Video: Crowder on the “big oil” distraction

posted at 3:35 pm on June 24, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

Steven Crowder’s back, and Fox’s Red Eye has him! Earlier this week, Steven scoffed at the “big oil” card being played on the Left as the crisis in the Gulf unfolds. The problem is not “big oil,” or at least not at the moment, nor who is in the pockets of the oil industry. Considering that Barack Obama himself took almost a million dollars from BP, and that Democrats partnered closely with BP on their cap-and-trade effort, that kind of attack is going nowhere anyway. Its only value is as a distraction from the failure thus far of the Obama administration to get a grip on the spill:

Unfortunately, Paul McCartney didn’t get the message, and instead offered a Holocaust-denial smear to climate-change skeptics:

THE shocking images of oil-covered wildlife and ruined beaches across the Gulf of Mexico have horrified millions.

But passionate green campaigner Sir Paul McCartney believes the environmental disaster may have a silver lining, with the search for clean, renewable energy now being pushed forward.

The Beatles legend said: “Sadly we need disasters like this to show people. Some people don’t believe in climate warming – like those who don’t believe there was a Holocaust.

“But the facts indicate that there’s something going on and we’ve got to be aware of it if we want our kids to inherit a decent world, not a complete nightmare of a planet – clean, renewable energy is for starters.”

We know the Holocaust took place because of eyewitness testimony, records kept by the Nazis, and an overwhelming amount of evidence at the camps. We don’t rely on computer models that continually fail to deliver accurate predictions and unscientific conjecture to establish the fact of the Holocaust. And we don’t “need disasters like this” to show people anything except that (a) exploration is risky, and (b) it would be a lot less risky on land and in shallower water if the American government would allow it.

sir paul,
Are you in denial over gore?

“”But the facts indicate that there’s something going on…”

Sounds like a song title that would fit on the Sgt. Pepper album. What’s Paul been smoking lately?

Drained Brain on June 24, 2010 at 3:39 PM

The next night they let Bill Shultz host, and it was a disaster.

John the Libertarian on June 24, 2010 at 3:41 PM

I always liked the Stones better anyway.

The spin… so much spin. Explosion on an oil rig = AGW. My head hurts.

Not to speak ill of the dead, but this is the same guy who thought Linda McCartney could sing…

crazy_legs on June 24, 2010 at 3:46 PM

Hep Paul….how about telling those 11 dead rig workers families how we “need disasters like this”…a$$hole…

PatriotRider on June 24, 2010 at 3:47 PM

Sir Paul had his Lexus Hybrid delivered to him from Japan by private jet. The Hybrid he got has a combined fuel economy of 21 mpg.

It’s like Paul McCartney is driving a huge carbon footprint around the block, rolling down the window, and tsking at the Holocaust.

They should make Jill Dobson the permanent guest host. I can watch her make fun of Bill every night .

I’ll say it again:

Steve Crowder is absolutely gorgeous. I hope he plays for my team.

Lothar on June 24, 2010 at 3:55 PM

It’s a lot more than a distraction – it’s right up there with Teapot Dome:

I have been wondering how anyone could be so incompetent with regard to the problem in the gulf. Such failure seemed implausible but I have come to see what the story is with respect to offshore drilling: There is no money in it for many people and much money in other ventures. I invite your attention to the following sites and you can draw your conclusion but it should be obvious what is happening with this administration. I suggest that you hear and read ALL carefully and pass it on.

You mean you didn’t enjoy the “tranny transitions?”

If for no other reason, I liked it because Lauren Sivan was back.

Thanks to Sir Paul and the enviornmental activists, since we can’t drill on land or in shallow water where it is safe,

… the only place left to get oil for our economy is from people who do not believe there was a Holocaust.

Seven Percent Solution on June 24, 2010 at 3:59 PM

So here’s a guy that’s touring leaving his big, fat carbon footprint all over the world.

McCartney is just one more in a long line of elitist posers.

