Marybeth on June 25, 2010 at 3:58 PM
Peggy West said this would be important if Florida had any shoreline that was along the Gulf of Mexico.
right2bright on June 25, 2010 at 4:01 PM
I think we’d all agree that a hurricane can deposit water inland… But it can’t pick up oil, only its products of evaporation. It’s water vapor that the hurricane feeds on. The warmer the water the more vapor the more powerful the ‘cane.

Thank you. Maybe I am thinking about stories of water typhoons picking up water from lakes along with the fish and depositing them a distance away and wondering if the same could happen here.

Like this story from Australia from earlier this year:

Popular Mechanics has just debunked the “raining oil” video.

Incompetence is the scary part of Rubio’s blurb. It’s an oil leak now, just wait until we get hit again by terrorists and see what happens.
Bishop on June 25, 2010 at 4:15 PM
Take it for what it’s worth but NOAA has no record of hurricanes actually picking up oil out of water and depositing it elsewhere. However they hedged their bets because we have never had a hurricane strike during the middle of a major oil spill.
chemman on June 25, 2010 at 4:29 PM
a hurricane’s tidal surge can deposit oil well inland in low lying areas
it would devistate GOM wetlands and coastal towns
Crist is a real syncophant
“OBama is doing a good job”
what’s the motive
I almost vomited when Billy Nungessor was asked to contact Obama before the Press. Billy gave the president the benefit of doubt back then because it was his first visit. Now BIlly is openly critizing the feds lack of activity and downright delays to the recovery efforts
in Loisiana we can see right through this clown

Obama’s failure to lead will costs the Gulf region massive job loss as well as the loss of wildlife. It’s really spooky/creepy that the Obama admin hasn’t called for an “all hands on deck” to respond to this oil spill. Creepy still is that the network media isn’t reporting the lack of response from Obama. Weird.

Even small tornadoes can pick up stuff and deposit it in other places (frogs from a river, for example). Couldn’t the wind and updraft of a hurricane do something like that?
Daggett on June 25, 2010 at 4:41 PM
A waterspout theoretically could suck up oil and disperse it inland. Not far though. There have been cases of raining fish and frogs from tornadoes that passed over a body of water.
Guardian on June 25, 2010 at 4:42 PM
I’ll put my tin foil hat on.
Is this the crisis that will be used to declare Martial Law and suspend the elections? If the spill continues ocean current models show it rounding the coast of Florida and moving up the east coast before moving out into the Atlantic. Besides devastating the Gulf Coast Economy what will it do to the Atlantic Coast Economy? Would this provide the perfect storm for the left’s desire to enact their rule over us.
chemman on June 25, 2010 at 4:44 PM
The short answer is no. But the waterspouts/tornadoes spawned by the feeder bands can.
meci on June 25, 2010 at 4:45 PM
She doesn’t like Florida since security stopped her at the gate at Seaworld because they thought she was escaping from the orca tank.
Aviator on June 25, 2010 at 4:46 PM
I thought about that. My question is would the suction inside a hurricane even begin to approach that of a tornado/water spout. The diameters of their eyes are significantly different.
chemman on June 25, 2010 at 4:48 PM
FL is already in very tough shape, which is why people are moving out and heading to NC, GA and yes TN. If the oil starts hitting the beaches and hits the beaches on the Atlantic coast, FL will have to go through an even worse housing market, along with non existent tourism.
TimTebowSavesAmerica on June 25, 2010 at 4:51 PM
Most of the compounds in crude oil have much higher boiling points than water, and could not evaporate into clouds which could “rain oil”.
But if a hurricane hit the area now affected by the oil slick, large breaking waves could mix the oil with a lot of water and form a greasy emulsion, which could be washed over low-lying land areas in a storm surge, which would EXTREMELY hard to clean up.
Steve Z on June 25, 2010 at 4:53 PM
You’re probably right. Unfortunately, we’ll probably find out.

Paraphrasing “Hook” the movie

It’s breaking my heart. We’ve lived in Cape Coral over 40 years and have seen the area grow and prosper. The burst of the housing bubble, while devastating, is something we know we could eventually recover from, though it will take some time. After all, we reason, people will always want to live on or near the water
But throw this deliberate sabotaging of our beaches onto the already bad economy, and we’re going to suffer damages for many, many more years.
I despise Obama and his commie government with the heat of a thousand suns. And Guv Orange Glow slightly less (maybe)
Along with Colonel Allen West, Rubio is one of the few bright spots Florida politics has produced in quite a while. Thanks, Marco, for speaking up for us. Hope he can do it as US Senator Rubio in January – and help put the biggest choke chain possible on Wee-Wee and his destructive policies.

hear hear. I hope that by the end of the year we’ve missed the storms and the oil. My uncle and aunt are in Naples, so I hope you guys in SW FL come out well!
TimTebowSavesAmerica on June 25, 2010 at 5:23 PM
I think you’re forgetting the power of the hurricanes tidal surge which can deposit flotsum (including oil) far inland from the normal tidal reach. I believe that this could be dramatic to Florida being that most of the land is not far above sea level.

Thank you to everyone. I pray for the hurricane season to be a calm one and that the oil cleanup crews have enough time to do their jobs- this is why it was so important and hence irresponsible of Obama not to waiver the Jones act on Day 1 most assuredly by Day 30 and downright criminal that it hasn’t been waived (as far as I have heard )yet over 2 months into this.
I guess we and Obama will find out what oil and hurricanes can do….

With the greatest catastrophe in recorded Human history, in the making…
And this is the only thread on a so called cutting edge web site covering this disaster….wow…
jerrytbg on June 25, 2010 at 8:16 PM
We may get a test on the hurricane theories very soon as a tropical depression soon to be at least a tropical storm moves into the gulf early next week.
docdave on June 25, 2010 at 10:45 PM
Marco Rubio handles that interview with panache and detailed criticism of the ineffectiveness of an over-bloated federal government that cannot/ does not respond well to crisis.
More $ headed his way from PA from me.

I like Marco, hope he wins. But this advice for Shark-Tank.net for future interviews: pick a locale other than what appears to be the wall of a hotel lobby mens room with sound echoing scattershot around the rom, and for Pete’s sake, get your interview subject a clip on mic. Thanks.
Carry on.

That’s a really good point, once Liberals start one lie, they have to remember what they said and lie to cover it’s tracks and so on and so forth.
