Quotes of the day
posted at 10:53 pm on June 1, 2010 by Allahpundit
Sorry, but this isn’t “change you can believe in.”…
Obama promised to change Washington’s culture. Instead, his White House counsel justified the White House move by pointing out that past White Houses have done Sestak-type deals, though he offered no examples.
Change indeed.
Charlie Cook, analyzing the current political environment, pointed out in a recent report that, “long-serving Democratic members of Congress identified as having ‘gone Washington’ are especially under threat.” Presumably, the same holds for short-serving Democratic presidents.
***
In times of crisis, you get a public reaction that is incoherence on stilts. On the one hand, most people know that the government is not in the oil business. They don’t want it in the oil business. They know there is nothing a man in Washington can do to plug a hole a mile down in the gulf.
On the other hand, they demand that the president “take control.” They demand that he hold press conferences, show leadership, announce that the buck stops here and do something. They want him to emote and perform the proper theatrical gestures so they can see their emotions enacted on the public stage.
They want to hold him responsible for things they know he doesn’t control. Their reaction is a mixture of disgust, anger, longing and need. It may not make sense. But it doesn’t make sense that the country wants spending cuts and doesn’t want cuts, wants change and doesn’t want change.
***
The centrifugal force exerted on conservative leaders toward the extreme wing of their party is bound to lead to even more magnified rhetoric in the next few years. The contrast between those excessive attacks and Obama’s famous cool will serve him, and the Democrats, well.
Within the overheated conservative bubble there is little room for discussions of serious policy alternatives to deal with America’s problems, reminders that the country is typically drawn to optimistic candidates (like Reagan and Obama) and weighty appeals to the center of the electorate. If Obama is the worst President ever, as conservatives seem to believe, why do they need to say anything more than that to take control of Congress and then get rid of him? But while the conservatives’ ultimate condemnation rallies their core supporters and resonates with some centrist voters, over time it is unlikely to produce a majority against the Administration.
It can’t be pleasant for Obama to be the subject of such attacks. And solving the country’s major problems in a bipartisan fashion will be difficult under these rancorous circumstances. But as long as those trying to beat him are blind to the fact that tens of millions of voting Americans think Obama is doing a fine job, this President has a great ally in his enemies.

K. Powers is less annoying, lately. Great honesty in this article too.
The two gents who wrote the other two articles are as delusional as ever.
Brooks is still blindly in love and Halperin is down right crazy to compare Obama with Reagan’s “optimism” and to actually believe that Obama is seeking bipartisanship.

The idea that Obama sits at the center and the Republicans are far to the right and need to join him is ridiculous. It’s Obama’s far left agenda that has polarized and radicalized so many Republicans. If Obama really were in the center, he’d work with Republicans. Instead, he ignores them as he works to undermine everything great about this country.;

WTF? Obama is optimistic, if by optimistic you mean repeatedly treating the American people like they are too stupid to run their own lives. He is only optimistic about his ability to run your life. If you ask me, it’s a real pessimistic view of the American people.
Contrast that with the Gipper, who had a deep belief in the ability of Americans to run their own lives.
Reagan believed in you, Obama believes in himself.

This quote was translated into English from an article appearing in the Czech Republic as published in the Prager Zeitung of 28 April 2010.
“The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president”.
The fools are us.

If I were Tony Hayward I’d approach the board about filing for bankruptcy in the US and turn resolution of the gulf oil spill over to the President of the United States.
Obama will soon make every personal assurance to whomever needs to hear that BP will not survive this, Tony should just give in to smart power and let little Lord Fauntleroy swim in his own crude, at least as long as it takes to get a cap on damages and the whackos out of the decision process.

