Poll: Louisianans think Bush did better on Katrina than Obama’s doing on the oil spill

posted at 4:52 pm on June 15, 2010 by Allahpundit

Devastating. Especially since it comes from left-leaning pollster PPP.

Our new Louisiana poll has a lot of data points to show how unhappy voters in the state are with Barack Obama’s handling of the oil spill but one perhaps sums it up better than anything else- a majority of voters there think George W. Bush did a better job with Katrina than Obama’s done dealing with the spill.

50% of voters in the state, even including 31% of Democrats, give Bush higher marks on that question compared to 35% who pick Obama.

Overall only 32% of Louisianans approve of how Obama has handled the spill to 62% who disapprove. 34% of those polled say they approved of how Bush dealt with Katrina to 58% who disapproved.

The big winner? Bobby Jindal, whose 63 percent approval (65 percent on handling the spill) is the highest for any senator or governor in PPP’s polling this year. He lost some of his righty rock-star luster after that SOTU disaster, but I think it’s safe to say that he’s gotten it all back: The latest is that he’s lost patience with BP’s containment efforts and given the order to the National Guard to start building a barrier wall off the coast to try to protect the shoreline. 70 percent, here he comes!

As for The One, aside from delivering a big speech tonight in the Oval Office, he’s busy … delivering other speeches, like this one today in Pensacola. Note the quasi-martial rhetoric in the clip about “fighting back” against an “assault on our shores” while a crowd of troops stands assembled behind him. Looks like he’s taking Eugene Robinson’s advice and essentially declaring war on the spill, which won’t change a thing on the ground but might brighten up his approval numbers by projecting some C-in-C authori-tah. Exit question: Did you catch the magic word in the clip? He said it twice!

…Obama vindicates Bush with each passing day.

The Whiner and Chief has been nothing but an arrogant, narcissistic, liberal, incapable of any sound decision making and lacking in any leadership ability.

…living off sound bites and an a$$ kissing press will only get you so far when you are at the helm.

Obama is being exposed for the paparazzi puppet that he is.

…his administration has already been a domestic and international disaster and we still have more than two years left of this left wing vaudeville act.

….absolute worst President ever.

Forget lefty heads….MY head just exploded. To be fair, the spill is fresh in their minds, but…wow.

Well, he is the un-president.

The response to Katrina was massive , quick , and unprecedented for those that know the real history. Obama is only lucky that he has a a still fawning press.

CWforFreedom on June 15, 2010 at 6:23 PM

I just can’t wait until he fades into obscurity with his only legacy being that of trying to instill a Marxist government, bankrupting the country and turning us into a second rate power. History will record him as the worst president in the country’s history. Unfortunately, it will take more than another Ronald Reagan to undo Odumbo’s efforts. I won’t watch the dufus-in-chief tonight. He will lie through his teeth.

For libtards in New Orleans, who initially blamed this on Bush and have now switched to blaming it on O’Zero, SHOCK AND AWE HAS OCCURRED.

Kermit on June 15, 2010 at 6:24 PM

Well actually he is doing all he can do to support the local economy there.

What with buying snow-cones, bushwackers and waffles, he’s employing lots of locals in the food-joints. And the rounds of golf don’t come free do they? And what about the bus-loads of workers sent in to clean the beaches before he squats for his precious photo-ops? Give the man credit for doing his bit and saving the south! /

Ogabe on June 15, 2010 at 6:26 PM

CW,

You are absolutely correct. The center of New Orleans was secured rather rapidly and Charity Hospital (2nd largest in the U.S.) was made operational by 82nd Airborne shortly afterward. It still languishes empty since Blank Zero authorized Mr. Chocolate City to remove all of the copper wiring for scrap value.

Hey, you have to call it by its correct Hawaiian name, or you won’t be “cool” like O’Kickass.

It’s “Shave Ice”.

Louisianans have yet to admit their own blame for REFUSING BUSH’S ADVICE, for everyone on the Gulf Coast to move inland prior to Katrina’s arrival. Recall all those buses parked in the flood zone and all those stubborn losers congregating at their New Orleans sports center, defying Bush because he was a Republican and their CORRUPT Democrat mayor and governor said to stay and wait it out.

maverick muse on June 15, 2010 at 6:28 PM

Can you imagine where Obama would be right now if, like Bush, he had a national news media which was out to destroy him, for the most part? Instead of straining to cover up for him, of course.

ddrintn on June 15, 2010 at 5:17 PM

If they had actually done their job to begin with, he never would have been nominated, much less elected.

BobMbx on June 15, 2010 at 7:09 PM

Well for those who think that pre-Katrina blame goes to Nagin, you should know that he had no access to those school buses and the governor at the time delayed any evacuation in the en massed method that Nagin wanted. You see, Nagin had endorsed Jindal in the previous election and Blank Zero was out to get him no matter what happened to New Orleans. She had done the same thing previous to Ivan to Nagin and New Orleans, when it looked like it had the city in its bullseye.

jimmy the notable on June 15, 2010 at 6:12 PM

In Louisiana that doesn’t really matter. In New Orleans daily life right now Katrina effects get in your way more than oil spill effects.

If I am following what you are saying the the Emergency Management procedures in LA had some serious issues for both Ivan and Katrina. Maybe I was just spoiled by the military system.

right2bright – you are correct on the law, but the politics say something different. Politically (though not legally) it is like the AZ immigration debate. If the Fed gov’t wants to spend its time mucking with my copayments and fastfood intake instead of fulfilling its constitutional role, then the states will step in. Jindal is more than smart enough to understand what an idiot Obama is, and after Katrina and the criticism of the Feds (granted, much of it unfair) a Governor of Louisiana will never be blamed for taking the initiative in the absence of Federal action.

Bush would have made the effort to attend the May 25th memorial service for the 11 killed in the rig explosion. Zero had his higher priorities of attending a fund-raiser for Barbara Blockhead in Kal-eee-forn-ya.

Dero isn’t simply incompetent he’s the poster child for the scourge of the urban entitlement culture propagated by over forty years of social engineering, set-asides, affirmative-action and the increasingly laughable victim game pimped by Revrum’ Wrong, Jazzy Jack$on, Al $harpton and a whole lot of useless “studies programs” make-work quota perfessers.
