Live stream: Stand with Arizona Rally in Tempe

posted at 8:00 pm on May 29, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

As part of the effort to “buycott” Arizona to show solidarity with the state after its passage of a new enforcement law on immigration and border control, Tea Party activists will hold a Stand with Arizona Rally in Tempe, AZ. As Yahoo News reports, the effort is intended to both counter a protest against SB1070 being held in Phoenix and to encourage people to travel to Arizona to spend money to push back against the boycott endorsed by cities and organizations opposed to the new law (via Nick D’Orazio):

This weekend, a tea-party-backed Stand With Arizona rally will be held to support the law, while Alto Arizona is holding a Festival for Human Rights to protest the law. Stand With Arizona leaders are encouraging participants to spend freely over the weekend to boost Arizona revenue, while the Alto Arizona movement generally backs economic sanctions against the state.

Phillip Dennis, the Texas coordinator for the Tea Party Patriots, expects the Stand With Arizona rally to attract at least 10,000 visitors from around the country who will stay in hotels, eat at restaurants, and generally try to stimulate the economy. The rally is a part of the “buycott” movement that tries to support Arizona businesses and counter boycotts through tourism.

Meanwhile, Sylvia Herrera, an organizer of the Alto Arizona protest, says economic sanctions are the only way to get the Arizona government to listen to objections to the law. But she also isn’t preaching austerity to the 20,000 visitors her group expects — though she says many out-of-state demonstrators will be staying at the homes of other protesters instead of in hotels.”The people that are coming a lot of times can’t necessarily afford to stay in hotels,” she said. “They’re coming on limited budgets.”

The organizers of the Stand with Arizona Rally will live-stream the event starting at 8:45 ET, with the event kicking off at 9 pm ET. You can watch it here, and use the thread for comments about the rally and the topic.

Go away little boy. This is for the grown ups. We really don’t need or want to hear from anybody named after a juvenile comic book character:

Naruto Shippuden

The Village Hidden in the Leaves is home to the stealthiest ninja in the land. But twelve years earlier, a fearsome Nine-tailed Fox terrorized the village before it was subdued and its spirit sealed within the body of a baby boy — Naruto Uzumaki!

Go to your room.

Because, after all, wanting immigration laws actually enforced is, like, you know, national socialist.

Geez, can we get a better quality of troll? At least try to come up with an intellectual argument for why it makes sense that citizens of states should pay for education and health care for millions of ILLEGAL aliens, particularly here in the border states. Or try to argue for the reason a border is needed at all if there is no enforcement of immigration laws.

Yet meanwhile, another story hits the news about an iPhone assembly line worker killing themselves in China because they couldn’t face another day in the factory from hell….and despite an almost constant stream of these stories for over a year now, have we seen ONE attempt by liberals to boycott their beloved trendy Apple products? La Raza isn’t a “front” organization. They openly admit they want to take over most of the western U.S. Not to mention, an “organization” called “The Race” is by definition racist. As are most lefties.

As for the SPLC, they have been a hugely profitable enterprise. The racism equivalent of “big oil”. Since their profits have been shrinking lately, they’ve got to stir up trouble.

They used to be able to get Jesse Jackson to help, but I understand there’s been some infighting. Maybe you, and Race Card, and Narutoboy could come here and help. If y’all could peel yourself out of the basement and borrow plane fare, you might have some fun.

Squiggy on May 30, 2010 at 8:41 AM

I am a staunch supporter of the Arizona law. However, it has been stated above and in other blogs, that illegal aliens have no rights. That is flat wrong, and if you are an American, you can’t disagree! Real Americans know that All men are created equal. They are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among those are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Those are rights you don’t lose if you don’t happen to be born in this country, because the Creator gave them, not our government. You don’t lose them if you are here illegally. What you dont have, if you are here illegally, is access to a whole spectrum of legislated civil and legal rights.

Mexico and mexicans are a lot more fascist than the US if the definition of fascism is a union of corporate wealth and power with that of the state. The swastika appears to my untrained eye to be a post modern depiction of the German War Eagle. It’s a war eagle drawn as an intersection of lines. The eagle faces east. What is the predominate symbol present on the Mexican flag? The war eagle. What is the form of governance practiced in Mexico where corporate wealth and power directly conspire with the state?

Friggin whiner illegal supporters.

They have these things in PA called DUI checkpoints which they put up on weekends. If you are driving and hit one, you must stop, and are guilty until proven innocent. Must produce “papers” on demand (you license, registration) and are at the complete will of the officer. Is that any different? It actually much worse IMHO.

Anytime you are stopped by the police you must produce “papers”. These open borders morons have been brainwashed to think they are entitled to the riches of America without following the rules of America. I believe its half Mexico pawning off its poor because its a complete mess, half socialist/marxist leaders using illegal immigration as an issue to destroy America, and half lefties being ignorant fools who dont care about the facts, just what they are told to think.

Its time for liberals to shut up. They took a George Bush’s mess and decided the way to fix it was to burn down the house. Well now, crap is on fire and they the left just keeps pointing to Bush going…”but he made a mess”.

Time to put the adults back in charge. Liberal policy fails every single time….every single time…..i will say it again….every single time. How is that hard to comprehend.

Study Calvin Coolidge, he did in 1 term what FDR couldnt in 4. That is fact. Im just so tired of having an argument we have already won. Multiple times.

You have to have more faith then any right wing clinger to believe that progressive policy could ever work. Its your religion and its as dangerous as radical islam.

And thats the bottom line…..

The Arizona Law was sponsored by Russell Pearce. He is a retired law enforcement officer who has been shot in the line of duty. His son Sean Pearce, a Maricopa County Sheriff, is one of several officers shot by an illegal alien while attempting to serve a search warrant. I think they have pretty good insight into why this law is needed. Furthermore, Russell Pearce has Hispanic grandchildren. The law is not about race – it’s about ILLEGAL being a CRIME.

One of the co-founders with the San Diego Tea Party group, Southern California Tax Revolt Coalition, had this report:

“STAND WITH ARIZONA” RALLY REPORT.

She indicated that the counter-protest event earlier that day had a good portion of their participants bussed in.

We attended the Stand with Arizona rally last night in Tempe. 7,000 attended and it was a great night. It was to end at 9pm but ran on until nearly 10:30. The Incredible Hulk even attended! The support from across the country was amazing.

Sheriff Joe told us a supporter of the law marched at the protest earlier and encountered so much hostility, while carrying an American flag, that he had to have a police escort. Sheriff Joe also said the protestors were sleeping in a warehouse, with sleeping bags, to keep from paying for hotels in AZ.

Every protestor we saw interviewed on local news had come from another state. Many were bussed in and it looked like the majority of marchers were not prepared for the heat – not that it was hot by AZ standards – but at least 20 were treated for heat related problems.

The Stand with Arizona folks came to support Arizona and we are most grateful.
