Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:05 am on June 2, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

As Outside the Beltway put it, just imagine if George Bush had said this:

New York Times reporter Jackie Calmes was skeptical: “Can you be sure these oil tar balls are from the oil spill? Because when I used to swim on the Gulf in Texas, I’d get tar balls in my bathing suit all the time.”

Allen and Randolf, the parish president, confirmed that tar balls do wash up at other times, though these, they said, were likely from the spill.

But the president was distracted. “At some point, Jackie, we’ll want to hear more about those tar balls and your bathing suit,” Obama said, as reporters laughed.

Er, no, we really won’t.

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

An on-the-move question for Obama during the 2008 campaign:

Obama: “Hold on a second, sweetie. We’ll hold a press avail…”

In the private sector, Obozo’s comment would be grounds for a sexual harassment lawsuit. In BHO’s LaLaLand environment, not so much.

What a D-Bag.

Living in South Louisiana this spill and the Gov response or lack there of is scary as hell. Our seafood industry is in great danger, add to that the Ones wish to kill off shore drilling now, what will be left for my state? Yes to some we are just the butt end of a lot of jokes, but we do supply almost 62% of seafood to the rest of the country, and our oil production keeps people working in more than one state.

Sorry just getting fed up with all the BS going on with this.

I wonder whose idea it was to bring in the big guns…(James Cameron)…one of Mr. President’s daughters? Seriously, why haven’t we asked for help from experts overseas? They offered. They’ve cleaned up spills before. This is not a dress rehearsal, this is a disaster. !

We see the “Humorous Øbummer.” He is at once dismissive, derisive and condescending. Really, he would fit right in with the trolls that live here at Hot Air.

I think Øbummer has a future, after the presidency, as a troll infiltrating conservative blogs.

Hope and Change for Gulf Oil Crisis

Federal Government Finally Takes Charge of Oil Spill—President Offers Huge Union Contract to SEIU to Collect Mysterious Tar Balls

The newly formed United Brotherhood of Tar Balls, (UBTB), offers a glimmer of hope to ending the oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, starting with the most massive collection of swimming suits in U.S. history. Former SEIU president Andy Sterns promises President Obama that he will arm millions of undocumented workers with swimsuits to collect the pesky tar balls. Sterns also has pledged to every new member of UBTB lifetime pension plans and free registration to the political party of their choice. BP donates two billion to new union, calling it the Tar Ball Eradication Fund.

In related news, Norman Tsu was pardoned yesterday to head up a newly formed Tar Ball Bundling Association, (TBBA). In an effort to help in funding TBBA, Hillary Clinton donated an unused two-piece swim suit to be auctioned off on eBay. Clinton reportedly found the suit among some old law firm papers in a trunk marked White House Furniture, along with a used box of cigars.

To be fair, tar balls do indeed always wash up on Texas beaches.

BUT…to be completely fair, to question whether one particular tar ball comes from the current oil spill misses the point entirely. They’re not going to dust for tar ball prints or something. So what if it isn’t? Does that mitigate the impact of the spill? Should people not be concerned about the spill because other sources of tar balls exist?

James on June 2, 2010 at 12:16 PM

Meanwhile, back at the White House….a jealous Michelle, after hearing her husband make a lame joke about a swimsuit, tosses the cigars and humidor she bought for her dear husband, for fathers day.

capejasmine on June 2, 2010 at 2:39 PM

I saw tar balls on the beach in Pensacola in 1973. Probably Halliburton or Bush behind the whole disaster.

Actually tar balls are not the issue. We have them all along the Florida east coast. They come from ships sunk in WW II, several of which were tankers. The same in the gulf, off the missisppi delta particularily. Chances are in light of how few tar balls there were, that the source was not from the oil leak, but it was all for a photo op and there was no real oil on the beaches, yet anyway. He had to have something to play with as he gave his seasme street lecture to the nation. We have hardly seen the damage from this spill yet, but it will come and it will be a disastor of huge poportions for years to come.

Obama is doing all that he can do in this situation. Its not his fault that he is a narcissist since he was born that way. Unfortunately he should not be president because he was born that way. Narcissist can not accept failure as a option. It always has to be someone else’s fault. Obama’s pychosis clearly shows in the way he handles things. He appoints others to do the job that he should be doing and accepts responsiblity for haveing done it only when it proves him successful. If there is a failure, the responsible party will get the blame, or someone under them if the blame could be shared to include Obama. It is for this reason that you see Obama claiming brillance yet is not confident enough to give a speech without a teleprompter. When he does, it usually is to his detrement. It is for that reason you see him claiming recovery when the unemployment begins to improve, or responisbility when it looked like the well would be plugged and quickly distances himself when he sees failure. It is why he appoints others to shield him from responsiblity. It is why he plays golf, basketball, takes the time to watch all the games and can set up the playoff board. Those are things he feels competent in and sees as safe for him to do. Everything else that he might see as dangerous to his self-perception are done by others he appoints.

We had those jokes too. Tar balls, grape nuts, Mobey Dick. I suspected that is where the name of the group Mobey Grape got its name. Our junior high teachers would ask us why we were not in class, we always said “we don’t have any class”. I bet they thought “thank God they will never be President.
