Dem county supervisor: Arizona’s law might have been justifiable if it was a border state
posted at 10:11 pm on June 24, 2010 by Allahpundit
Via Innocent Bystanders, high drama from today’s board hearing in Milwaukee about whether to boycott the new reich in Phoenix. Meet Peggy West:
There was an odd moment during the debate when Supervisor Peggy West stood up and seemed to be confused about her geography. “If this was Texas, which is a state that is directly on the border with Mexico, and they were calling for a measure like this saying that they had a major issue with undocumented people flooding their borders, I would have to look twice at this. But this is a state that is a ways removed from the border,” West said during debate…
While speaking at the meeting, West did go on to talk about National Guard troops on the border in Arizona. West points to that as she tells us that she simply misspoke…
West claims that the point she was trying to make is that because Texas has a much larger border with Mexico, she might feel differently about such a law in that state. “Had Texas come out with the legislation, having the largest border, I think that I would be more receptive to the fact that there was a problem. But having it be Arizona, having it be the second largest boarder and knowing there are troops on the border in Arizona, it didn’t seem to me that this legislation was particularly necessary at this moment in time,” West said.
Yeah, that’s a gallant try at damage control, but the part about Arizona being “a ways removed from the border” is kind of problematic, huh?
Anyhoo. Does this person really think that having a token force of National Guardsmen at the border somehow solves Arizona’s problem, particularly when they’re not authorized to stop illegals? And what’s the business near the end about Jan Brewer having a direct pipeline to Obama? When she first asked to meet with him, he turned her down; then, when he did meet with her, he made a pledge of new resources that he evidently has no intention of keeping. Exit question: Did West read anything about this issue before pushing for a boycott?

So where did she say that HERE, ON THIS THREAD? You are obviously hung up on lady because you attack her at every opportunity. You REALLY need to get over yourself!

You could have at least suggested chocolate flavoring too.
DrAllecon on June 25, 2010 at 1:37 PM
Given the obtuseness of many of his comments, I’d wager that he’s already sampled one.

Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t know reputations were reset with every new post. That must be a rule I’m not familiar with…especially as you’re now disregarding what she’s done in the past by talking about things you claim I’ve done in the past. These rules are so complicated.
Maybe some banana, too. Mmmm. Chocolate-banana Drano milkshake. That sounds good.

Hey , don’t be so quick to dismiss this lady.
Maybe Arizona ISN’T a border state. Yeah, I know it looks like it from the maps, but couldn’t the maps be wrong?
Maybe one of 0bama’s 57 states lies between Arizona and Mexico, and the cartographers and surveyors, and folks like us are just too stupid to realize it.

Ironically, my contribution made much more sense if you had seen an earlier thread. In it, Jimbo3 told an innocent poster to go kill herself, and then persisted in telling everyone it was because of MadCon’s draino comment.
It doesn’t excuse my smart-assery today, but you kind of had to be there. And you weren’t.
DrAllecon on June 25, 2010 at 1:54 PM
Smart-assery needs to be excused?

Now back to the regularly scheduled thread, because we all know madcon wont get banned for going off-topic…

DrAllecon, your comments are much gentlier, and the chocolate flavoring was funny.

Topic? What is this “topic” thing of which you speak?

DrAllecon on June 25, 2010 at 2:12 PM
This is the problem. The people telling us what the government can do or can’t do or what is or isn’t Constitutional are the ones that think AZ’s border is far removed from the Mexican border or that this law is any different than what is on the books in, say, CA. Their stupid and YOUR STUPID if you trust them to tell you what is Constitutional and LET THEM do whatever they want regardless of the TRUTH.
As Jack would say, “You CAN’T handle the Truth!”

MadisonConservative on June 25, 2010 at 2:16 PM
This foolish woman represents everything that is wrong with the Democrat Party: ignorant of important basic facts surrounding issues and willing to lie about what is known. And it’s hard to decide which is worse- being stupid or being a liar.
First, this moron is unaware that Arizona IS a border state with Mexico just like Texas is.
Just as bad, however, is the fact that she is either spouting off about a law that she hasn’t read or she is flat out lying about it. I’ve read the law and there is virtually nothing in it that adds to or takes away from what law enforcement officers have been doing in every jurisdiction in America since organized police departments were established. Upon contacting any person for any suspected criminal activity, officers have ALWAYS had the right to find out who they are dealing with. The person’s name, date of birth, address, next of kin or emergency contact person, where they grew up, and more recently their driver’s license and social security numbers are all relevant information for officers to know. It has ALWAYS been legitimate police procedure to find out if a suspect has a prior criminal history and if so, what that history is. Being in the USA illegally is by definition “part of a person’s criminal history.” Pretending otherwise is both absurd and the worst kind of cynical partisan political grandstanding.

