Great news for Democrats: Senate candidate facing obscenity-offense felony
posted at 2:30 pm on June 9, 2010 by Ed Morrissey
Dave Weigel called Alvin Greene the “the kind of opponent candidates dream about,” but he didn’t know the half of it. Jim Geraghty noted that the new Democratic nominee to run against conservative stalwart Sen. Jim DeMint in South Carolina hadn’t filed any paperwork with the FEC on fundraising, but perhaps he just didn’t want to get in any more trouble with the law than Greene already faces. The Democratic nominee isn’t just “wholly unserious” — the AP reports that he’s been charged with a felony obscenity offense that could get him five years in prison:
South Carolina’s surprise Democratic nominee to challenge U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint is facing a pending felony charge.
Court records show 32-year-old Alvin Greene was arrested in November and charged with showing obscene Internet photos to a University of South Carolina student. The felony charge carries up to five years in prison. …
Records indicate Greene showed photos to a woman and talked about going to her room at a university dorm.
Um … wow. Just … wow. The Associated Press had better be sure of its reporting, because if this turns out to be another Alvin Greene, they’ll have to have their checkbooks handy. They did call and ask for a response, but Greene told them he had no comment.
I guess this eliminates the whole family-values campaign, then?
Assuming this is true, Greene hasn’t yet been charged, but he had to put up a bond to get his release after the arrest. Didn’t the state Democratic party do any sort of background check on their candidates? This is exactly the kind of scandal that can not only eliminate any chance of beating DeMint but will also resonate through the down-ticket races as well.
Again, assuming this is true, does the party have any way to get Greene off of the ballot? He won an open primary, which unlike conventions, are usually the final word in nominations. I’m sure that South Carolina Democrats are frantically checking the answer to that question right now.

Among Democrat women, who’s support got stronger and stronger, as the charges/accusations against Bill Clinton escalated, that’s a plus.
At least, Democrat women wouldn’t hold a black man (who showed pictures of Alvin Junior) to a different standard than a white man (who whipped out Little Willy in front of a stanger and started playing with himself) would they?
Heh, say a Poly Sci type guess that voters picked this guy because he was listed first on the ballot. He never ran an ad. He never showed up at any events. He literally just filed papers.
Implosion

But the drums and the “boom boom boom,” or something.
Different when he’s actually charged with it. Blumenthal, for example, probably would’ve gotten a lot more heat if had be charged with a crime. And what he did is a crime in some states.

Its merely a replay of their clusterfark in nominating the pawn broker fo Gov in IL. Whatever his name is.
With the Dhimmicrats, their eco-facsism and AGW alarmism isn’t their only similarity to their membership taking on the qualities of a cult/religion. As with this Alvin carachter, if you kneel bfore the throne of progressivism, kiss The One’s ring, say three hail Gaia’s and your absolved of all sins.
What is amazing, as I just noted in the Boxer thread, is the gross incompetence of the RNC that the Dhim’s win any races at all.
I just don’t get it, I certainly hope the group led by Palin, Haley, Fiorina, Christie, West, Angle and whoever else steps up, should they take office that they clean house at the RNC and rid us of the maroons that allowed Dhim’s to get elected in the first place.
On another note, as I predicted 2-3 mo’s ago, it loks like Mitch Daniels outta IN is eyeing making a play for 2012. Keep an eye on this guy, there’s real potential there.

If you want to have some fun, start listing off the number of obscene things that DeMint could do and STILL win this race in a walk.
I’ll refrain from doing so here because I like having my account active, but I’m fairly certain that DeMint could do virtually anything and still get re-elected against this guy.

Strikes me as the similar situation to the Lt. Governor candidate in IL (Scott Lee Cohen). The Dems. basically had to bribe him to get off the ballot. And then he decided to run for Governor as an independent… So there’s nothing they can do about this.
And I doubt that the guy had enough money to file for himself. So yeah.. someone gave him the money. I like the theory about an unconnected rich person.

Nothing against the south, but they retain some archaic laws on thge books that should’ve been purged long ago. In GA for instance, the only legal method of copulation is the missionary position, girl on top, doggy, what have you is still a criminal offense.
but the south has’nt cornred the market on out-dated stupidity, in ID upon release from jail, enen if for just an overnight detox, you’re supposed to be provided a horse and gun.
I have long been of the mind that we should have a Fed law that say’s you can’t make a new law without scrapping an old one. If it still stands “that ignorance before the law is no excuse” then we are all ignorant. Not even the Supremes let alone any other judge in the land could possibly know all the laws. Just not possible, so how is it that they get to hold us to a standard they can’t match?
Jussayin!

I think the screengrab of that Helen Thomas video that was blown up all over the internet was pretty obscene, myself.

vboscaino on June 9, 2010 at 3:12 PM
Its not child porn, or he would be charged with that. So what else justifies 5 years in prison for showing another adult? That is freaking scary.
thphilli on June 9, 2010 at 3:12 PM
You don’t know she was an adult, and you don’t know what the photo was, or how he approached her with it.
It could have been a picture of his own wang.
That is harassment, and indecent exposure if she was offended enough or scared enough to press charges.
Public decency still matters.
