New Jan Brewer ad: Here’s what Obama means by “border security”

posted at 10:09 pm on June 25, 2010 by Allahpundit

Via the Right Scoop, proof positive that Palin’s not the only Republican governor who knows how to spin populist gold out of Obama’s failings. The necessary materials? An extremely popular Arizona immigration law, soon to be challenged by the federal government; freaky deaky reports of parts of the state turning into no man’s land thanks to weak border enforcement; and of course a broken promise by The One to send at least token reinforcements to help out. Weave them all together and voila — you’ve got an incumbent who was struggling three months ago on her way to re-election with 55 percent. Well played, Jan Brewer. Very well played.

Oh, fun fact. Here’s the guy Obama’s tapped to coordinate federal and state immigration enforcement. What could go wrong?

From my website-

http://truthandcommonsense.com/2010/06/26/okay-now-it-is-getting-silly-brewer-laments-she-is-powerless-because-of-obama-or-something/

This is getting silly and dangerous for the citizens here being used as pawns. Take time to read it. Basically, as a veteran police detective, I am stating Brewer is playing politics as much as Obama is and using the border as a tool, not solving it as a problem.

Here is part of what I posted-

God, the politics is killing me. Really, GOVERNOR Brewer, you have chosen to not do your state duty to protect your state citizens in order to play tit for tat with Obama who is not doing HIS duty to protect the same citizens? Gee, could it be you are running for re-election and are willing to play this game to win? So, who is the corrupted by politics now?

I heard the Sheriff that controls, I’m sorry, as ceded control of part of his county because the feds won’t “control the border” in that area, lament on how he is so helpless. Embarrassing.

I spent twenty years working the streets. If the DEA didn’t go after drug smugglers in my city we didn’t roll over and start sucking on our thumbs and pout like a three year old. WE put a team together and went after them. Here’s a clue, and I’m sure it stands in Arizona too, drug smuggling is a STATE offense as well as federal one. If Julio the Mexican drug cartel smuggler is sneaking over with an AK47 and twenty pounds of cocaine he gets to go to jail, for a long time in state prison!

There is no excuse for a Sheriff to cede any ground to any criminal. All he has to do is call the Governor who can send state officers, task over agents from other departments and create a hundred man task force dedicated to sealing that hole. Throw in a couple of tuned in .308 Remingtons with 6×14 scopes or a Barrett .50 or two and you are good to go.

Crime and criminals are drawn to a vacuum. Here the vacuum is being created by politics. It disgusts me that Obama is willing to trade lives and safety for future democratic voters, but ask yourself a hard question. How is it that Brewer’s over the top antics to gander current conservative voters any different?

There is more. Nothing justifies treating your citizens as pawns, nothing. The first death caused by either the feds OR the state looking the other way is blood on the hands of all the politicians (and sheriffs) involved.

Shame on them.

This ad, and also just to spite the federal govt.’s lawsuit, makes me want to move to Arizona.

I like the rant archer52, she CAN do more thru the border patrol, mobilizing the national guard in her State, etc…, But I think it is also time for people to stand up to Obama, both verbally and in action (she can do more for her action part). But I thought the first step was to get a law that made it cut and dry that States can also enforce federal laws to allow her police to finally take action without fear of phony lawsuits. Can it be that the Arizona legislature is dragging feet or delaying her actions (getting more police or Guard down there – $$)? I’m stationed in south korea for a year now so i could be missing some facts on Arizona.

Next step Jan order the guard to secure the border with shoot to kill if fired upon orders and helicopters and predator drones

Predator drones…yes I like that. We’ll see if this really comes to pass, hmmmm…

From The Federal times:
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Wednesday that she will deploy additional Border Patrol agents, Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigators, aircraft surveillance and other technology to the Arizona border to conduct targeted operations against Mexican drug cartels.

However, Homeland Security officials said they could not say exactly how many agents would be sent to the Tucson sector.

Napolitano announced the additional deployment to Arizona as part of a list of initiatives to beef up security along the Southwest border.

Those initiatives come on top of a White House request this week for $600 million in emergency funding that includes $297 million to hire 1,000 new Border Patrol agents. DHS officials said they could not say how those agents would be divided among Southwest border states.

The request also calls for $52.5 million for 160 new Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and $37 million for two new Predator drone aircraft to patrol the border.

President Obama has already called for the deployment of 1,200 National Guard troops to the border at a cost of $135 million from existing Homeland Security funds.
