Matthews: Tea Party is scary because, er, gunsgunsgunsgunsguns!
posted at 12:15 pm on June 10, 2010 by Ed Morrissey
MSNBC offers a sneak peek at Chris Matthews’ new documentary on the conservative movement yesterday, and what does Matthews choose to highlight? See if you can guess what the takeaway was supposed to be from the imagery. Just in case MSNBC’s audience didn’t get the subtle message, Matthews makes sure that he hammers it home. The Right is scary, people! They have guns! Run for the hills! “They believe Washington is London,” Matthews warns Andrea Mitchell, “and they’ve got guns. Serious business.” Unlike, say, MSNBC (via Radio Vice Online):
Jim Vicevich scoffs at Matthews’ fright:
I love the sound bites with the militia. I love the conflation. I love the way everyone in the Tea Party is framed as a group that wants to wrestle the government from the “enemy”, like the British? You have to watch to believe.
The Gadsden flag has a long and illustrious history in our nation, and it’s precisely because the Right does believe in self-government that they use it in their protests. Instead of actually engaging the Tea Party on the issues, Matthews and MSNBC want to make the Gadsden flag into a militia mating call and show lots of images of guns to frighten people. Classy! It’s well deserving of a Leni Riefenstahl Award for Documentary Objectivity.
NBC is shaking up its management in the wake of its purchase by Comcast. How long before the new management looks into the sinkhole, in terms of both ratings and credibility, of its cable-news venture?

We tea partiers think Washington DC is London? Ummmm… Actually, Barack Obama thinks Berlin is Washington DC, or something. Didn’t he have a campaign stop there where he blathered about being a ‘citizen of the world’?
I don’t get it. What’s so extreme about understanding the Constitution and target practice in the woods? That sounds like a pretty typical guys’ weekend to me.
What does Chris Matthew do with his spare time.Nevermind. I don’t really want to know.bitsy on June 10, 2010 at 4:16 PM
I just hope that Magnifier on the AR is a clone.
I would never pay $400 for a simple monocular!

What an absolute buffoon. Wonder what his parents did that caused the problem?

Probably wouldn’t buy him that BB gun when he was 10. Seriously, people, don’t let this happen to your kids. Buy them that gun, and teach them how to use it properly. “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.”

A form of the Gadsden Flag is currently in use as the OFFICIAL NAVY JACK of the U.S. Navy.
It is flown on the bows of all commissioned vessels of the American Navy.
The flag replaced the old Jack – which was a blue flag of 50 stars – after 9-11.
This “Don’t Tread On Me” Jack is to be flown until the US achieves victory in the “War on Terror” – you know, the war that Obama no longer acknowledges?
Yet the flag flies.
Does this mean the U.S. Navy is a bunch of racists?

Matthews: “What’s scary about this is the Supreme Court doesn’t get to decide what is Constitutional. They do; they’ve got guns.”
Hope he makes a stronger case for this conclusion in the documentary because he sure as hell didn’t make it for ol’ Andrea. Wonder if he knows the SCOTUS is due to drop it’s decision on McDonald v Chicago some time this month? That might just align the Tea Partiers/Militia/SCOTUS in a manner that is really going to rock Matthews and turn his famous tingle into a shudder.

Saw five minutes of Chris Matthews tonight and he knows very well the majority of his viewers will be Conservatives looking to get mad. You could tell from his smile when he was plugging it as “controversial and going to get people talking!”
