New footage: The unedited Etheridge assault video
posted at 5:30 pm on June 14, 2010 by Allahpundit
New from Breitbart.tv. No word yet on who the two students are, which means the media jury’s still out on whether this was a wildly inappropriate criminal assault by a sitting congressman or an act of righteous fury from a man pushed too far by the insolence of wingnuts asking him whether he supports the president. Hopefully, though, these two vids will finish off the DNC talking point that that crafty Andrew Breitbart edited out some sort of provocation by the questioners in the original video that might explain Etheridge’s anger. Unless they waylaid him somewhere before this incident and he suddenly remembered them, it appears to be completely unprovoked. And nothing he’s said, either during the assault or at his presser this afternoon, suggests that he’d met them before this.
Here’s something else to look for in the second clip while you watch: At seven seconds in, Etheridge appears to grab the kid’s cell phone. At the very end of the clip, he still has it in his hand. Dude?

Obviously the kid got his cell phone or recording device back….we got the 1st video above. Isn’t the video taken from the camera that was grabbed?

We can not find Lincoln Davis so the question is moot.

Look, I hates me some Democrat politicians as much as the next actually adult male, but, really, who amongst us hasn’t -with a little Bombay Sapphire in the alcohol stream- wanted to jaw-jack an obnoxious college student or two?
Doorgunner on June 14, 2010 at 6:29 PM
Yes. Whether he (Etheridge) did indeed grab it from him or knock it from his grip, I can’t tell. But clearly the guy got his cell/Flipcam back for the video to be uploaded.

If this kid were to file assault charges I bet a D.C. policeman would show up and give him a jaywalking citation. That’s what happened with the State Dept. ran over Mr. Treacher.
Cindy Munford on June 14, 2010 at 6:31 PM

<blockquoteA couple of “why” questions:
Why does this jerk not have charges filed against him yet?
Why is he not pressed about his insistence that he has a right to know who someone he just assaulted is?
anuts on June 14, 2010 at 6:09 PM
I cant answer your second question anuts but I can answer your first one…..
“….
Article I, Section 6 DOES state that “[t]he Senators and Representatives shall….in all Cases, except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace, be privileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same….”
They have immunity while congress is in session.

The Ugly American on June 14, 2010 at 6:33 PM
And even though he was obviously hammered, it’s interesting he still had enough snap to grab that camera phone right away. Makes ya suspect this man has been coached at ‘disarming’ citizens of their phones or at least has had some practice at that. Luckily, there was another camera still rolling.
It’s sooo much more gratifying to “flip” a camera at these arrogant idiots than that silly old-fashioned bird previous generations had to content themselves with.
And if we’re lucky, guys like Etheridge will get flipped out of Congress on their rear ends in November.

you know the more I think about this the more upset I get. I send Sen Burr an email demanding that he speak out against this. Sen burr is running for relection if enough people make this an issue the NC senator will have to address this. We need to destroy this Rep etheridge how DARE he strike a US citizen. How DARE he. who do these people think they are?
the entire GOP establishment MUST come down like a ton of briks on this guy. They are halded a silver platter to destroy the elitist democrates in Congress. This makes Scott folly seem like a small thing. Rep etheridge HIT a student. a KID. he did not text him. He STRUCK a KID asking him a question.

Second: Just pick him up at home over the weekend, when he’s sitting on his fat you-know-what watching the Sunday talking heads.

As long as the “right side” keeps up with fast-evolving technology, plus back-up systems — which I think we’ve been lacking. This incident, via Breitbart, gives me hope. We need to stay one step ahead of the bureaucracy, which, for all their preening, is always one step behind.
Nichevo on June 14, 2010 at 6:50 PM
It’s a shame the kid didn’t clock him: It would have been such deliciously justified self defense.
And, yeah – he did look hammered.

well at least the NC GOP party understands what is going on:
Congressman Etheridge Assaults College Student on Washington Street
As if it weren’t bad enough that a Democratic activist attacked a local tea party leader and former NC Senate candidate at a protest outside of a Democratic Congressman’s NC office last week….
this week, a Congressman has assaulted a college student on the sidewalks of DC. Click here to see a video of Democratic Congressman Bob Etheridge (D-NC- 2) assaulting a college student on the streets of Washington.

The real question is not who the kids are. The important question that must be answered is who is the hot babe is walking toward the group from about 2 to 8 seconds into the top video?????

Members of Congress no longer consider the voter relevant. They no longer consider the money of the citizen as the property of the citizen. Our collective voice has become less than an annoying whisper to them. They no longer fear us, or our vote.
The time grows closer where the correct reaction will be a “boot on their neck”.

