Obama on BP: I want to know “whose ass to kick”

posted at 8:09 pm on June 7, 2010 by Allahpundit

I thought nothing would top “plug the damn hole” as a feeble show of command in the teeth of pure federal impotence, but never underestimate The One.

Full POTUS quote: “I was down there a month ago, before most of these talkin’ heads were even paying attention to the gulf. A month ago I was meeting with fishermen down there, standin’ in the rain talking about what a potential crisis this could be. and I don’t sit around just talking to experts because this is a college seminar, we talk to these folks because they potentially have the best answers, so I know whose ass to kick.”

Nice use of apostrophes by Chuck Todd to show O strainin’ to connect to the common man. His approval rating hasn’t deterioriated over the spill yet, but ABC’s out with a poll today showing that 69 percent rate the feds’ response to the disaster negatively. By comparison, that number was only 62 percent after Katrina. So here’s his attempt at damage control with another two months of this nightmare (at least) still to go, imitating the same sort of bravado that the left used to detest in Bush in hopes that it’ll stop their caterwauling about his dispassion and give them a happy new meme to push. “See? He’s mad. He cares.” It’s completely out of character with his Cool Hand Luke persona and roughly six weeks too late, which means it’s as phony as a three-dollar bill, but so what? This is all about changing the subject from the spill itself to Obama’s engagement with it, and for low-information voters, it’ll do nicely. Three cheers for the cynical scripted soundbite!

I guess when he flew to IL he bought a Stradivarius via Craigslist. I am sick and tired of this crap; the endless talk of impeachment. When can this process start? Do we have to sit it out till November?

Not only that; his term must END. In a democratic, decent kind of way according to the US Constitution-which he has no regards. Oy where’s that British Conservative guy we all like? I want him to rip Obama a good one like he did to the ex-PM in the UK’s Parliament.

Nice use of apostrophes by Chuck Todd to show O strainin’ to connect to the common man.

I was laughing at the same thing: “these talkin’ heads,” “standin’ in the rain.” What a crock.

God forgive me, I was watching Hannity last night, and he had three people on with ideas about how to mitigate the damage of the oil spill. I didn’t understand some tire idea from a young woman genius, but Hannity kept interrupting her. Still, a second guy had two decades of experience cleaning up spills in Saudi Arabia, and he seemed to have a good idea. Finally, there was a guy who suggested hay and a product that his company made, both of which appeared to do a remarkable job of soaking up oil.

Yet these three “crackpots” can’t get taken seriously by BP or the Obama administration. As an observer from the Midwest, neither BP nor Obama is doing anything about the spill except watching the spill spread to the shores of the gulf and now to Florida. Why are they trying some of these ideas?

BuckeyeSam on June 8, 2010 at 8:05 AM

Wrong and stupid on so many levels:
1. He will sooner or later have to reveal whose ass he kicked and what was exactly involved in this ass kicking.

2. Demeaning of the office of the President to use such low-class language. (Imagine if Bush had said it. The press would be screaming, “Low class Cowboy!”

3. The ass kicking Obama uses is advocating violence to solve matters.

4. The BP lawyers must love it. Obama starts a criminal investigation on BP and already he tainted the jury by proclaiming someone is guilty and they need an ass kicking.

5. Sounds like something Joe Biden would say.

Barry, maybe you can use some of that tough talk with our enemies?

PS, you ignored the problem for the better part of a month, maybe you should kick your own ass.

hawkdriver on June 8, 2010 at 9:22 AM

Can we please elect officials that know the laws on the books to be enforced. Also THIS is what happens when you manufacture a crisis to make it worse and it gets out of hand, which I’m convinced happened in the case of the gulf

http://fellowshipofminds.wordpress.com/2010/06/06/impeach-obama-for-gulf-oil-disaster/

Obama has justified his administration’s inaction by seeking shelter in some unnamed law that purportedly makes the oil company – in this case, British Petroleum (BP) — which is responsible for an oil leak also solely responsible for its cleanup.

THAT IS A LIE.

The Oil Pollution Act (OPA) of 1990 gives the president of the United States complete responsibility for immediate action in cleaning up an oil spill. OPA, among other things, amended Section 311 of the federal Clean Water Act. Section 311 specifies that:

(A) If a discharge, or a substantial threat of a discharge, of oil or a hazardous substance from a vessel, offshore facility, or onshore facility is of such a size or character as to be a substantial threat to the public health or welfare of the United States (including but not limited to fish, shellfish, wildlife, other natural resources, and the public and private beaches and shorelines of the United States), the President shall direct all Federal, State, and private actions to remove the discharge or to mitigate or prevent the threat of the discharge.

(B) In carrying out this paragraph, the President may, without regard to any other provision of law governing contracting procedures or employment of personnel by the Federal Government–
(i) remove or arrange for the removal of the discharge, or mitigate or prevent the substantial threat of the discharge; and
(ii) remove and, if necessary, destroy a vessel discharging, or threatening to discharge, by whatever means are available.

A sin of omission is failing to do something good when you know you should. The legal dictionary defines a sin of omission as the “failure to perform an act…where there is a duty to…the public to act (including omitting to take care) or is required by law. Such an omission may give rise to a lawsuit in the same way as a negligent or improper act.”

In Obama’s case, his many many days of deliberate inaction with regard to the BP oil volcano in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico are more than a sin of omission. His inaction is a dereliction of duty, in violation of a federal law: Section 311 of the Clean Water Act.

BP had an accident and have been doing their best to fix it. Obama and his emergency response team are the ones needing the ass kicking. The government doesn’t have the expertise to stop oil leaks but they are supposed to be able to provide the resources for protection and clean up in a timely manner. In this case they seem to have done neither.

Looks like he was talking trash on the B-Ball court. He is such a child. Spike Lee tells him to talk tough and 2 days later he wants to “Kick @ss”.

If Spike tells him to jump off a bridge, do you think Obama will do it?

He appears to be a 14 year old trying to be one of the popular kids. I see this type of behavior all the time.

I watched his speech a month ago from Venice. Unfortunately the only thing I remember him saying was “And this is what they call a drizzle down here” (speaking about the pouring rain). Other than that I don’t remember a thing he said, and I doubt anyone else does. But then remembering the Chants of “Yes we can” keep reverberating as I watch the oil spewing out of the well on video.

Guest1.1 on June 8, 2010 at 10:12 AM

Maybe BP employs a former S.E.A.L. who could be nominated as BP’s representive for this challenge. Hold a press conference and offer meet the POTUS at Madison Square Garden. Get Michael Butler to M.C.

EconomicNeocon on June 8, 2010 at 10:18 AM

Buried in the ass kicking nonsense, is Obama’s idiotic claim/whine that he was down there 30 days ago before the “talking heads” cared about the spill.

Hey, champ, 51-30 = 21. That means you were there 3 weeks after it happened. Nobody thought it was a minor issue after 3 weeks, champ.

I wonder how Brian Williams feels about Obama again implying that he led the news crews down there, not the other way around. Maybe he would say Obama was 180 degrees off.

You have to be able to connect the dots. Read the article labeled Dude? go to the New Scientist article where they can digitize people faces, animate them and get them to “say anything we want”.
The Obama on television isn’t real, it is a digitized version that says whatever is programmed in by the handlers. This is why he does so few interviews where he has to appear in person. And it is only with TOTUS along for support. Without TOTUS he can appear a total buffoon.
The digitized version can thus lie about anything while looking completely innocent. The Manchurian candidate digitized. I think I am on to something here.
