Obama’s Memorial Day speech in Chicago rained out

posted at 4:32 pm on May 31, 2010 by Allahpundit

Alternate headline: “Terrible week for Obama somehow turns worse.” On any other occasion this would be amusing, but Memorial Day without an address from the C-in-C is a bummer through and through. Three clips for you, then, to make up the difference. The first is The One from this afternoon, caught in the middle of a downpour to rival Noah’s flood. The second is his weekend YouTube address on Memorial Day, which will have to do as a substitute for any remarks today. And the third is a brief clip of Biden pinch-hitting at Arlington. Looks like you missed some beautiful spring weather in Virginia, champ.

I wonder if that’s how he sounded at some rained out ACORN rally circa 1993.

/God forgive me. I DO feel bad for him cause he’s our POTUS but he has done so much damage to so many of us here in the USA that I just can’t help but take jabs. Shame on me.

When some fat girls began singing “It’s Raining Men,” ObaMao knew it was time to exit the center stage, not being too manly and all.

Were the buses at the ceremony provided by SEIU?

Our troops are rained upon, snowed upon, spat upon, crapped upon 1000′s of miles from home, and the leader of the free world can’t take 5 minutes in the rain to commemorate their bravery?

This coward doesn’t know that duty, service and love of country are more than “just words”. Another sad display by the C in C.

My yard is filled with Vets (Navy and Army) and we have one of my Nephews who is serving as a Marine in Afghanistan that just lost his two front teeth.

They all asked that same question. Why didn’t he throw off that umbrella, throw away the microphone and take out a battery operated bullhorn and say what he needed to say?

/lots of disappointment at the pool, but the flags are still hanging and lots of wonderful shirts, hats, pins and coins and stories being shared. And steak. Because they deserve it.

This may be the one and only Obama-bashing post I won’t participate in. Memorial Day isn’t about him, and the families of the fallen who were there to hear our CnC speak were no doubt disappointed, and that is indeed a shame.

I would only add that it’s nothing but a reminder that neither he, or anyone else, can stop the oceans from rising or lightning from striking; that nature’s power is awesome and CO2 emissions are like spitting in the ocean.

When did people become such p*ssies about rain? Even football games get delayed or cancelled because of it. Yeah, i know, there’s lightning, but there was lightning thirty years ago too and people didn’t wet themselves out of fear and stop everything they were doing because of some rain. I’ve seen old clips of rock bands playing out in the rain, you’re telling me a bunch of old hippies are braver than people today? Sheesh

You know what, clearbluesky, I bet you’d be the first one on here criticizing Obama if someone had been struck by lightening during his speech. My guess it would go something like this…

The Ego-In-Chief put hundreds of people in danger so he could pretend to appreciate our troops. Conditions were CLEARLY dangerous, yet he went on so he could “look tough” by standing in the rain. Plus, he needed some good sound bites for his reelection campaign. This man’s death is on his shoulders.

In the weeks following 9/11 the leftards came out and accused GWB of personally attacking the towers to increase his poll #’s that were already above 65%. When decisions were made, and Congress debated and came to agreement that we should go to war, based on well founded intelligence (or what was presented by foreign sources) and presented to Congress, the vote was taken and, we went. And Americans had trouble with blood letting, despite the fact that the blood letting of 3000 people on our soil was taken without another thought, not to mention the families that were forever changed.

Then came Katrina. And Lord did we hear all about how GWB himself unplugged the dyke, he dismantled the levy’s and then lo and behold we heard all about how GWB blew up the WTC with his own hands.

Step off. As bad as I feel for Obama’s really horrible, really unbelievably really bad week? GWB took 8 years of your sh*t so I feel OK when I tell you to step off and smell your own party’s garbage can. Now it’s being thrown at your self made self proclaimed mess-iah. Eat it.

Kingjester and all, don’t feel sorry for Obama being confined indoors Sunday, because he wasn’t. According to news reports he spent two hours Sunday morning at a private gym owned by Michelle’s trainer. Sunday night they went to the home of Valerie Jarrett’s mother to celebrate the graduation of Valerie’s daughter from Harvard Law School.