Anyway, back on topic, what if we considered Katrina the lesson we needed to learn about the vulnerability of the gulf to natural disasters?

Paul really IS dead.

Queen0fCups on June 24, 2010 at 4:39 PM

“”But the facts indicate that there’s something going on…”

Someone should ask paul to see those facts. For example I want to see the temperature measurements for every place that was taken for August 2, 1968, January 7, 1984, and June 3, 2004. That is what an audit is. They take random samplings of the data and verify that data.

But audits are impossible because the original data was “destroyed” (more likely never existed) and they fudged the numbers to show global warming.

Even with that being said… This disaster has absolutely nothing to do with Global Warming. It has to do with safety on oil rigs. I have not yet seen the report that says global warming caused the explosion on the oil rig. Maybe the left loons are going to come up with some far fetched connection that had the earth been coller the explosion would not have happened, but those people are crazy anyways.

But passionate green campaigner Sir Paul McCartney believes the environmental disaster may have a silver lining, with the search for clean, renewable energy now being pushed forward.
The Beatles legend said: “Sadly we need disasters like this to show people.

This statement is extremely disturbing. Especially given the fact that the response to this disaster has been tepid, at best. The bumbling buffoonery that has resulted in men actually taking their own lives in utter disgust should raise alarm bells.

The Tampa Bay area now has evacuation plans in place. Bear in mind that this area is well south from Panama City, but apparently shifting winds will be changing the direction of the disaster in the coming weekend.

Nothing about obama and his green (read:money) agenda could shock me now. This is … wow, I have no words left. I’m really worried for my State. We have a high elderly population and tons of Vets in hospitals in St Pete and in Tampa. Not to mention CentCom. OK, I’m making myself upset, so I’ll stop blathering.

Sir Paul…another rich pri#k starting to realize that he’s getting old, looking death right in the eye and off loading 60 years of guilt….real or imagined.

BigWyo on June 24, 2010 at 5:02 PM

“Sir” Paul, you ignorant leftist hypocrite:

Why don’t you spend a couple million of your own fortune to develop that clean energy and then get back to us.

I’m tired of having my tax dollars confiscated from my comparably meager paycheck every month only to be spent wasted on that pipe dream.

After all, I helped you get rich by buying Beatles records since I was a kid. But given your recent behaviour, I can assure you that you will never again see one red cent of my hard earned money.

UltimateBob on June 24, 2010 at 5:05 PM

I’ve wondered where Steven has been since he did an openning act for Glenn’s “The Future Of History” live show last march in NYC. He seemed to just disappear after that.
I’ve liked his work up till now; some of the rest of you will have to suit yourselves on that matter.
Nothing further needs to be said about Sir Paul. Most of us have an appreciation for his musical art. It pretty much ends there.

listens2glenn on June 24, 2010 at 5:14 PM

Paul is an outstanding example of the deleterious effects of long-term drug use. I hope he leaves what’s left of his brain to science. He’s talking nonsense.

In another interview he gushed on and on about performing his godawful song Ebony and Ivory for the first black POTUS. It’s obvious that he views Obama as the coolest black dude evah, and that’s about as deep as his thought processes go. I guess he missed the part where his hero said that wealthy people like him have “made enough money.”

He’s a moron, and not just because he’s the worst kind of Obamabot. He isn’t savvy enough to know, or humble enough to care, how his words and actions play with the public. The paying public.

Meredith on June 24, 2010 at 5:21 PM

Who pulled his string? Ohhhhhh yea, it was Mr. President inviting him to play at the White House that got him all thinking he was important and relevant and stuff. Time to go visit a library and shut your pie hole, Paul.

He is greatly admired for his music by many generations. We can do without his politics. However, if he keeps up this “maybe people need to be shown” dogma, I might have to run some background on him to see how heavily invested he is in the so-called Green Agenda.

They should always have Crowder or Jim Norton be the guest host. They were both really good.

