Pelosi: We need partial-birth abortions for Jesus, or something
posted at 12:55 pm on June 1, 2010 by Ed Morrissey
What Would Jesus Abort? That should be the question Nancy Pelosi answers after assuring voters that she must craft her public policies to meet with the approval of Jesus Christ when He returns at the end of time. Pelosi must be hoping that she’ll have enough time to figure out an explanation for voting against a ban on partial-birth abortions:
They ask me all the time, ‘What is your favorite this? What is your favorite that? What is your favorite that?’ And one time, ‘What is your favorite word?’ And I said, ‘My favorite word? That is really easy. My favorite word is the Word, is the Word. And that is everything. It says it all for us. And you know the biblical reference, you know the Gospel reference of the Word.
And that Word is, we have to give voice to what that means in terms of public policy that would be in keeping with the values of the Word. The Word. Isn’t it a beautiful word when you think of it? It just covers everything. The Word.
Fill it in with anything you want. But, of course, we know it means: ‘The Word was made flesh and dwelt amongst us.’ And that’s the great mystery of our faith. He will come again. He will come again. So, we have to make sure we’re prepared to answer in this life, or otherwise, as to how we have measured up.
CNS News can hardly believe its own video:
Section 423 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church states: “We believe and confess that Jesus of Nazareth, born a Jew of a daughter of Israel at Bethlehem at the time of King Herod the Great and the emperor Caesar Augustus, a carpenter by trade, who died crucified in Jerusalem under the procurator Pontius Pilate during the reign of the emperor Tiberius, is the eternal Son of God made man. He ‘came from God’, ‘descended from heaven’, and ‘came in the flesh’. For ‘the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; we have beheld his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father … And from his fullness have we all received, grace upon grace.”
After Pope Benedict XVI met privately with Speaker Pelosi in February 2009, the Vatican issued a statement saying: “His Holiness took the opportunity to speak of the requirements of the natural moral law and the Church’s consistent teaching on the dignity of human life from conception to natural death which enjoin all Catholics, and especially legislators, jurists and those responsible for the common good of society, to work in co-operation with all men and women of good will in creating a just system of laws capable of protecting human life at all stages of its development.”
Pelosi’s office did not respond to CNSNews.com’s follow-up questions regarding the speaker’s statement that she seeks to make policy in conformance with the values of the Word made flesh.
When conservatives talk about religious values informing public policy goals, the Left shrieks about the separation of church and state and usually refers to the Right as an American Taliban. Pelosi will get a pass, however, because she uses the religious language to argue for their pet causes. It’s a good idea to capture this moment anyway, for the next time someone argues that “Christianists” are attempting a theocratic takeover of America.
Update: The Anchoress asks people to pray for Pelosi.

Separation of Church and State… to protect the Churches from becoming beholden to the State to follow its edicts. That was the problem with Britain and King George – the prostitution of the Church to the State.

jpmn on June 1, 2010 at 1:08 PM
The Bible also says this: “And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.” Matthew 24:4
The deception theme pops up quite a bit in “The Word” that Nancy refers to and I think it’s quite apt here. Actions speak louder than words and all that.
BakerAllie on June 1, 2010 at 1:08 PM
Abortion aside, if Pelosi sees her salvation has being effected by passing laws to take the wealth of others to do what she sees as the Great Mission then she has quite a bit to worry about. There is no place set in Heaven for one who forces others to help the poor. That command is solely given to the individual conscience.

The sign of true repentance from sin is to give up the worldly advantages that the sin brought. The usurping King Claudius in Hamlet knew this, but could not do it:

On reflection, I think those of us who pray should sincerely pray for this woman whose soul is so lost. Our Lord can redeem anyone who sincerely repents. (I continue to be amazed by that.) Let us pray that the scales will fall from Ms Pelosi’s eyes and that she will show true repentance by giving up worldly power and all its trappings to spend her last years in charitable works.

