Ingraham to O’Reilly: This is a spin zone!

posted at 8:48 am on June 4, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

Yeah, it’s on. Laura Ingraham appeared last night on the O’Reilly Factor to discuss the Gulf oil spill, and at first it starts off with both agreeing that Barack Obama is blowing it. When it comes to holding Obama’s team accountable, however, Ingraham can hardly believe her ears when O’Reilly says that he wants to give Janet Napolitano some “slack” because she’s not responsible for the cleanup. Ingraham reminds O’Reilly that Napolitano runs the Department of Homeland Security, which includes FEMA — the agency tasked with the federal response to emergencies such as the Deepwater Horizon blowout. Ingraham calls the show a “spin zone,” and O’Reilly accuses her of blind partisanship (via The Right Scoop):

Who won this exchange? Take the poll:

The two may have shouted over each other at the end of the segment, but they’re still friends; Ingraham will guest-host tonight.

therightscoop on June 4, 2010 at 8:55 AM

Bill O’Reilly is simply far too soft and wussy on the attacks against freedom and liberty taking place at the hands of big brother; big government. Terms such as “let’s give some slack here” are a complete waste of time. Why bring the subject up and waste precious air time if there is nothing to discuss in his opinion.

Big Brother and organizations such as FEMA are a perfect example of why we can’t trust these people to get things done. Waste, waste, waste, and more waste happens with every program government gets their hands around.

Keemo on June 4, 2010 at 8:55 AM

…and then O’Reilly had to take up half the next segment with Krauthammer getting his take on this segment instead of on the topic they were supposed to be dicussing (Charles agreed with Laura, BTW — I suppose Bill will have Juan Williams or Alan Colmbs on tonight to find someone to agree with him).

OK no matter how you phrase it, or what you think, this is Obama’s Katrina, and even some in the MSM are starting to realize it finally. The MSM set the bar in the blame game with Bush and Katrina, and now they have to play by the rules they made. He owns it totally, and he and his team are acting exactly the way I expected. Lawyers sue people, and that is what Obama is and that is why Holder is looking at lawsuits, instead of focusing on fixing the problem first.

Johnnyreb on June 4, 2010 at 8:57 AM

Laura Ingraham won that debate hands down:
I score it–
+1 laura for top level review all positions
+1 laura for failure of leadership
+1 laura for criticism of Salazar and JaNo
+1 laura for criticism of administration for delay and treating it as campaign issue
+1 laura for suggestion of top engineers and agreeing with carville on passion response to spill
-1 BOR for calling laura crazy, for wanting blood in the water (he had no response to her substantive suggestions)
-1 laura for koolaid remark

Score: +4 to -1—-ingraham.

I watched this last night. It was an entertaining segment, but Ingraham easily won this debate. O’Reilly pretty much conceded it too at the end. The only reason Napolitano isn’t getting more heat right now is because Obama and Salazar are the public faces for the Administration.

My favorite bit was when Ingraham asked O’Reilly who in the Administration had done a good job in this crisis and Bill could only come up with…..Jindal. That says it all right there.

JohnGalt23 on June 4, 2010 at 9:06 AM

They aren’t responsible for the clean up, but they are the first response…

The primary purpose of FEMA is to coordinate the response to a disaster that has occurred in the United States and that overwhelms the resources of local and state authorities.

BOR is way off base…FEMA should have been down their immediately to oversee, manage, lead, inform, the response.
Here are some of their past responses:
Hurricane Andrew
Southern Florida Hurricanes
Hurricane Katrina
Buffalo snowstorm
Dumas, Arkansas tornadoes
California wildfires
But they were really skewered for lack of action regarding Katrina…

O’Reilly likes to play devil’s advocate when discussing an issue. I actually think he does a pretty good job at being fair on most topics, but at times it does get infuriating when he pulls his punches.

What was annoying about last night was the way he was cutting Napolitano all that slack when he’s been harshly critical of her in the past. What exactly has she done in the last few months to get her back in his good graces? Was it when she said the border has never been more secure? Or when she criticized the Arizona law without reading it?

d1carter on June 4, 2010 at 9:49 AM

OT/ Perhaps the greatest sign that the political worm has turned on Obama. This a quote pulled from WaPo describing the internal discussions inside the DNC:

“They don’t have the leverage that past White House political operations have had,” said one strategist who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the situation candidly. “They’ve tried to influence these races and nobody’s listening. . . . “

When a wanna-be tyrant can’t get anyone to listen to him, when their threats are deemed hollow, the days of their reign are numbered.

More from WAPo,

“Friday’s jobs report, which forecasters predict will show substantial growth over the past month, is expected to provide the White House with good news about the economy — and give officials something to point at to buttress their argument that their economic policies are working.”

Hmmmm, too bad. That’s not the way it panned out, the jobs # is in and the market is opening 200pts down because the White Houses’s shell game isn’t fooling anyone anymore.

Drudge headline:

MAY: 9.7% UNEMPLOYMENT…
Burst of temporary hiring…
Census Worker Claims Job Numbers Being Inflated…

+430,000 JOBS
+41,000 PRIVATE
MARKETS ROCKED

People are starting to the rudimentary arithmitic, 41K new producers provding a tax base to pay for 389K more non-producers simply won’t work. And as it becomes apparent that this was the formula behind the “jobs saved or created” that just cost us $787B, Lincoln’s admonition about fooling some of the people some of the time begins to come into play.

These have been dark days recently watching disasters in policy both foreign and domestic unfold, but I begin to take heart that we may oust the malignancy that is Obama & his progressive caucus in time to turn the tide. I am more encouraged than I’ve been in a long time, I hope I amnot reading to much into these factors,. But the accumulation of the above and the the unraveling of Sestak/Romanoff with the Blago circus coming to a head, we may not even have to wait till 12 to be rid of Obama and the cancerous progressives.

Have nice day!

I do not always think BOR is on the mark however, in this clip and in many others, I get the impression that it’s a set up. People discredit BOR and Fox as being anti Left so what they say is ineffective.
I believe Bill sets these exchanges up so that the guest’s get to be the more acceptable (or more credible) source of information. It’s highly effective most of the time, at other times, it seems the scripting seems obvious.