I can’t believe anyone thinks of President Obama is positive and sunny. He was as a candidate, but as President he is cranky and vindictive–he strikes out petulantly at all mild criticisms.
People were drawn to him. Then he showed his real self. Now they are waking up to the nightmare they helped create!
And…. I can’t help believe that Bush would’ve figured out how to fix this oil spill! At least he would’ve helped build the berms that would save some of the wet lands!
Come on! That could even be called economic stimulus! Put people to work with their bare hands piling up sand to save the wet lands! Why is that even a hard decision? Save the swamps from the oil!
This is the worst leadership ever! In my opinion Obama is the absolute worst ever! What other President has pushed legislation diametrically opposed to what people want? What other President has had actual communists advising him? What other President has decorated the Christmas tree with pictures of a mass murdering dictator? What other President has the view that all the world’s problems are caused by America? What other President has bowed down to the King of Saudi Arabia? Obama is the worst.
Even Carter can’t compare.

You know what I really want Obama to do?

This situation is so horrible. The Gulf of Mexico is dying! It will never be the same. Ever.
I don’t want anger. I don’t want finger pointing or criminal indictments.
I want my President to love my country. To love the Gulf of Mexico. And to mourn.
To lead us in mourning for our loss. To lead us in Prayer. To ask God for help in dealing with this.
Okay that’s nuts, but really this is so horrible. And it isn’t about Obama it’s about the Gulf of Mexico.
But Obama can hardly be bothered to care.

If it weren’t for the attackers, The One would still be getting “enchanted” questions with His approval at 60 percent or so.
If Crisp and The One do well, it has more to do with long time brainwashing and our lefty media and academics than with cruel critics.

That will be our salvation.
Not in hatred.

But in laughter at the well meaning fool.
The Left hates having their petty beliefs laughed at, and that will kill their movement faster than any other thing on this planet can do, save Yellowstone. When you can say to the supporters of the agenda on the Left – ‘You can’t be serious! Do you know how bad that plan is?’ and follow it with laughter, lots of hearty laughter, then you will be on your way to cleansing yourself and this Nation of this foolishness. Laugh at foolishness. Vote it out office and tell those going in to get rid of all the foolishness put in place… as only fools believe in it and you are no fool.

I must have missed those ‘tens of millions of Americans who think Obama is doing a fine job’, funny thing is with a 42 percent approval rating, the plling organizations are missing them too. And if Obama is doing such a ‘fine job’, why aren’t any of his major domestic policies polling anywhere near fifty percent or more? Curious. Also interesting that these slug pundits didn’t give the same advice to democraps carping on Bush Administration and Republicans in Congress during the last three election cycles. The democraps believed Bush was the worst President ever, but said much more than that. But republicans are supposed to hold their powder, because it’s hard for Obama to deal with such ‘irrational’ criticism (“it can’t be pleasant for Obama…”) Well it was much less pleasant for Pres. Bush to have to deal with the cynical, hyperventilating hatred of the media and their democrap stooges in government, but Bush did with more humor and grace than the current President.
eaglewingz08 on June 2, 2010 at 6:39 AM
Oh please, some of the most deranged and hysterical grandstanding in political history was directed at George W. Bush….. and did it help him? I don’t think so. Of course, Bush also had to deal with people like the Paulbots on the right as well as rightie pundits accusing him of all sorts of silliness as well. From truthers to people accusing him of selling ports to terrorists Bush had it all and how did that help anyone but the Democrats?
So, I am not sure all of this discontent will help Obama now.

Of course the real problems for the left is that they have perpetually sold the American voter on the omnipitence of the federal government -even going so far as to put up a fake messiah with photoshopped halos behind his Mussolini syle raised chin.
Now the same voters, that were dupped, expect results – it matters not who’s to blame or if it can’t be fixed, they told us this man can stop the seas from rising if we elect him. We did and we now expect him to control nature -or he’s fired!

We don’t think the govmint should want to be in the oil business, but I look for them to take over BP toward the middle of this crisis. The pay czar will get involved at some point and ask how much does the ceo make, then the fed will ask if they are under funded. Wait for it.