I’m torn about what happened today. The families planned and waited to hear Obama and I’m sure they were disappointed. Too bad nobody thought of plan B and used a high school auditorium or something. Although it wouldn’t have been at the cemetary it would have allowed the familes and the fallen to be honored. On the other hand, Obama’s speech most likely would have been another campaign speech with “I” this, “I” that and comparisons of Obama to Lincoln.

I think Biden won this round. He appeared more presidential and spoke more from the heart than from TOTUS.

I think we are being sent a message from the Divine: Here in San Diego we had a Tea Party in February of this year during a rare downpour of rain. A tsunami from Chile threatened to land on our harbor during the Tea Party. As the Tea Party began, the rain stopped and the tsunami subsided.

Compare and contrast this to what just happened to “The Once”. Hey, didn’t he say that with his election, the seas were suppose to subside or something?

Doesn’t anyone pay attention to weather forecasts?

The US should keep Veterans Day as Veterans Day and re-name Memorial Day as Remembrance Day.

The problem with Obama’s original plan to squeeze in a visit to a military cemetery while vacationing is that the vacation seems the primary objective while the visit seems obligatory. I would have preferred the CinC to make a visit to Arlington as the main focus of his day, because in doing so, he would have engaged in his own service, even if paltry compared to those over whose cold bodies he speaks. That he couldn’t even manage to speak in the rain bears witness to the dedication in which he takes his job.

It was obviously raining too hard for him to read his teleprompter.

Slowburn on June 1, 2010 at 2:52 AM

How many rounds of golf has he played in the rain this year?

So many times I think to myself I cannot despise this man any more than I already do. Then he does something to move the meter just a little more.

angryed on June 1, 2010 at 7:15 AM

Even God is getting sick of hearing President Toonces flap his trap.

VelvetElvis on June 1, 2010 at 7:18 AM

The crowd’s faux silver bling began to tarnish in the rain, hair extensions were coming unglued, it was a ghetto mess.

And it came to pass that when the boy king returned to his home to revel with the people who had helped him steal the crown, that a great storm came upon them all and the lord said,”Just plug the damned pie hole”

This serial liar ought to be “a little concerned about lightning” on Memorial Day.

angryed: How many rounds of golf has he played in the rain this year?

Just one too few… he still needs to plug that final hole.

Terp Mole on June 1, 2010 at 7:45 AM

“A little bit of rain doesn’t hurt anybody, but we don’t want anybody struck by lightning.”

Translation: Sorry, folks. Can’t give this speech. It’s raining too hard to read the teleprompter.

If I had known this was the type of president I was getting, I would have voted for Nader for sure.

Tom_Shipley on May 31, 2010 at 7:25 PM

Yet, you’ll vote Obama in 2012.

Guaranteed.

John Deaux on June 1, 2010 at 8:05 AM

Listen to his speech again, starting at the 30 second mark.

Wow, is he actually trying to “fix” his gaffe at last years Memorial Day ceremony when he got Veteran’s Day/Memorial Day mixed up?

Remember when he saw a few men/women in the crowd who we’re here to remember.

Wow, a whole year later and he feels the need to remind US what the difference between Veteran’s Day and Memorial Day when in reality it was HIM who completely forgot the difference between the two holidays.

How dare it rain on the President’s Parade, the Head of NOAA should be polishing his resume.

I think The One’s storied position in His HLS class was like Miss Congeniality and He didn’t do much after that.

Can we at least get an HLS editor as POTUS next time? Even if they are mostly ugly, boring and white.

I watched all three clips. I like what VP Biden said. Well done sir.

mechkiller_k on June 1, 2010 at 9:57 AM

Drudge headline ” The gods are angry”. One strategic lightening bolt hurled by an angry god could have saved the United States two more years of misery and embarrassment by this inept fool. He quickly realized it and tucked his tail and ran for cover. Maybe the gods will get another shot.
