Rush is right, says … Chris Matthews?

posted at 9:28 am on May 29, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

Newsbusters captures this surprising moment from last night’s Hardball, in which we see just how much of the tingle has run out of Chris Matthews’ leg. Matthews praises Rush Limbaugh for his Bill Clinton impersonation, but that’s not what Matthews says Rush got right. Rush notes that when it came to picking dealmakers, Barack Obama really knew what he was doing — and Matthews apparently agrees:

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: Let`s take a look at Rush — I have to do this — Rush Limbaugh today impersonating Bill Clinton and assessing the situation. Let`s listen to Rushbo.

ANDREA MITCHELL: Oh dear!

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

RUSH LIMBAUGH, RADIO TALK SHOW HOST: I`m going to kiss your (EXPLETIVE DELETED) if you kiss my (EXPLETIVE DELETED). I`ll make sure that you — if you come groveling to me, I`ll be happy to help you out here. Now look at what has happened here, they go to Bill Clinton. He`s famous for getting people jobs. Monica Lewinsky offered a job at Revlon. She was offered a job at the United Nations. She didn`t take any of them. But they`ve got Bill Clinton. Isn`t it great, folks, that they found a guy who they know will commit perjury to carry the water here?

(END VIDEO CLIP)

MATTHEWS: Well sometimes even he can get it right. That was pretty good lampooning, I`ve got to say.

Clinton may not be able to close the sale, but he has a well-established flexibility on honesty … apparently, just what Obama wanted in a buffer. Having Matthews acknowledge the truth of that on MS-NBC demonstrates just how disillusioned and disenchanted Matthews has become, at least temporarily.

Rush *does* do a fantastic Clinton impersonation. I’ve worked on my own Clinton impersonation, but I’m really impersonating Rush impersonating Clinton (or “the Big Me,” as you have so wonderfully called him).

I can do without less Chris Matthews on anything. When did he become a political barometer for Conservatives? One early day he is trashing his Zero and then that night slobbering that “Did you plug da hole yet, Daddy?” is the most brilliant piece from a presidential news conference he’s ever seen in his lifetime. So he agrees with Rush one time – now back to spitting on him on a daily basis for any ratings.

Watching Joe Sestak on tv should be a case study in behavioral analysis on what to watch for when someone is telling a lie. His words, nuances, body language all screamed LIAR.

Obama’s administration really is transparent. Transparent in the fact that it doesn’t take one very long to see what motivates each and every action they take. As to being transparent with regard to the truth? That’s a different story.

Marcus on May 29, 2010 at 9:34 AM

It is a conservative barometer in the sense that as these Obama cheerleaders come out of their hypnotic trance, it reassures us that they and not we were (are) not the delusional ones politically.

I thought the same thing. He had an opportunity to actually tell the truth but like all of the garbage in DC his carreer is far more important than his country.

repvoter on May 29, 2010 at 9:55 AM

First, I don’t think Mr. Matthews is on friendly enough terms with Mr. Limbaugh to call him Rushbo. Although he did leave out the El./

Second, how insulting is to Mr. Clinton, a “successful” two term president, to be contacted by The Won for help on this particular problem. Especially by a man who treated his wife in a very underhanded manner during the primaries.

More popcorn.

They know Obama’s a liar. Even Matthews knows this.
It’s that they won’t do anything about the issue other than leave it as a stain on his record.

Rush forecasted the unemployment brought on by Obama better than the “pretend economists” did.
Rush was more accurate in forecasting the number of hurricanes last year than was NOAA

Now Obama says it won’t happen. Obama was looking for an out.

I was watching Chris Matthews fawn all over the Presidents speech down in Louisiana yesterday. Paraphrasing Matthews slobbering all over the President’s statement about the buck stops with him, and he takes all responsibility. Matthews: I don’t know another President who has respond this way and so early – it’s unprecedented LOL!

I think it’s been over a month since 11 people died on an oil platform out in the middle of the gulf….so Matthews never read any history books, and doesn’t know where the phrase the Buck stops with me started? Harry Truman FYI Chris Matthews “The One” wasn’t the first to use the phrase – the buck stops with me, not by a long shot.

Dr Evil on May 29, 2010 at 10:05 AM

What Matthews is now realizing, along with many other leftists, is that the Obama agenda is also going to bring harm to themselves, as well as to their loved ones. Nobody will escape this evil if left to unchecked.

Hey, as much disdain as I have for Chrissy and his type, I welcome their help with stopping this evil if these people truly are on board.

There you go, ed, ascribing real human characteristics and the possibility of good intentions to these people that you aspire to emulate. matthews has always known how despicable clinton is just as he has always known how despicable that barry is. despicable is comprised of strengths they admire on the left, that make matthews tingle. he may have never said it in front of a microphone but castro and chavez make him tingle also. matthews is just pissed barry is such a bungler. Anyone professional politician, pundit or journalist that proudly puts a “D” behind thier names is not a good person, by definition, they cannot be. They are lying, deceitful, anti-Americans.

vcferlita on May 29, 2010 at 10:10 AM

when contacted by Obama to try and cover this up, Clinton had exactly TWO questions:

(1) What’s your offer?
(2) Where’s the script?

We won’t know what the offer was for some time.

We now know the script:
…We’ll claim YOU called Sestak, talked for a about 60 seconds and mumbled something about a “non-paying” job. Sestak refused and you both hung up. Then you simply refuse to comment and we wait for the press to get tired: a long weekend oughta do it!