This is part of a calculate, focus grouped effort of late. Notice recently how many Dhim’s clasp their hands as if in prayer as the go down their talking points recently, Nancy trying to bring Christ into her speeches is just more of the same. The elitist Dhim’s genuinely believe that the R’s have merely employed religion (to some extent true) as a tool to hook gullible simpletons that believe in myths to win political points and cynically are trying to co-opt that effort. They see the religious beleif in god the same as tribal natives beleif in evil spirits, and thus the “bitter clingers” can be easily “bamboozled” into any phony arguement draped in religion. Conservatism is really so far beyond their understanding they think beleivers have been entranced by it as some spell R’s have been casting about for decades.
There have been many R’s who have indeed employed such cynical tactics no doubt, but the collectivists are so detached from reality that they cannot even comprehend that there is a coherent arguement for conservatism, the possibility is beyond their conceptualization. Kind of like a religion really.
Collectivism and religion are far closer to each other than either would like to admit. That is why the two clash so virulently whereever they are forced to co-exist. Both stress faith over evidence, in monotheism god cannot be proven because it is “by faith alone”. In collectivism it is because the dear leader is always infallible. They both continually offer doctrines of service, sacrifice, and penance. For the faithful penance it is for sins against god, for the collectivsis we must be made to endure pre-industrialized life for sins against Gaia. One promises in exchange for sacrifice and service incredible rewards in a life hereafter, the other in a future utopia that is forever just over the horizon.
Ayn Rand encapsulized the similaries in famous qoute:
“It only stands to reason that where there’s sacrifice, there’s someone collecting the sacrificial offerings. Where there’s service, there is someone being served. The man who speaks to you of sacrifice is speaking of slaves and masters, and intends to be the master.”
Archimedes on June 1, 2010 at 1:46 PM
It’s because the Democrats KNOW that Nancy et al. don’t mean a word they say. It just sounds good. On the other hand they KNOW that most Republicans actually DO mean it, and that scares the &$%@* out of them. In their heart of hearts, that still small voice one hears if one listens carefully tells them what they already know, that what they do or support is evil, and that they *will* pay, either now or later. And they can pretend to ignore that voice really says if they give lip service to it.

Hard to believe, but I do know a few folks who claim to be Christian and hold values like this. Basically, they view the Bible as a spiritual buffet from which they can pick and choose what they like and don’t like. These people are really on a self gratification quest where they look for anything, no matter how ridiculous, to support their self serving ideology. They are worshiping at the alter of self and, therefore, can not be trusted to make decisions that are in the best interest of others. They are diametrically opposed to the concept of servant leadership and the idea of public service.
For the rest of us, it is a good lesson in where self worship leads. Best to deal with it early and often in one’s own life.

How about excommunicating her? Is it so difficult to say of this woman, “no, she’s not one of us”?
From my point of view as an outsider I see the Catholic church happily signing on to every tenet of socialism and the welfare state except that they maintain tepid, lip-service opposition to abortion. A position which they have shown has no teeth, and which they will happily ignore in order to fill pews and keep celebrities in their flock.
I think it’s high time somebody in the Catholic leadership took a stand, on something.

