Live video: Nikki Haley’s acceptance speech

posted at 10:02 pm on June 22, 2010 by Allahpundit

Normally we don’t do live threads for victory addresses, but a star is being born before our eyes here. And one with national reach, too: Not only is she bound to figure in the GOP’s plans for a State of the Union rebuttal sooner rather than later, but as governor of a key primary state, she’ll be wooed by every major player on the Republican landscape. Those endorsements from Romney and Palin were no accident, my friends. Click the image to watch.

Update: I’m having some trouble with audio on the Fox feed below. If you are too, try CNN’s live feed instead.

SouthernGent on June 22, 2010 at 10:10 PM

I would much rather have an atheist, two timing conservative in office than a liberal who claims to be a christian (Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton);not that she is either an atheist or a two timing conservative. Just sayin’

I can only hope that these spineless Republican men are driven from the field and banished for the next 30 years….when they discover their conservative manhood once again…if ever.

For all the negativity around the state in recent weeks, the (republican) voters seem to me to be very aware of what they’re voting for, and against. The sliming backfired. Tim Scott looks to be a fine candidate from what I read and see. They sent Bob Inglis packing.

They voters deserve some props today.

And I kinda think Huckabee is kinda screwed when the SC primary comes up this time around. Haley mentioned Romney and Palin right up front. Huckabee saw fit to align himself with that slimeball Andre Bauer. Well played, genius. Based off the results here, I’m thinking SC Republicans will remember that.

From your mouth to God’s ear…

“Politics and the pulpit are terms that have little agreement. No sound ought to be heard in the church but the healing voice of Christian charity. The cause of civil liberty and civil government gains as little as that of religion by this confusion of duties. Those who quit their proper character to assume what does not belong to them are, for the greater part, ignorant both of the character they leave and of the character they assume.”

Edmund Burke

canopfor on June 22, 2010 at 10:54 PM

Good on her for thanking Mark Sanford! He held fast to his governorship. I’m convinced the main reason he refused to leave is because Andre’ Bauer is such a weasle as the whole nation now sees.

SouthernGent on June 22, 2010 at 11:02 PM

That is a good thing.

Dire Straits on June 22, 2010 at 10:39 PM

Yes it is. I’d think out of the names we hear from most, Huckabee would probably end up needing the state the most. Supporting Bauer is definitely going to be a nice card to play against him.

I’m also hoping Barbour, and maybe even Jindal, throw their hats in the ring. To help neutralize him demographically in the south, if nothing else.

I don’t know who it is I’ll be supporting for sure but it won’t be Romney or Huckabee. At least with Romney, I know I can suck it up if push came to shove. Don’t think I can say the same for Huckster, and this endorsement illustrates a lot of the reasons why.

Anyway….congrats South Carolina!

Mike Lee with early lead (52% with 13% reporting) over Bridgewater in Utah as of 11:15pm eastern. That looks like will go deep into the night.

Republicans continue to show up at the polls.

South Carloina 2,500,0000 registered voters

2008 Primary 285,000 votes cast
2010 Primary 420,000
Runoff 360,000

North Carolina 6,200,000 registered voters

Democratics Primary

Primary 422,000 votes cast
Runoff 160,000

WoosterOh on June 22, 2010 at 11:30 PM

With 49 of 362 precincts counted (13.54%) REPUBLICAN Sam Blakeslee is beating the Democrat John Laird by 14 POINTS in the California Senate district 15 special election. But it is traditionally a Republican seat anyway so no big deal here.

crosspatch on June 22, 2010 at 11:38 PM

Mike Lee still with a tight lead in Utah, about 1700 votes ahead of Bridgewater with 40% reporting. Whoever wins this is the defacto next US Senator

Nikki Haley’s acceptance speech.

http://www.c-spanvideo.org/program/293965-1

Brass on June 22, 2010 at 11:59 PM

The people have rejected the special interests and the establishment-good-ol’-boy-bidnis’-as-usual crowd of both parties (in our legislature, there is essentially one big party, The Thieves, and a few reformers who rarely win a vote) with all their lies and innuendo. They have rejected the racial slurs and appeals to their baser natures, and voted for reform and open government, particularly with the choices of Haley and Tim Scott.
`
I only pray the people who belong to the churches of those upstate “ministers” who chose to question a Christian’s conversion will be enlightened to the evil which lurks within their “pastors’” hearts and leave before those false prophets lead them down the road to perdition and away from Christ and the grace of God. May they all read the writings of the Apostle Paul on that subject, and act accordingly.

Nikki’s so fabu!

Did everyone notice her loving husband and 2 precious, proud and beautiful kids that she thanked?
She said about the kids,”In the end, I remember I’m just a mom.”
Love it! (and so like Sarah…!)
Folks and that gay man with the toupee apparently couldn’t be reached tonight for comment about their “inappropriate relationships” with Haley-LOL!

Jenfidel on June 23, 2010 at 12:34 AM

wait wait what, she was endorsed by Sarah and…who’s that other guy, Mitt something..?

das411 on June 23, 2010 at 12:38 AM

Mike Lee now the likely winner in Utah US Senate race, with 70%+ precincts reporting, the lead is statistically slight but probably now too big for Bridgewater to overtake.

Edouard on June 23, 2010 at 12:40 AM

So classy, how she mentioned both Sanfords without even hinting at any scandal. Most politicians would have avoided mentioning Governor Sanford at all. This is a good sign – she is at least as fearless as Sarah.

We are living something no other humans have ever lived – the total rebirth of conservatism without a war. And it is getting really good.

platypus on June 23, 2010 at 12:49 AM

AP calls it for Mike Lee in Utah, Bridgewater calls Lee to concede.

Just for the record.

Every candidate Huckabee has endorsed in this 2010 election has LOST.

Conservative Samizdat on June 23, 2010 at 2:17 AM

Everytime I read about Romney’s endorsement of her it makes me sick. Mittens as Gov. of MA was the ANTI-Nikki Haley. Pure political posturing on his part. Other than the money he may have dumped in, I’m not sure his endorsement meant anything down here. His “big rally” with her drew about 100 people per the newspapers.

howIroll on June 23, 2010 at 2:44 AM

Man she sure sounds a LOT like Sarah Palin. Very humble.

This is another star for sure. She will be a player for a LONG time.

This is a wonderful night.

gary4205 on June 23, 2010 at 3:37 AM

Haley should win the general election, but she will face the same problem Mark Sanford faced for eight years: a legislature with no fiscal responsibility, a culture of privilege and cronyism, and a constitutionally weak gubernatorial authority to fight it. Year after year, Sanford warned the legislature and local governments not to assume revenues would keep increasing, not to spend it all every year, to create reserves for the inevitable slowdowns, but he was ignored by all and criticized by most state media as some eccentric Gloomy Gus.
`
Haley just won’t have the authority she needs to effect reform, and too few reform candidates even tried for the legislature. She can slow down their race to drive the state into bankruptcy while lining their own and their cronies’ pockets, but she really can’t stop it.

Adjoran on June 23, 2010 at 3:57 AM

Seriously, I am glad to see her survive the storm, and ready for the future battles that will certainly come.

If anyone thinks that liberalism, socialism, and worse are just going to lie down without a serious fight (think scorched earth), you’ve got another thing coming.

Christie’s was the only elected voice providing common sense porn. Soon, he will be joined by Haley in 2011. With the wind to our backs, there may well be more.
