Israeli probe: Majority of people on flotilla have jihadist links

posted at 9:02 pm on June 1, 2010 by Allahpundit

Via Gateway Pundit. Remember, the “charity” to which the organizers of the flotilla belong is the Turkish branch of an official U.S.-designated terrorist organization, so that accounts for some of the “jihadist ties” here. Whether there were people aboard who have connections to terrorists above and beyond that one is the question of the moment. Early indications seem to be … yep:

Israel’s investigation has revealed some 100 people infiltrated the peace and humanitarian aid activists making their way to Gaza, with the explicit design to attack Israeli soldiers using cold arms.

Some among that group are believed to have ties with World Jihad groups, mainly al-Qaeda.

The majority of suspects are Turks, but some are Yemenites and Indonesian. One Yemenite Islamist was photographed with a dagger in his belt prior to the raid…

Some of the suspects were found to be carrying large sums of money. Others had Kevlar vests and gas masks; and all were found to be carrying weapons such as knives, metal clubs and slingshots.

As you’ll see in the first clip below, they confiscated a bunch of fine skull-crackin’, flesh-piercin’ weapons from the Emissaries of Peace on deck. What apparently hasn’t been confiscated thus far is any sort of essential humanitarian aid. According to the JPost, everything found on the ships to date (which are still being searched) is already in supply in Gaza. So here’s a krazy kwestion for you, assuming that some of the detained passengers do indeed turn out to be bona fide jihadists: Given that Turkey’s fingerprints are all over the flotilla, and given that their bottom-feeding prime minister is now maxing out on demagoguery by calling this “a turning point in history,” will the Turkish government’s associations with radicals become part of the investigation into Israel’s actions aboard the ship? Since the world’s now on a big fact-finding mission and all, it might be worth finding out whether a full-fledged member of NATO is, to some greater or lesser extent, using jihadist proxies to instigate international crises.

I’m giving you four(!) clips here, the first of the weapons cache recovered from the ship and the other three of various spokesmen and experts explaining what happened. The consensus I’m seeing from Israeli analysts is that, yes, the troops had to do what they had to do to defend themselves but it’s all the IDF’s fault anyway for conceiving such a poorly planned, badly executed operation. There’s truth in that — the more inept they look, the more dangerous things get and the more easily the world is distracted from pressing business — but it smacks of Israelis absolving the other side of their moral agency in this, from the armed and plotting passengers to Turkey’s unbelievable cynicism in cooperating in this charade. Read this hugely depressing piece by Ronen Bergman just posted at the Journal for a gloss on that. Exit quotation:

“It makes no difference what we do, or how careful we are, or how we tackle the matter of the flotilla,” I was told by a very senior military source two days before the operation. “Whatever we do, they’ll all be against us, they’ll condemn us at the U.N., and we’ll be scolded. We might as well at least preserve our national dignity and maintain the blockade of Gaza.” In other words, the war over world opinion is over—and Israel has lost.

If you are going to get this trashed over enforcing a blockade against blockade runners, next time just sink the ships if they resist being boarded. Taking prisoners just means that Hamas will capture an Israeli and demand the release of thousands of Jihadists in trade. If you sink the ship, there will be fewer prisoners to encourage the kidnapping of Israelis to trade for.

I am not a crazed Zionist Pig but our Dear Leader is no mensch!

In some thread here there was some gushing (excuse the word in light of the gulf tragedy) about The One standing with Israel. Specifically there was a lauding of the comparatively mild UN statement with credit given to the administration.

Yes, the WH gang probably is on Israel’s ‘side’ right now. This posture is due to something I’d call expediency. This is the sort of tactic which the lawyer led fire drill could readily adopt since it is realted to panic inside while running around trying to look cool.

Strategically, the government recognizes the near certainty of more mercy missions of ships full of kooks who will redouble their efforts in direct relation to the amount of damage done to Israel. And more fleets will then cause another problem ongoing for the Dems who are already trying to figure out how to run an empire with leadership barely capable of staying out of jail running a corrupt state.

So He wants the lid kept on this.

rob verdi on June 1, 2010 at 9:34 PM

The people on the vessel in question had to know that there was about a 100% chance of being boarded. The fact that they were clubbing Israeli troops from the beginning of the incident shows that they were counting on it.Our soldiers would have responded in the same manner. Helen Keller could see this for what it was.The “activists” were willing to face the consequences knowing that Israel would be deemed the aggressor. Those crazy f**** actually relish the thought of martyrdom.

In other words, the war over world opinion is over—and Israel has lost.

