Video: Chris Christie vs. the teachers union — director’s cut
posted at 8:46 pm on May 27, 2010 by Allahpundit
You’ve already seen the key part, but just keeeeeep watching. It’s worth it. His latest approval rating’s at 44/42, but like Ace says, that ain’t bad for a Republican governor in a blue state during a nasty recession who spends his days railing against spending and unions and insta-vetoing tax hikes on millionaires. While also churning out the dirtiest, most gratifying “common sense porn” on the market, of course.
Who’s winning this ideological war?
Three of five voters, 60 percent, continue to say the state should hold the line on spending even if many programs are reduced, while just a quarter, 23 percent, say the state should raise taxes if necessary and continue to support state programs…
Similarly, 61 percent say it’s a good idea to raise the retirement age for public employees to 65 years of age from 62, while 33 percent disagree, and public employees split again 45 to 51 percent.
By a two-to-one margin, 64 percent to 31 percent, voters say it’s a good idea to ask school teachers not to take a pay increase for the coming year, and public employee households agree, 57 to 36 percent.
He claims that his budgets for the next two years won’t require any new taxes or significant further cuts, so his approval has nowhere to go but up. Exit question: Is it time for a Chris Christie office webcam?

Ya’ll have no idea how much I needed to read what you wrote about my Governor! Thank you!

Cristie, please don’t have an affair or do something stupid. Big things are in store for the big dog.

I love this guy. Straight shooter yet cuddly like a teddy bear.
EarthToZoey on May 28, 2010 at 12:10 AM
that teacher is ignorant, better give her tenure
TheAudacityofNOPE on May 28, 2010 at 1:28 AM
What a country!
(Hey, when do we hear pundits talk about their fear of these angry people at townhalls?)
PattyJ on May 28, 2010 at 1:46 AM
If Christie ends up on a national ticket, I’ll vote for him.
Slowburn on May 28, 2010 at 4:18 AM
So what else has yet to come to light regarding his exchange with “I luvs to teach?” Christie improves his standing with each new increment.
ya2daup on May 28, 2010 at 4:56 AM
If anything, dearie, it sounds like you’re being overcompensated.

“We do it because we LOVE it.. but you’re not PAYING ME ENOUGH!!11!1!!11!!11eleven1”
Time to restock the irony meters in isle 12, she just blew out every single on within a 50 mile radius..

Christie is quite the straight-shooter. When he said “That’s why your union has no credibility. Stupid … statements … like … that.”, man that was priceless. What could she say to rebutt? Nothing. Just go cower in the corner.

I struggle to keep my leg from tingling, whenever this guy speaks…
MNHawk on May 28, 2010 at 7:48 AM
Let me get this straight. This woman works 184 days (36.8 weeks)in a year. This means she gets 15.2 weeks off every year. By her own admission she is paid $69,000. ($83,000 what she claims she should get paid – $14,000 what she claims she is “shorted” every year). From this we can conclude, assuming she works 8 hours a day for 184 days and is paid a yearly salary of $69,000, that she is paid $46.875 an hour. This wage is higher than the average worker in the state. $69,000 a year with 15.2 weeks off every year is not bad at all. Also, if she truly only does it because she “loves it”, than she should sit down and shut up!

Boy, those angry people at that town hall could be dangerous. I’ll bet there were Nazi signs and stuff. J-No better issue a report.
That guy Christie is great!
mr.blacksheep on May 28, 2010 at 7:57 AM
I thought I read somewhere (maybe even here at HA) that she actually does make $83k.
mr.blacksheep on May 28, 2010 at 7:58 AM
I’ll be in my bunk.
A very LARGE AND IN CHARGE bunk.

The union doesn’t give a rrriiip about New Jersey!
forest on May 28, 2010 at 8:06 AM
Did she just say she ONLY made 84k? I think the previous link said she made over 80k. I know the cost of living in New Jersey is higher but I would love to make that much money,… ANYWHERE.
I have many teacher friends but they seems to turn into zombies when the union gets their hold on them. Wage freeze, paying 1 1/2% on your health care premium and NOBODY loses a job? Maybe you don’t like it but in the era of cuts I would say you are coming out fairly well. Teacher’s unions are killing our school systems.
closetgop on May 28, 2010 at 8:12 AM
To insult the Union in Jersey? What, does he want concrete shoes?

I heart Chris Christie
NoFanofLibs on May 28, 2010 at 8:23 AM
Again teachers give themselves a bad name and reputation. These are among some of the highest paid teachers in the country and cannot willingly pitch in and go without for a year? First those questionable ‘professionals’ in Central Falls and now these. Teachers..when did you stop being educators and become union puppets?
jeanie on May 28, 2010 at 8:25 AM
Christie is the “unObama”.
RobCon on May 28, 2010 at 8:38 AM
“Teachers do it because they love it!”…NOW GIVE ME MORE MONEY!
For working only nine months a year plus paid holidays and all extra benefits including job security, teachers make good money.
76United on May 28, 2010 at 8:58 AM
I love that sweet fat man
Vyce on May 28, 2010 at 9:04 AM
..I was reading ernesto’s comments as well and could not figure them out. I mean, it was like that old SNL skit about the androgynous fellow employee. Virtually everything said was/is ambiguous.
At least you had the — er, “Christies” — to speak up.
The War Planner on May 28, 2010 at 9:46 AM
I want him to move to Illinois!
74impala on May 28, 2010 at 10:04 AM
Great job Gov. Christie. The Union demand pay increases without any corresponding gains in productivity is an unbalanced equation.
The teacher obviously slept through several of her classes on economics and claims she must be paid for her experience. When she submitted her resume or filled out the application she was asked to list her qualifications and was hired based on her qualifications which are based on experience so there goes her argument. Next question.
MSGTAS on May 28, 2010 at 11:03 AM
She actually makes $86K!!
Unbelievable. Check out the other salaries too!
PattyJ on May 28, 2010 at 11:21 AM
WOW, Christie is the real deal. Is there any way we clone and spread him around. e.g., send a Christie clone to California to straighten Awnuld’s mess out!
byteshredder on May 28, 2010 at 12:22 PM
I don’t buy the part where she complains about not being paid for her education. First of all, you don’t need a masters to become a teacher so she decided to earn that degree on her own with no guarantee of being compensated for it.
Second, she’s either lying or ignorant of her own contract. I have many immediate family members that are teachers and administrators in NJ and they all received increases in their salary after they earned their masters degrees. In fact, many teachers wait until they are close to retirement to get the degree because their pension is based on the last 3 years of their salary. So by bumping up their salary for those years they also get to reap the benefits of their increased pension for the remainder of their lives.
AZ_Mike on May 28, 2010 at 1:07 PM
Yes, you commenters who heard, somewhere, that she actually makes more than the $83,000 that she wishes she made — it’s true:

The only thing that would make these clips better is if he had a box of donuts he was eating while he was destroying these people.
