Captain Kick-Ass, the movie?

posted at 2:40 pm on June 10, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

In yesterday’s OOTD, I challenged readers to come up with photoshops based on the movie Kick-Ass, and we got some great images of President Obama in the main character’s costume.  We couldn’t use them all, but they’re all good, and I’ve enjoyed seeing them.

Today, a late entry came in that I just had to post separately.  It reminds me of the Watchmen poster parody I posted in March of last year, found at Instapundit.  Now Hot Air reader Max H offers another movie poster with most of the same cast of characters as part of the Kick-Ass theme this week:

Rahm Emanuel as Big Daddy?  That’s inspired casting!  And “In the Gulf soon” is a pretty decent shot at the Obama administration, too.  Great work, Max.

The Brits may be ready to take Captain Kick-Ass on soon:

Chairman Of British Insurance Company RSA, John Napier, Attacks Obama Over BP Handling, Accuses President Of Hypocrisy

The BP fiasco is promptly spiralling out of control, and risks to alienate perpetual US ally Great Britain. Sky News reports that it has obtained an “astonishing letter” from RSA Chairman and popular social figure, John Napier, in which the Brit goes all out on the US president. “Please forgive this open letter but your comments towards BP and its CEO as reported here are coming across as somewhat prejudicial and personal. There is no doubt that BP, as a UK PLC, is totally committed to do everything possible to contain the oil leak and meet all its obligations in the USA. There is a sense here that these attacks are being made because BP is British. If you compare the damage inflicted on the economies of the western world by polluted securities from the irresponsible, unchecked greed and avarice of leading USA international banks, there has not been the same personalised response in or from countries beyond the US. Perhaps a case of double standards?” At this point, absent some material backtracking by the president, which in turn would be seen as huge weakness domestically, an ecological disaster is set to become a diplomatic one as well.

He ends the letter: “We can all agree that the first and absolute priority is to stem the leak.

“Perhaps the second one is to ensure the reputation of the Presidency outside the USA is seen as objective, balanced, able and capable of taking the heat when under pressure.

“We liked the Obama we saw at your election, can we have more of it please.”

There is more there now.

Definitely post worthy.

All of this reminds me of Liar, Liar, when during a break Jim Carrey is in the men’s restroom. He’s busy beating the crap out of himself, when someone walks in and asks what’s happened. Carrey’s character response is: “What does it look like I’m doing, I’m kicking MY OWN ASS!”

‘Cept in Obama’s case, if he even attempted something simliar, he’d just be busy doing that girly, slapping thing to his face. Even then, I’m sure it’d knock him out cold…

Everything this guy touches becomes a disaster. It isn’t a question of liking BP, Tony Hayward or whatever. Some of the ideas coming out of the WH today heard in commentary, not in articles as yet, are truly alarming.

In order to bolster this notion that he’s tough, BO behaves as though he needs to destroy BP. The ramifications go far and wide. Shareholders, including huge pension and profit sharing plans, don’t deserve to punished. Ruining BP will affect millions of people. It’s a terrible, thoughtless manner in which to proceed. The damage will go far beyond the Gulf Coast, and to make matters worse is simply unacceptable.

This president is a human wrecking ball.

Cameron needs to be firmer with Obama
Telegraph View: The long-term relationship between Britain and America should not be jeopardised by a presidential response that has been more petulant than statesmanlike.

——————————

“In his conversation with the President, Mr Cameron needs to make clear that the long-term financial well-being of BP is crucial to the economies of both Britain and the US. Despite Mr Obama’s insistence on associating BP with Britain, it is a multinational company, 40 per cent of whose shareholders are American. Mr Obama is beginning to sound stridently anti-business and anti-oil, neither of which can be in the economic interest of his own country, let alone ours. His impotence in the face of this environmental calamity is understandably frustrating, but this is the time for a cool head and a steady hand. The long-term relationship between Britain and America should not be jeopardised by a presidential response that has been more petulant than statesmanlike.

Florida AG Demands $2.5 Billion In Escrow From BP

Florida AG Bill McCollum has officially escalated the BP fiasco to the next level. In a post on his website today, McCollum announces that he has “sent a letter to BP asking the company to deposit no less than $2.5 billion into an interest-earning escrow account so Florida can be assured of its availability to the state and its citizens and businesses over the long-term recovery period.” And now that BP is perceived as the surrogate replacement of the “all free lunch all you can eat” US government, McCollum concludes: “Based on recent estimates from an economist, Florida could ultimately see losses as great as $2.2 billion, as well as a sharp decline in employment in the industries directly impacted by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. As Florida braces for what will likely be a staggering blow to its economy with significant impacts to our state’s workforce and the revenues of the state and local governments, it is essential that BP establish immediately a dedicated escrow account solely for the purpose of paying claims and damages to Florida and its citizens.” In other news, the Florida economy is strong and vibrant according to the Beige book.
