Boxer: Carbon dioxide will be “leading cause of conflict” in next 20 years

posted at 2:10 pm on June 10, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

Let’s see how Senator Ma’am’s priorities work in this revealing clip from her speech earlier today in the Senate. We’ve had four terrorist attacks in less than a year, two of which succeeded in killing people and another two which only failed because of the incompetence of the terrorist. Iran is a year or less away from getting a nuclear weapon. Turkey is rapidly sliding towards Islamism. North Korea is doing their best to restart the Korean War.

And what keeps Barbara Boxer awake at night? A raging case of the vapors:

I’m going to put in the record, Madam President, a host of quotes from our national security experts who tell us that carbon pollution leading to climate change will be over the next 20 years the leading cause of conflict, putting our troops in harm’s way. And that’s why we have so many returning veterans who want us to move forward and address this issue, so we can create those new technologies that get us off this foreign oil.

This hyperbole comes from a desperate attempt to get her colleagues to push her cap-and-tax bill forward in the Senate, and the ridiculous claim that CO2 will somehow outweigh a nuclear Iranian mullahcracy and a global Islamist network for national-security concerns shows just how desperate Boxer has become. It won’t work, however. Democrats already won’t come out in public during recesses, thanks to voter anger over their profligate spending and the egg they’ve laid on the economy. They’re not going to charge forward on an economy-killing energy tax that will stifle what little growth we have at the moment, certainly not just a few months before the midterm elections. Heck, even Lindsey Graham has lost interest in global-warming policy:

On Tuesday, South Carolina Republican Lindsey Graham told reporters that he would vote against the climate bill he helped author. Now he’s going one step further. Graham, one of the few Republicans who claimed to care about climate change, now says global warming is no big deal.

Graham appeared on Wednesday at a press conference with Dick Lugar (R-Ind.), who was rolling out his own energy bill, a measure that relies heavily on expanding nuclear power and raising fuel economy standards without putting a cap on carbon dioxide emissions. Yesterday, Graham said he didn’t think any energy bill could get 60 votes this year because oil drilling has become too controversial. Today he decided, at the last minute, to back Lugar’s bill.

Reporters asked Graham several times about why he was supporting Lugar’s bill, when just a few months ago he had argued that the Senate shouldn’t pass a “half-assed” bill that lacked hard restrictions on carbon emissions. Graham replied that he now doesn’t think pricing carbon is that important. “The science about global warming has changed,” he noted, offhandedly. “I think they’ve oversold this stuff, quite frankly. I think they’ve been alarmist and the science is in question,” Graham told reporters. “The whole movement has taken a giant step backward.”

If cap-and-tax was on life support before now, Graham’s reversal pulls the plug.  No wonder Boxer has a case of the vapors over, er, vapor.

The only other woman pols as dumb and obnoxious as Babs are Pelosi and Waters.

Sheila Jackson Lee nd Patty Murray don’t even make the cut? You set the bar very high.

The only conflict I see coming from CO2 is the Freedom Fighters against a government that’s trying to tax their breathing! I hope it is only political conflict.

If it is so dangerous, Sen Boxor and her followers should set the example of not exhale any for, let’s say, half an hour?

Just when I thought Barbara Boxer could not say anything dumber, she goes and ups the ante again!

tballard on June 10, 2010 at 3:56 PM

Never trust Graham…or Lugar. If they are doing something even halfway correct, it’s because they see political gain or it’s purely a mistake. Doing the right thing for it’s own sake is beyond their comprehension.

I wonder if her bill includes a tax on Iceland for it’s volcano which is pumping out more CO2 than all of America’s industry

Does Madam Senator want to invade China to prevent the Chinese from building coal-fired power plants? Gee, I wonder what that will do to the interest rates they’re getting on our T-bills…

Better idea, Senator–stop breathing, and reduce your carbon footprint, and we’ll all breathe easier.

Please Ms Fiorina, help rid us of this gasbag! SHE is the major source of foul emissions

Who’a thunk it from Micro-Graham? Ya think maybe he read the “hide the decline” Emails from East Anglia, and started wondering about science?

Steve Z on June 10, 2010 at 4:27 PM

Well as the AGWers like to point out methane is 25 times worse at retaining heat than mere carbon dioxide.

Thus we will need to control global flatulence!

Global swamp gas!

Mind you, you could just burn the stuff to get a molecule of carbon dioxide… and then watch how quickly plants grow with carbon dioxide in the air as it is a necessary building block of cellulose…but that would require understanding this carbon cycle stuff and how much we love carbon dioxide and nitrogen as they make life possible and don’t leave too much of that combustible stuff oxygen around. Really oxygen is too deadly to have just flying around in the atmosphere… its just a lethal pollutant put out by bacteria in the first place… yes a nice anerobic environment would be perfect for the environmental nuts.

How would our returning veterans fight if we didn’t use oil-powered tanks, planes, and helicopters? On horseback? Somebody tell Ma’am Babsie how much methane horse manure emits…

Get ready to be outlaws or die, my currently law-abiding friends.

ie: the polls on this issue have changed against my position and this is an election year.

Carbon dioxide emissions from their mouths are the greatest threat to the re-election of most Democrats.

Major Accomplishments of Senator Barbara Boxer (D), California

(1) Sponsored and passed legislation that lowered the minimum height by 6 inches on all “You must be this tall to ride this ride” signs (thereby undoing years of personal trauma from being prevented to ride herself).

Sorry Barbie, you fatuous dope……………

The next big conflict is when you and your like minded ilk are forced to wear burkas and walk 10 paces behind your man with your head bowed lest you be buried up to your waist and stoned to death after a good whipping, of course.

You idiot! America’s daughters will pay deeply for your stupidity.

Being from San Francisco (long time ago) but remember when Sen. Boxer entered politics and she has not learned much in these many years.

The Vets are exhaling CO2 essential in ridding the body unwanted materials, and means they survived protecting U.S. from the likes of her.

Now Sen. Boxer wants to kill em by making them hold their breaths.