Justrand on May 29, 2010 at 10:10 AM

I might add this: Several black members of an association I belong to (all likely voted for Obama) are now calling him a sell-out… They seem to believe that Obama is a puppet for the white Progressives who run the world, and that Obama could care less about the welfare of the black family.

All I could think when hearing this was “DUH.”

Of course not, he’s their guy, and they’ll prop him up no matter what, with a few slaps about the head here and there to try to prove their journalistic creds. Rush has always cautioned his listeners not to be impressed when the MSM might briefly get something right, because on balance it doesn’t mean a damn thing. They are who they are, they’re members of a club, and ostracism for full-on liberal heresy is not an option.

(And Rush has always does the best imitation of Clintoon, hands-down.)

Nichevo on May 29, 2010 at 10:20 AM

Obama is a pauper compared to Clinton. Clinton is the most talented liar in the history of the presidency.

He’s a bum but a talented SOB.

Obama is a transparent fruad, however, he’s black and is everything the media wanted in a PC president and has already written the narrative of him being the greatest president since Lincoln.
They will let no fact get in the way of the Obama presidential bios that are already written.

rickyricardo on May 29, 2010 at 10:24 AM

I think you should focus your attention on railing Obama for not increasing oversight on off shore drilling during his first year in office even though if had tried to do so you would have called him a one-man communist sleeper cell trying to destroy all that’s good about America.

This is FREE ADVERTISEMENT for the Rush Limbaugh show. And now Rush (generous to a fault, as all conservatives are) will repay it 50 times over.

casel21 on May 29, 2010 at 11:04 AM

The difference is being honest.

And actually, the difference between what happened in 1981 and what’s happening now is that then the democrats weren’t so blindly partisan that they’d try to impeach Reagan if he had the wrong tie color/flag pin lapel placement combination.

Obama has been honest. They kind of skirted the issue merely saying nothing inappropriate happened for a while because this is a rather common thing to happen in politics. The difference now is Republicans (or most of them at least) have lost their minds and think every thing Obama does is grounds for impeachment.

Tom_Shipley on May 29, 2010 at 11:06 AM

Since so many libs form their opinions of things by virtue of being told what to think by others, I would not be surprised if that was the first time Andrea Mitchell has actually heard Limbaugh speak.

Saltysam on May 29, 2010 at 11:27 AM

I don’t know. Bored I guess. No one will go shopping with me.

Cindy Munford on May 29, 2010 at 11:26 AM

What?

This is the best yard sale day of the year!

Saltysam on May 29, 2010 at 11:29 AM

What has he not been honest about? Please be specific.

Tom_Shipley on May 29, 2010 at 11:26 AM

What has he been honest about, now please be honest…

doriangrey on May 29, 2010 at 11:31 AM

Yup, with half his brain tied behind his back, just to make it fair.

I can’t do yard sales. Everything I am attracted to is the same stuff I gave Salvation Army last week. I was going to do some serious economy boosting.

Oh dear, that could be a problem, give it to the Salvation Army on Monday… buy it back again on Sunday… Rinse and repeat…rinse and repeat… rinse and repeat… ;)

Tom_Shipley on May 29, 2010 at 11:26 AM

Okay, you aren’t being serious now unless you count three months of “I am checking on it” and “I’ve answered this already” honesty. I guess you might mean Mr. Obama specifically but then he would have had to actually take questions from reporters in order to have a question to answer. I am terribly sorry that you are finding out the hard way that looking competent and being competent are two vastly different things.

Cindy Munford on May 29, 2010 at 11:36 AM

What was that old saying, “THE COVERUP WAS WORSE THAN THE CRIME?”

Cindy Munford on May 29, 2010 at 11:32 AM

Cutting federal spending, reducing the size and scope of government, and slashing taxes across the board?

Wow, you rock!

Saltysam on May 29, 2010 at 11:37 AM

doriangrey on May 29, 2010 at 11:35 AM

At least I am aware of my problem. I have a friend who can find crap, mix it with some other crap that she has found and turn it into a masterpiece. Me? Not so much.

Cindy Munford on May 29, 2010 at 11:38 AM

Wow, you rock!

Saltysam on May 29, 2010 at 11:37 AM

I would if I could. I think I was planning on working on the GDP today. Is that right? But don’t worry I will keep the consumer confidence index low if anyone asks.

Cindy Munford on May 29, 2010 at 11:41 AM

you aren’t being serious now

Cindy Munford on May 29, 2010 at 11:36 AM

The folks that backed Nixon because they thought he was doing it to save the country were at least being honest..

…it was the ones that could not believe that Nixon was guilty that were the laughing stock.

Take it easy on the one sailor Shipley of fools, at least he’s good for a few chuckles…

…you said you were bored.

Cindy Munford on May 29, 2010 at 11:36 AM

The one thing I will agree with is that they should have just state what happened right away instead of pulling the “nothing inappropriate happened” line and leaving it at that.

But that’s not being untruthful or dishonest. That’s just not directly and clearly stating what happened.

Now they have done that and it’s a whole lot of nothing. Less than what Reagan did back in ’81 when he offered a PAID position to a candidate to drop out of a race.

Again, if Obama lied about anything, what was that lie?

Not really. The difference now is the same thing that Clinton got in trouble for. BHO is so used to getting away with these things in Chicago politics because they are all corrupt. Now he is on a bigger stage where the stakes are much higher he is starting to get caught and can’t figure out that what he did is against the law – he never had to worry about it before because it was just how things were done.
Clinton had the same problem moving from Arkansas to Washington. The corruption he always got away with in his home state as normal practice he was now getting caught for.