SWAT Team surrounds a hostage situation…the hostage taker has already killed 5 people, and is holding 5 more. The the designated sniper peers at the perp through his high-power scope and suddenly calls out:
“Stand down, stand down!! He has a (D) on his chest!!”
(the SWAT team slowly withdraws…powerless)

Etheridge was not going to or returning from a session of the House. He was going to or returning from a fundraising event.

What is congressman Ethelridge so deeply involved in that he would react this was to a simple question?
Inanemergencydial on June 14, 2010 at 7:02 PM
Breitbart is brilliant. His rope-a-dope strategy with the stupid media worked like a charm. He releases the edited version, waits till the oh-so-predictable reactions from the usual suspects, then throws the unedited tape out there.
Etheridge, as dumb and clueless as he is and as drunk as he most likely was, recognized that.

This is a typical NC democrat thug/scroundrel. These people have ruined the state of NC, and finally, maybe?!!?, the people of NC have woken up. The state GOP has a chance to take the state legislature for the first time ever. Yes, EVER.
By the way, here is Etheridge’s opponent for the November election: RENEE ELLMERS.

Unfortunately Coastie..Congress is in session until they close the session(recess) or adjourn….despite the common misperception that a session is any time they are at the capitol and doing business, it lasts for one year….
Definition: A Congressional session runs for one year, 3 January to sometime in December. There are two sessions for each “Congress” (odd year to odd year). Adjournment means that Congress is out of session, it is closed to business. This is in contrast to a recess, which we might think of as “time off” or “pause.”
After Congress is adjourned, there are formal processes involved in reconvening. The Constitution forbids either the Senate or the House to adjourn for more than three days without the permission of the other chamber.
Congress will adjourn sine die at the close of a session. In election years, this has historically been in October.
As for the “going to or coming from” part of the clause that references a congressman’s time in which he is traveling to and from the start and/or adjournment of a session to or from his physical congressional district.

I don’t see anything wrong with ambushing our elected officials to ask them questions. In fact, its our duty. The government must be held accountable.
Thank God for video tape and the digital age. The GOP should openly hire video teams to do this full time. One team for every member of Congress.

That’s what’s so amazing about the press’ fixation on who the guys with the cameras are when the REAL story here is that it’s evidently recently become a hanging offense for anyone to suggest that an elected democrat might be supporting the dem POTUS’ agenda!
You can call ‘em anything else in the book, no problem, but calling a dem an Obama supporter gets your lights punched out now and everybody at MSNBC agrees that you deserved it!!!!

I don’t get Dems – they have the White House, Congress, the wonderful health care bill, a new supreme court pick, and a bright new crop of candidates like Alvin Greene, and they are all acting like they woke up on the wrong side of the bed.
PhillyUnion on June 14, 2010 at 8:06 PM
Not quite. It basically gives them immunity for civil arrest. The “breach of the peace” is widely interpreted to mean “criminal behavior”.
So yes, they are immune from civil arrests (contempt of court basically) but not immune against criminal arrest.

If your kid is stupid enough to defend himself from an assault by a sitting Democratic Rep, well, best of luck.

Andrew Breitbart is one of the very best advocates ever for conservatism.
He is able to turn the left’s media narrative back at them like a laser reflected in a mirror, and has the patience to wait for the perfect time, while anticipating potential fallout and counter measures.
He has a multi-faceted media toolbox and stainless steel gonads.

This looks like an ad for stricter law enforcement.”If Etheridge had not been out on parole this vicious attack could have been avoided.”
MaiDee on June 14, 2010 at 11:42 PM
There is indeed a law that protects sitting members of congress from arrest while in session, with the exception of the stated reasons: Treason, Felony, and Breach of Peace.
This sh!tb*rd’s actions fall into Breach of Peace, and perhaps Felony, and are arguably grounds for his arrest.
But you miss the main thrust of the argument. He is possibly protected from arrest, but there is no protection from civil or criminal charges, which should have been, and hopefully were filed immediately after this incident.
As we saw with His Slickness, even sitting Presidents are not completely immune from the Law.
NavyspyII on June 15, 2010 at 9:51 AM
I love it when Breitbart puts out the edited video first, allows the democrats get their talking points set, and then releases the unedited video the next day, blowing their excuses and spin out of the water.
Nobody has to identify themselves to simply ask a congressman on the street if he supports his own party’s president or not. I wish the students who filmed this would come forward and press criminal charges as well as sue this moronic Dem in civil court. Further, I hope he gets thrown out of office during the next election and never works for the government again. I call for him to resign now! If a Republican had attacked someone asking a simple question like this there would be calls for him to resign on every media channel (including Fox) as well as every newspaper and leftist interest group that ever existed.