I don’t need to make another crack about it. I suspect that you’re on your second six pack right about now. but I’m wondering why you’re not making more typos.
I didn’t do much in the way of personal insults until you (and one or two others) got under my skin. I need to grow up and stop responding in kind.
Anyways, hope you do have a good weekend in Madison. Don’t get sunburned, you being Irish and all.

He is trying to get people to forget he blasted a poster for telling jimbo that she was not impressed with him being an officer…and madcon and another jumped on the poster about dissing military officers.
When it was pointed out she was talking about corporate officers, you would think an apology would be forth coming…but instead madcon stepped up the attack pace…pretty entertaining actually. An obvious tactic, but entertaining.

I do have to say that I find all the jokes about her looks and weight to be utterly distasteful, nasty, and totally uncalled for. I expect that kind of snide jerkiness on something totally superficial from the left. It’s really disappointing here.
Unnecessary, too, since her fatuous stupidity is more than fair game, given her position in the local Democrat party and the fact that she is comfortable publicly attempting to influence policy on subjects she clearly knows nothing about.

Posters are hereby directed to review the postings Secret Codes of Conduct volume 4-F, page 666, chapter 7, section 8, column 2, paragraph 5 sentence three of “Limitations on Humor” strictly forbidding wisecrack expressions of insensitivity illustrative of human failings, physical shortcomings or weaknesses whereby, (removes glasses seriously and dramatically, okay sunglasses carelessly) those seeking to be offended may find offense. Strawman. Funny as all get out, but a total strawman. See, you were hilarious without ever once making fun of somebody’s weight or personal appearance, so it is clearly possible to doff the hair shirt and be amusing, humorous, and wickedly funny.
Making fun of somebody for the way they look is mostly just mean, petty, and shallow, not funny. Even liberals can do that.

Our Constitution does address certain relevant points. Congress is charged with many responsibilities to protect Arizona.
Article I
Section 8. The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;
To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes [Arizona has more tribal territory than any other state];
To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions;
Section 9
No Capitation, or other direct, Tax shall be laid, unless in Proportion to the Census or Enumeration herein before directed to be taken.
No Tax or Duty shall be laid on Articles exported from any State.
No Preference shall be given by any Regulation of Commerce or Revenue to the Ports of one State over those of another: nor shall Vessels bound to, or from, one State, be obliged to enter, clear or pay Duties in another.
Section 10. No State shall enter into any Treaty, Alliance, or Confederation; grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal [Describes offense for which commission is issued as reprisal]; coin Money; emit Bills of Credit; make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts; pass any Bill of Attainder, ex post facto Law, or Law impairing the Obligation of Contracts, or grant any Title of Nobility.
No State shall, without the Consent of Congress, lay any Duty of Tonnage, keep Troops, or Ships of War in time of Peace, enter into any Agreement or Compact with another State, or with a foreign Power, or engage in War, unless actually invaded, or in such imminent Danger as will not admit of delay.
Article II
Section 3. The President…shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed, and shall Commission all the Officers of the United States.
Section 4. The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.
Article IV
Section 1. Full Faith and Credit shall be given in each State to the public Acts, Records, and judicial Proceedings of every other State. And the Congress may by general Laws prescribe the Manner in which such Acts, Records, and Proceedings shall be proved, and the Effect thereof.
Section 4. The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence [Phoenix kidnappings, Mexican Terrorist fortresses above Tucson and Douglas where shots are fired to kill US/AZ law enforcement officers.]

Unfortunately, the drug routes go up through Phoenix. Some of the most widely traveled, where the ‘bad guy’ lookout points are posted and the traffic is heavy, and people are discouraged from traveling in, are in Pinal County, less than an hour away from Phoenix. Between Phoenix and Tucson. There have been shootouts on I-10 in metro Phoenix between competing coyotes.
But the ones in rural Arizona – the remoteness of the area didn’t help Rob Krentz or his neighbors much.

Yes, Arizona is a border state and has always been a border state. No one moved it.
Putting NG down there can help if they free up border agents so that more of them can actually be on the border. And I do think their presence matters, if it did not, then Brewer would not be wanting thousands of troops down there.