The REALLY depressing thing is that they lost the war for world opinion long before the flotilla disembarked or was even thought of. We might as well face the facts. We live in a world where Israel can’t take reasonable steps to defend itself and the UN takes a leadership role in the on-going effort to destroy it. And the US, instead of calling out the UN and our so-called allies for the unfair and cynical pig pile on a small and vulnerable state, is acting like Israel’s entirely reasonable response is some kind of effing war crime.

Keep weapons from going in? Understandable.
Prevent people from fishing and feeding themselves? Despicable.

Prohibited by Israel:
Canned fruit and dried fruit
Fresh meat
Seeds and nuts
Fishing rods; ropes for fishing
Fabric for clothing
Chicken hatcheries; chickens
Donkeys, horses, goats, cattle
Musical instruments
Newspapers
Wood for construction

While Israel will allow frozen or other perishable forms of food, they are preventing the people from growing their own.

Classic. I couldn’t believe when it he started wondering why the Israelis started shooting if the inspection didn’t turn up any weapons.

BadgerHawk on June 1, 2010 at 10:23 PM

That’s funny, the Roots Fine Dining Restaurant in Gaza doesn’t seem to have such problems

I doubt you have any real idea about what problems any particular restaurant in Gaza is having on a day-to-day basis.

When Israel forcibly evacuated all Jews from the Gaza Strip, it left behind the greenhouses that those Jews had built into a profitable agricultural business. Guess what the Arabs did to the greenhouses as soon as they had an opportunity?

DKCZ on June 1, 2010 at 10:14

What some people did to the greenhouses does not excuse what Israel is doing to the population at large.

chumpThreads on June 1, 2010 at 10:23 PM

CWforFreedom on June 1, 2010 at 10:25 PM

Chumpy the tool. Prove you are not an anti semite. People around the world are murdered by radical muslims. Heck little girls are killed and maimed for just wanting to go to school yet you remain silent— and we both know why–don’t we.

Prove me wrong zombie. you can’t …so you won’t.

CWforFreedom on June 1, 2010 at 10:27 PM

The morons on the boat were even more stupid than I thought. I mean, how dumb do you have to be to go up against the Israeli military with a freakin’ bean flipper?

MikeA on June 1, 2010 at 10:20 PM

You just don’t get it, Mike…
It’s precisely because they went up against the IDF with “bean flippers” that they won. But don’t feel bad. Netanyahu doesn’t get it either.

chumpThreads on June 1, 2010 at 10:27 PM

Harsh blockade?

This is from a year and a half ago when they were emitting the same whineeeeeeeeeee. That is Lauren Conrad, Cherie Blair’s moonbat half-sister.

Blake on June 1, 2010 at 10:11 PM

Oh, I know…. Look at the bare shelves with no food. Look at the emaciated Palestians. Look at the refugee camp surroundings.

Oh, woe!

/sarcasm off

Midas on June 1, 2010 at 10:27 PM

The state of Israel is incredibly small and their population makes up two percent of the middle east. the likes of Hamas, the PLO, IRan and others plan Israel’s demise yet the anti semites have no anger towards those that wish Israel ill.
This is not about right and wrong to them because it was it would be apparent in their writings.

CWforFreedom on June 1, 2010 at 10:30 PM

Why doesn’t anyone ever blame Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, or Egypt for not absorbing these “palestinians?”

Inanemergencydial on June 1, 2010 at 10:30 PM

As if facts matter.

chumpThreads on June 1, 2010 at 10:27 PM

They”won” because they have willing idiots who will always play Israel off as the loser. You are one of those that are willing? Why? When have you EVER supported Israel? When have you EVER slammed the Pals for their actions? You haven’t and again we BOTH know why.

CWforFreedom on June 1, 2010 at 10:32 PM

Did you look at the link provided? (rhetorical question)

The menu looks rather lavish given the restrictions they supposedly suffer under.

Inanemergencydial on June 1, 2010 at 10:30 PM

Heck useful idiots like chumpy cannot even find it in themselves to criticize Egypt for participating in blockades that “hurt” the Pals.

So many lies and distortions brought here by Chumpy.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jacob-shrybman/debunking-the-gaza-seige_b_561387.html

The UN claims there is a siege when it has given $200 million to Gaza following a military operation that left 1,300 dead and wounded among a population of less than 1.5 million, and yet has only given $10 million to Haiti after the natural disaster there claimed the lives of an estimated 230,000. Of course, that is without noting that Haitians have not been attacking an innocent nearby civilian population for nine years.

Hmmmm

CWforFreedom on June 1, 2010 at 10:40 PM
