Video: How Obama showed his “singular” focus on the Gulf spill

posted at 11:36 am on June 4, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

For those who read yesterday’s Obamateurism of the Day and followed the links, this won’t be new material, but the new presentation is powerful enough to revisit it. Kevin Kristy did the legwork at PolitiPage, at least up to the holiday weekend. While Obama claimed a “singular” focus on the Deepwater Horizon blowout and oil spill in the Gulf since Day 1, the Singular Sensation spent a lot of time at parties, golf courses, and political fundraisers:

Just to remind people of the unofficial count:

  • Two days of media events (White House Correspondents Dinner and a tête a tête with Bono)
  • Three days of fundraising
  • Four commemorations (graduations, Cinco de Mayo, etc)
  • Six days of vacation
  • Six days of campaigning
  • Six sports events
  • Seven days of golf

In comparison, how many days did Obama spend at the Gulf?  Three, during this span of time, and he’s back again today.

A shortened version should be run on Television.

Maybe some of those Kool-aid drinkers are finally figuring out that his demeanor during the 2008 financial crisis wasn’t “calm and cool”. It was Obama once again voting present.

It’s easy to remain detached from a situation and allow others to do the heavy lifting and political risk-taking when one is running for office with a thin resume. It’s an entirely different matter when you’re the President and the buck stops with you.

I’m glad you’re in charge, Barry. Now give Jindal what he’s asked for to take care of this mess, and go eat your effin waffles/BBQ.

Awww don’t be to rough on the dimwit. After all…he didn’t REALLY run for President, to BE the president. He just wanted to look cool in the pictures, fly in the lap of luxury, hob knob with celebs, and partay!

6 days of vacation, 6 sports events and 7 days of golf?

So, in order for this to actually add up to 6 days of vacation, I guess they all took place on the same 6 days and the extra golf was on a Saturday?

Present!

Dammit Ed, Paul McCartney said give Barry a break.

You would think that someone who plays golf as much he does would actually start to get better at it.

But he “plays” president, too.

Doesn’t get any better at either.

PJ Emeritus on June 4, 2010 at 11:45 AM

Don’t people realize he’s our new royalty?

Royalty shouldn’t be held up to the same standards as mere presidents.

This somehow has to be Bush’s fault anyways…

Big O is headed back down to the Gulf Coast. Maybe this time he’ll get it right:

Director-
“Okay, Barry, your motivation in this scene is that there’s been a huge catastrophe affecting the lives of voters. Show concern, show compassion, and let’s get this done in one. We don’t want to miss more golf next week, do we?
Okay, Let’s do this”

d1carter on June 4, 2010 at 11:47 AM

Obama’s mistake here is to lie and say that the Gulf Oil Spill is his singular focus and that he is working on it every minute. This is not true. We would not want it to be true. He is the President of the United States, and he can’t spend all of his time on any one thing, no matter how serious.

But Obama has to pretend that he’s doing something useful, that he is on top of this thing from Day One. He is too much of a narcissist to just say that he has put his best people on it, he expects them to perform and will hold them accountable, as the President should. He has to say he is doing it all himself.

It is an obvious and insulting lie. He deserves every bit of bad Karma that he is getting as a result of telling it.

portlandon on June 4, 2010 at 11:49 AM

No wonder they’re using golfballs on that hole in the gulf….it was Obama’s idea… He thinks, “heck, if it plugs a hole in the green, it surely can plug a hole in the water traps too…!”

liberal logic. we should be thanking them.

I just spoke to someone in our complex’s office. She said “I am embarrassed I voted for Obama” – due to the oil spill – her words….

Then she went on to say “It was because I didn’t like Palin, I thought she wasn’t smart and didn’t interview well”

I asked her “who’s the “smart one now???”

It was ironic, because previous to this – we were talking about good and bad messaging in marketing and how people are duped…

Odie1941 on June 4, 2010 at 11:53 AM

Celebrity-in-Chief

This guy is in way over his pay grade. Somehow, through a series of quirks and gaffes, he found himself to be our president. He was blindsided by the victory, losiong sight of just how stupid the American electorate can be, and was. I don’t think the speechifier ever believed he would actually win. And now his performance proves that to be true.

It’s like “The Beav” became president and “Eddie” came on board as Chief-of-Staff.

fogw on June 4, 2010 at 11:53 AM

WEEI in Boston played his detailed breakdown on the NBA Finals, Lebron’s future, etc., and contrasted it with his lack of leadership over the spill. They proclaimed him America’s President of Sports rather than President of the Union.

Meanwhile, Eugene Robinson wants to know why BP chief executive Tony Hayward hasn’t been fired.

Hayward’s statements about the effort to plug the well have been consistently unreliable, and it hardly matters whether he’s being deliberately misleading or just overly optimistic

My response to Mr. Robinson:

Why does this statement sound so familiar? Could we compare this with our President’s promises when the stimulus/porkulus bill was passed? Where are the millions of jobs this legislation was supposed to create? How about the now false claim that the healthcare bill would save billions, when now the CBO tells a far different story? Why do politicians who lie still have a job Mr. Robinson?

There is nothing more dangerous than a weak US President who’s love for his own country is questionable. The world is sinking into chaos as a result. Russians invade Georgia. North Korea sinking ships. Turkey provoking Israel. Iran killing it’s own people and continuing its nuclear program. Terror attacks on the US. The World is suddenly a lot less stable.

One sunny day in January, 2013 an old man approached the White House from across Pennsylvania Avenue, where he’d been sitting on a park bench.

He spoke to the U.S. Marine standing guard and said, “I would like to go in and meet with President Obama.” The Marine looked at the man and said, “Sir, Mr. Obama is no longer President and no longer resides here.” The old man said, “Okay”, and walked away.

The following day, the same man approached the White House and said to the same Marine, “I would like to go in and meet with President Obama.” The Marine again told the man, “Sir, as I said yesterday, Mr. Obama is no longer president and no longer resides here.” The man thanked him and, again, just walked away.

The third day, the same man approached the White House and spoke to the very same U.S. Marine, saying “I would like to go in and meet with President Obama.”

The Marine, understandably agitated at this point, looked at the man and said, “Sir, this is the third day in a row you have been here asking to speak to Mr. Obama. I’ve told you already that Mr. Obama is no longer the president and no longer resides here. Don’t you understand?”

The old man looked at the Marine and said, “Oh, I understand. I just love hearing it.” The Marine snapped to attention, saluted, and said, “See you tomorrow, Sir.”
