Boxer: Carbon dioxide will be “leading cause of conflict” in next 20 years

posted at 2:10 pm on June 10, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

Let’s see how Senator Ma’am’s priorities work in this revealing clip from her speech earlier today in the Senate. We’ve had four terrorist attacks in less than a year, two of which succeeded in killing people and another two which only failed because of the incompetence of the terrorist. Iran is a year or less away from getting a nuclear weapon. Turkey is rapidly sliding towards Islamism. North Korea is doing their best to restart the Korean War.

And what keeps Barbara Boxer awake at night? A raging case of the vapors:

I’m going to put in the record, Madam President, a host of quotes from our national security experts who tell us that carbon pollution leading to climate change will be over the next 20 years the leading cause of conflict, putting our troops in harm’s way. And that’s why we have so many returning veterans who want us to move forward and address this issue, so we can create those new technologies that get us off this foreign oil.

This hyperbole comes from a desperate attempt to get her colleagues to push her cap-and-tax bill forward in the Senate, and the ridiculous claim that CO2 will somehow outweigh a nuclear Iranian mullahcracy and a global Islamist network for national-security concerns shows just how desperate Boxer has become. It won’t work, however. Democrats already won’t come out in public during recesses, thanks to voter anger over their profligate spending and the egg they’ve laid on the economy. They’re not going to charge forward on an economy-killing energy tax that will stifle what little growth we have at the moment, certainly not just a few months before the midterm elections. Heck, even Lindsey Graham has lost interest in global-warming policy:

On Tuesday, South Carolina Republican Lindsey Graham told reporters that he would vote against the climate bill he helped author. Now he’s going one step further. Graham, one of the few Republicans who claimed to care about climate change, now says global warming is no big deal.

Graham appeared on Wednesday at a press conference with Dick Lugar (R-Ind.), who was rolling out his own energy bill, a measure that relies heavily on expanding nuclear power and raising fuel economy standards without putting a cap on carbon dioxide emissions. Yesterday, Graham said he didn’t think any energy bill could get 60 votes this year because oil drilling has become too controversial. Today he decided, at the last minute, to back Lugar’s bill.

Reporters asked Graham several times about why he was supporting Lugar’s bill, when just a few months ago he had argued that the Senate shouldn’t pass a “half-assed” bill that lacked hard restrictions on carbon emissions. Graham replied that he now doesn’t think pricing carbon is that important. “The science about global warming has changed,” he noted, offhandedly. “I think they’ve oversold this stuff, quite frankly. I think they’ve been alarmist and the science is in question,” Graham told reporters. “The whole movement has taken a giant step backward.”

If cap-and-tax was on life support before now, Graham’s reversal pulls the plug.  No wonder Boxer has a case of the vapors over, er, vapor.

I think they’ve been alarmist and the science is in question,” Graham told reporters. “The whole movement has taken a giant step backward.”

The fact that Graham still calls the AGW hoax science shows that he’s been looking at polling and not science.

The movement has taken a step forward – off a cliff and they want to take the US with them.

Boxer’s lies about the returning military’s concerns over carbon are a hideous insult to vets. Her faux advocacy for the group that she recently and sickeningly demeaned for daring to call her Ma’am instead of senator is shameless, two words that are interchangeable.

There’s an easy way to ease the problems with allegedly rising CO2 levels: pour hundreds of millions more dollars into USSOCOM, and give them the full cooperation of other organizations, such as those of the IC. Recruit and train more USSOCOM personnel and increase the OPTEMPO. As they secretly travel the world, hunting down and killing muslim terrorists like the animals they are, the CO2 levels will start to fall, drastically. This will, in turn, create a stimulus package, in spurring people to start their own businesses (writing more stories about SOF killing terrorists and destroying terrorist governments). It’ll spur Hollywood’s smarter elements to start putting out more movies like “Hurt Locker”, positively portraying the American Soldier. It might even result in a boom in recruiting, as people see how much fun they can have as an Army Ranger, in the Army Special Forces, the Navy SeALs, etc., killing terrorists. Result: more money spent on movies and television watching, more money spent on care packages and transportation overseas of those care packages. Also a stimulus package to the MIC (Military Industrial Complex) to churn out more and more terrifying weapons to kill terrorists, which the Special Forces will have to test, submit to the government, and get purchased. Unlike cap-and-trade and global-warming, it’s actually something that would work, and is completely truthful and ethical.

You know what causes more war than carbon? Hunger. People in CA will soon be without jobs or pensions. That won’t cause conflict in some part of the world. That will cause (and HAS caused) conflict right there in CA.

Boxer needs one big piece of legislation with her name on it. There is a slim chance, she won’t be coming back next year. This is her do, or die moment, and she’ll say anything, even if it’s incredibly stupid, to make it happen.

However, isn’t the answer for not being dependent on foreign oil, to drill baby drill?

I think drilling is safe, as lone as safe guards are in place. If Bush was bad, Obama is worse, because Obama made a promise to clean up the mess, and didn’t. But stopping the drilling is NOT the answer.

More on point, when Boxer dressed down a brigadier general for calling her “Mam”, she exposed something within her self that is ugly and suggests she is not particularly sensitive to the military, its culture and by extension its interests.