I’m certainly not a believer in Catholicism, and I am certainly no friend of that religion; I consider it false, and they, as far as I care, are friends, aiders and abeteters to Obama:
http://catholicadvocate.com/2010/03/30/president-obama-loves-catholics/
http://www.cathnews.com/article.aspx?aeid=9996
However, Pelosi is a shameless scumbag. She is a follower and envoy of one of the ‘false christs’:
“Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am he,’ and, ‘The time is near.’ Do not follow them.
Luke 21:8
Many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am he,’ and will deceive many. At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or, ‘Look, there he is!’ do not believe it. For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and miracles to deceive the elect–if that were possible. So be on your guard; I have told you everything ahead of time.
Mark 13:6; 21-22
I know you shouldn’t judge people on things you can’t possibly know (such as if they believe, or not), but I just can’t believe this woman believes in anything larger than herself. Liberals tend to be liberals first, democrats second, and anything else third or further back. Liberal churches are just that liberal churches; liberal first, church second. Nancy Pelosi is a shameless opportunist, and she’s espousing her ersatz belief in a convenient religion (meaning she knows more about it, than any other more than likely) simply because she believes that it will re-inflate her sagging poll numbers and public image. She’s already a despised person among despised persons (Congress, specifically the House), and, just as Obama won over the Catholics and got their vote, she’s hoping she’ll get the same deal.
Just like Obama, though, she’s a liar.
Just like Obama, her supposed “faith” is completely disingenuous and fraudulent.
She supports the murder of the unborn, and supports killing them in increasingly barbaric and brutal ways. Who knows? Maybe liberals like that kind of thing; ask Narutoboy, he’s a liberal that seems to care about no one but himself, like any other liberal. What little Catholicism has done to call her out on her bullcrap (such as her manufacturing quotes from some book she calls the “Bible”) is always a day late and a dollar short. If they want some legitimacy, the Pope, himself, needs to come out and publicly excommunicate Nancy Pelosi. Reading Catholicism’s claims of what they believe in, Pelosi seems to stand against virtually every tenet of that, evidenced by her actions and legislation. I believe Joe Lieberman was excommunicated from his faith, and that was because of his adherence and advocacy for absolutely un-Godly, evil legislation, and unwaivering support for others that indulged in such practices. I’d most certainly say that Nancy Pelosi’s been doing absolutely the same thing. A world wide religion like Catholicism certainly doesn’t need it’s own intelligence agency to see the things she’s been doing, and hear the lies she’s been spouting about things like the Word she proclaims to love so much.
When Glenn Beck speaks of his faith, I honestly believe that he has it in him; that he really believes and is trying his best to be a Christian and live up to the tenets of Christendom. When Pelosi talks about her so-called love of the Word (and we’ve all heard her word; it’s fraudulent, and has quotes that are in no Bible I’ve ever seen or heard of), I can’t see it as anything other than stagecraft. A photo-op, just like Obama’s posing and preening at the beach during the oil spill. Her staged event, espousing her love for a made-up Bible and her make-believe Jesus Christ is nothing less than stomach-turning.
Virus-X on June 1, 2010 at 2:08 PM
joe_doufu on June 1, 2010 at 2:02 PM
I think she certainly meets the standard for excommunication, but I think there is a reluctance here to do so to political figures, because lets face it, any Democrat who is also “Catholic” would have to be booted out and that would be an extensive list.
NoDonkey on June 1, 2010 at 2:08 PM
Exactly. By refusing to act the first time, and the second time, and the hundredth time a Democrat claimed to be a “Catholic” and voted for abortion, they have dug themselves into a hole where they have to choose between acquiescence or taking a radical and dangerous stand. This is a teachable moment for why they should have acted early and often instead of bending with the political wind.
joe_doufu on June 1, 2010 at 2:17 PM
So I guess Jesus would support infanticide, homosexuality and eugenics if we conclude from what else the Democrats are trying to do. People need to realize that Liberals are seeking to make Liberalism the State religion, and God help us if they ever succeed. Actually, the policies of the Democratic Party will lead to the persecution of Jesus.
Blue Collar Todd on June 1, 2010 at 2:19 PM
Jesus said,
“You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” John 8:44 ESV
Later, James wrote,
“You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder!” James 2:19 ESV
And, of course, William Shakespeare writing in the Merchant of Venice:
“The devil can site scripture for his own purpose! An evil soul producing holy witness is like a villain with a smiling cheek.”

Because of its history, the Catholic Church tries to avoid politics as much as possible though.
Excommunicating elected representatives would be really tricky. Talking about abortion gets the lunatic left into a tizzy, imagine what would happen if they started excommunicating half of the Democrats in Congress.
Not saying I wouldn’t support it, but I think the stance is aimed at a goal larger than direct confrontation.
NoDonkey on June 1, 2010 at 2:23 PM
So Nancy, you are saying that Jesus would have been proud to have supported partial birth abortions…proud to have supported Planned Parenthood and their abortion clinics…heck, even proud to have accepted the Folsom Fair…Pelosi, I know Catholics, and you ma’am are no Catholic.
right2bright on June 1, 2010 at 2:24 PM
Almost all Catholics reject the Catholic Church’s teaching on birth control. It doesn’t require much cynicism to find the birth control hating Catholic Church declaring abortion to be murder a little too convenient. And I have never seen any passage from the Bible that remotely calls abortion murder. (I have heard one attempt to use a quote from Isiah to claim God considers fetuses human persons, but the logic of the claim makes no sense.) I just don’t see the issue with Pelosi’ brand of Catholicism–many more Catholics have faiths like hers than the Pope’s.
And when did the issue of abortion become the most important issue in Christianity anyway?