And Sir Paul is just a laughing stock at this point. Put him up there beside Lady Gaga as musicians I point at and laugh. I really hope Obama doing the Nah Nah Nah Nah with him while the oil continues to spill makes it into some great campaign commercials.

I told Steve yesterday that the first half of RedEye with him hosting was unfortunately very boring, but he hit a huge laugh line right at the halfway point in the show and it was all gold after that.

Let’s not forget that Steven Crowder has zero experience at this stuff. He’s done some standup comedy in clubs and festivals, starred an indie film directed by his very talented brother in Canada, and some good (and some not so good) videos for YouTube/PJTV and that’s it. If I was Alies, I’d set aside some bandwidth for Steve to host an hour-long Foxnews.com show that’s streamed live every afternoon at noon Eastern and give him a good producer. Within six months he’d be so natural that they could put him on TV in just about any slot.

Look … McCartney is easily explained …

Of all the Beatles, Mac is viewed as the most capitalistic, the most “bourgeois”, the most evil. The guy who formally broke up the most legendary musical machine of all time – then he went out and formed his own band, and replaced Lennon with his wife … and completely went commercial.

If he dies today – that’s the way he’ll be viewed. He knows it … he wants to change it – because he’s at the end of his life. People mourned the death of Lennon and Harrison in some pretty stunning ways – but he knows that kind of lamentation will not happen with his own death.

So he’s trying to capture a bit of the “liberal” spirit that George and John had – hoping that, he too, will be remembered in a kind light the way they were.

I don’t agree with what he’s doing – but who can blame him? The fact is – he was the most “bourgeois” of the Beatles and, without him – they would not have been who they were. It was Paul’s work ethic that drove the Beatles. Paul was more working class than John Lennon – who’s remembered as a “working class hero” – but the fact is, John was the most well-off member of the Beatles, aside from not having a father present, and some issues with his mom – he had everything else he could want. Paul describes how “amazed” he was when one of John’s relatives just “plopped” 100 “quid” in John’s hands as a “gift”. It wasn’t something that would ever happen to Paul.

Paul was the focus of the Beatles. Once John got into drugs – it was Paul who kept the band moving forward. Paul was a better guitar player than George Harrison also – imo. The second side of Abbey Road was almost exclusively a Paul McCartney conducted “opera” and it’s still one of the greatest arrangements of all human history.

I’m sad he feels the need to tweak his legacy here – and color it with crazy liberalism. But – I do understand why he’s doing it.

“Sir” Paul has to realize that there are rigs in the wild North Sea that have exceptional safety records.

McCartney has developed some one of the various old-age diseases. Pretty soon, he will be divulging his age every time he makes a statement. Like, “I’m sixty-seven years old and it’s a sunny day.” or,”I’m eighty three and pecan pie glues my jaws shut.”

I always liked the Beach Boys, except McCartney once said that “God Only Knows” was the most beautiful song he ever heard and Brian Wilson has been in a medical stupor for several years now.

Oh the stress! I just don’t know what to do…

Mr. Grump on June 24, 2010 at 7:20 PM

Lets see.

The company with worst safety record in the industry, gives ObaMao $77,051 and receives from ObaMao’s administration the drilling permit, and a waver on safety regulation.

Plus they choose to use cheep drill pipe, ignore regulations they do not have a waver for, and when it becomes evident that their drill pipe is compromised down hole in a “hostile” drill sight they continue boring.

When they do decide to cap the well, they get approval, again from the ObaMao administration for an untried capping technique.

But if the earth had been cooler, the rig would not have had an explosion.

Paul McCartney is bug house nuts. But it explains why the left has made it virtually impossible to involuntarily commit someone, until they kill someone.

Slowburn on June 25, 2010 at 9:37 AM

At least Stephen get’s it right. The disaster in the Gulf is not an oil spill – it’s leak.

Therefore, my legal mind says that many of the EPA rules do not apply, because their rules/laws deal with spills not leaks.

I bet the staffers in D.C. are working triple overtime (of course which will not be paid because the senate and house have decided not to pass a budget).
