It must be sincere. She’s never betrayed any anti-Israel sentiment before, has she?
Helen Thomas issued the following statement today: “I deeply regret my comments I made last week regarding the Israelis and the Palestinians. They do not reflect my heart-felt belief that peace will come to the Middle East only when all parties recognize the need for mutual respect and tolerance. May that day come soon.”
I’m satisfied. Who among us hasn’t innocently stumbled into a statement of support for ethnic cleansing when we didn’t really mean it? In fact, that might explain Jake Knotts’s slur on Nikki Haley. He meant to say, “I welcome followers of the Sikh faith to South Carolina,” and it came out “f***ing raghead.” Let he who is without sin cast the first stone, my friends. (Just make sure to cast it at a Jew!)

I’m German, Danish, Czech, and French. I hold no loyalty, or allegiance for any of these nations, as I was born in the great United States of American. I want good for all people, but I would never denounce one, for the other, as Helen has. And it seems to me, Helen says what she says, out of loyalty, and allegiance to her parents native land, and the surrounding lands.
Helen, I would think, as an American, your first loyalty, and allegiance would be to America, and as such, support for her allies. If not…why don’t YOU go back to Lebanon!

Israel is hardly a socialist state, but it found itself bending to socialist pressures, just as all democracies have. It’s hard to avoid socialist programs when politicians find they can build loyal coalitions just by giving away “free stuff”.
And Israel has more phony justification than most countries for such free stuff: supporting religious students; supporting the “downtrodden” Islamists, etc.
Yes, Israel needs to clean up its act, and for the same reasons our Congress needs to.

She has no children, or husband. (She was married for 11 years once.) She had a lot of brothers and sisters, but who knows how many are still alive.
In short, there is no one to do it. And the problem is, she’s such an institution she will probably still have her chair at press conferences even after she’s completely senile.
I’m all for honoring the elderly, but if they get to a certain point, it’s time to gently remove them from positions like the one she has. I think that time has come for her.

It’s as if I woke up in some kind of weird alternate universe where antisemitism is casual, up-front, and matter of fact and where people talk about the very real possibility of the destruction of Israel and another Holocaust with the same blase aplomb they use when talking weather or basketball.
Helen Thomas meant what she said, said what she meant, and the scary part is her views are not confined to the neo-nazi fringe, not any more. At one time even the most ardent and outspoken American liberal or European social democrat would balk at publicly opposing Israel’s right to exist but now, with comparisons being made between these blockade running Hamas supporters and freedom riders of the American Civil Rights Era, the masks have come off.
President Obama was photographed showing the soles of his feet while speaking on the phone with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. No one in the Middle East could miss the meaning of that gesture. It is the most blatant form of insult in that part of the world, a gesture of contempt akin to the upraised middle finger in the US.
Yet through it all, an overwhelming percentage of Jewish voters in the United States remain unshakably aligned with the Democratic Party. I can’t follow the logic. It makes no sense.

I emailed her with a time line history chart of the Jews in the area that they now live. To my surprise, she answered. She stated that she knew the history and she also told me that I could not face the truth. I replied to that thanking her for responding then asked her the following question “So if I understand your position you are saying that Moses led the Jews out of bondage in Egypt to Poland and Germany, is that correct?”
