Quotes of the day

posted at 10:37 pm on June 9, 2010 by Allahpundit

“Her decision to get – and stay – involved in the race here in South Carolina was a huge boon to our campaign, because it caused a lot of South Carolinians to take a second look at a rising in the polls but once-little known state legislator who was fighting to give them back their government,” Haley spokesman Tim Pearson said of Palin…

“Governor Palin’s endorsement was integral to the success of our campaign,” Fiorina spokeswoman Julie Soderlund told POLITICO. “She provides the ‘good housekeeping seal of approval’ for conservative, outsider candidates. After earning her endorsement we saw an immediate spike in support for Carly amongst conservatives, who represent the vast majority of Republican primary voters.”

Rachel Larimore makes great points, as always, but I differ from her slightly in that I don’t really want the wins framed as a Year of the Woman kind of thing. They didn’t win because they are women. They won for the people that they are and for the real world experience that they bring. In Whitman’s, Fiorina’s and Haley’s cases, for instance, they have actually, you know, made a payroll as opposed to living off the public sector their whole lives. Having run businesses themselves, they understand how they work, in practice and not just in theory.

However, I don’t think any woman must like them just because they are women. That plays right into old school identity politics and we need to be done with that. What I will not stand for, though, is outright sexism used to diminish these women, as is happening today with Sarah Palin. Again.

***
Many women’s response to Palin’s emergence as a major political figure highlights this need for ideological diversity. Shortly after the election of 2008, at a lecture I gave at Touro College law school in Long Island, a student in her late twenties made a powerful statement about what Palin’s candidacy meant to her personally. “I’m a professional woman who is also a wife and a mom, and a pro-life, conservative Christian,’’ she said. “I have always felt that feminism did not speak to me or for me. When I saw Sarah Palin, I felt I could finally call myself a feminist, because here was a feminist like me.’’

See I told you so….there is no hesitation of their part. They didn’t run as women…they ran as patriots who want to return this country to constitutional adherence.

THE LATEST Sarah Palin controversy has to do with feminism. In a recent article in the Washington Post, feminist author and blogger Jessica Valenti blasted the former vice presidential candidate for “adopting the feminist label.’’ Valenti believes that any talk of a conservative version of feminism is a cynical right-wing ploy to fool women into supporting reactionary antiwoman policies. But while Palin may be far from the best spokeswoman for conservative feminism, the idea itself is essential to feminism’s health.

Great quote. Identity politics seeks to divide and create hostility toward one another. Candidates should be elected or rejected based on ideas, not guilt trips.

But the outright sexism and misogyny should be repudiated from everyone, regardless of political affiliation–whether the recipient of the insult is Hillary Clinton or Sarah Palin. It’s demeaning and disgusting.

conservative pilgrim on June 9, 2010 at 10:55 PM

Palin appeared on Hannity tonight(Mitt Romney preceded her segment interestingly enough), and she sure sounded interested in running in 2012. BTW, I know Hannity’s a softball interview for conservative politicians, but she did a really good job discussing policy with him. I hope she doesn’t wait too long to start doing more appearances like this on other networks(aside from MSDNC of course).

Cindy Munford on June 9, 2010 at 11:42 PM

So I guess Allah was 1005 wrong on this post of his back in OCT of 2009:

The hard fact of the matter is that Sarahcuda’s only a clear asset on the trail in a red district where the base isn’t turning out. That’s why she was a good bet in Saxby Chambliss’s run-off in Georgia last year: The GOP knew it had the votes to win the election, they just needed to give dispirited grassroots conservatives a reason to go out and vote. Enter Palin. In purplish states like Virginia (and blue states like New Jersey, needless to say), having her out there becomes a crapshoot because it risks goosing turnout among liberals more than conservatives. In fact, assuming that conservatives stay motivated to send The One a message next year in the midterms, demand for her will probably be low since turnout will be high even without her help. What am I missing here?

It appears that then as now allah is missing a great deal of insight into the Palin Power movement within this great land.

Olberdouche had an entire segment tonight on how Sarah Palin only picks or endorses candidates that are so far ahead in the polls that she knows they’ll win. Oh, yes he did. I think he’s right because Richard Wolfe agreed with him.

And I was flipping back and forth between him and O’Reilly long enough to see O’Reilly completely let Mark Halperin of TIME get away with “So you don’t think there are racists who oppose Obama completely for racist reasons? Let’s go to a state like Nevada and some Tea Parties.” When Dick Morris called O’Reilly on it in the next segment Bill quickly moved on to something else.

Cindy Munford on June 9, 2010 at 11:50 PM

ROFL…maybe he does. Fut from his posts since July 3rd 2009 when Palin resigned allah has totally underestimated Palin and her draw to the american people. He insists that her support is a mile wide and an inch thick. and he is sure that just one scandal will derail her in her supporters eyes. yet from smear to smear and month to month Palin’s power continues to grow and outshine all others. Palin literally sucks all the O2 out of the room for every other wannabe candidate. You would think after a year of being totally wrong allah would admit to it and change his anti-palin worldview. If nothing else he must acknowledge now after last night that Palin’s support is both wide and deep and her supporters can decide elections in the GOP party.

She will need to parley that into wins in Nov but I see no reason to think she will be unable to do that.

She better get some riding leathers, or else just ride naked because biking without cowskin is the same thing if a dump occurs. I’ve seen too many bad scuffs in my day and can only shake my head at the rocket rangers who ride around in tank-tops and flip flops.

I don’t get the “enhancement” thing. Clothing and undergarments can change a woman’s body shape easily. Doesn’t the Left have better things to do with their time? They could be combing and fluffing their pom poms for their side’s next stupid move.

It’s the left narrative on Palin. the left wants to protray Palin as fake, a brand, made up, a product of madison ave only in it for money. thus they blow up every story that makes her appear so in their eyes.

We rode Sunday and I was thinking I might die before we get to Sturgis. I kept readjusting in the seat and my back and butt hurt. I’ll be the rickety one that can barely walk.

Someone tell Tammy to redo that picture and get her booger hook of off the bang switch!

That to me is the only problem with her!

I am not as convinced as you are of her future. I think the sheer volume of bad press Gov. Palin gets makes it easy to underestimate her. I have done it myself. I wonder if when AP decided to stop being a lawyer to become a blogger, many of those near and dear to him howled about the decision? I don’t think he is anti-Palin and I think he thinks everyone and everything is one bad decision from catastrophe. He’s the same way about Marco Rubio. He’s just funny, in every sense of the word.

So if you have alterations you can’t be taken seriously? That does not bode well for several ladies of the Left.

How far is the ride? The Husband has two Harleys but I think he might be selling them. Most of his friends aren’t riding anymore.

You are correct. Has anyone heard from the freak that moved in next to the Palin’s?
