Open Thread: Obama presser

posted at 12:15 pm on May 27, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

After 309 days, Barack Obama will finally venture out to face the national media in an open press conference today at 12:45 ET.  The topic will be the Gulf oil spill, and the reporters will certainly have plenty to ask about the federal government’s response to it.  That doesn’t mean that they will stick to just that one topic, however.   This is why the White House has shielded Obama from these events — as well as the disastrous fallout from his off-the-cuff response to the arrest of his friend Henry “Skip” Gates at the last press conference.

In honor of the singular nature these days of a Presidential presser (and not even in prime time!), I’ll open up a thread.  Let’s try to guess who will have “acted stupidly” this time around, shall we?  No fair picking BP, either.

An insufferable ass is an insufferable ass, of course, of course
And no one can talk sense to an insufferable ass of course
And especially, of course, if the insufferable ass is the famous Barack Obama

Go right to the source and ask the insufferable ass
He’ll give you the answer that deceivers will endorse
He’s always on a dissemblers course
Talk to Barack Obama

Barack Obama just yakkity yaks a streak and wastes your time of day
Does any sane person even believe anymore a single thing he has to say?

An insufferable ass is an insufferable ass, of course, of course
And this one’ll talk in circles til his voice is hoarse
You never heard of a talking insufferable ass?

Well listen to this

He is Barack Obama

As Obama was walking away from the podium he was overheard saying, “There. Can I go on vacation now?”

Mark1971 on May 27, 2010 at 2:21 PM

“Let’s face it this has been the toughest year and a half since any year and a half since the 1930s,” Obama said.

Really, Mr. Tough Guy? This has been tougher than what W faced in 2001-02 with 9/11 and Enron, or what Bush 41 faced in 1990-91 with Iraq, or what Reagan faced in 1981-82 against Brezhnev and trying to fix the Carter economy?

Even some Democrats have had a much tougher year and a half–like JFK in 1961-62 with the Cuban missile crisis, or FDR in 1942-43 after Pearl Harbor. But the Big O wouldn’t remember that, because history began on August 4, 1961 somewhere in Hawaii, although nobody knows where.

Steve Z on May 27, 2010 at 2:23 PM

His comment “I am the President of the United States and I don’t approve boycotts — or not approve” shows that he supports boycotts against AZ.

Obama said he allocated border $$$ for “prosecutors” when they prosecute cases. Is this to be used for prosecution of illegal immigrants or against AZ?

GrannySunni on May 27, 2010 at 2:24 PM

Now that we know that Obama’s daughters have more stones than the entire White House press corp (excluding Major Garrett), can we start feeding them questions to ask, while wearing a wire?

Malia: “Daddy, WTF is going on with this Sestak mess? And why don’t you shut your pie-hole on Arizona’s immigration statute–I’ve already called ICE about that mother whose daughter Mommy talked to about not having pappers. And if illegal aliens can enter our country and stay, can I get into the movie theater without paying?”

Based on yesterdays Science Technology Committee testimony by Gene Cernan, Neil Armstrong et al., we need to get building more Shuttle Tanks and extend Shuttle until we have a replacement. Its currently a 2 year restart to get tanks made again ince they took the equipment apart but it can be done and Shuttle can keep fling. Shuttle is overall less than 30% of its wear. We can still be in Manned Space, Hubble will be fixable even still, the moon is still an option, we can still perfect things this close to earth using the moon and not lose the people we currently have. The Testimony is compelling. I ask those who extended Hubbles like by 5-15 more years to consider extending Shuttle until Constellation can be completed and we can keep our Space program on track. We have a unique capability and 50 years of learning toward perfection.

A fried of mine caught OBAMA’S BIG OIL FAIL

“My job right now is just to make sure everybody in the Gulf understands: This is what I wake up to in the morning, and this is what I go to bed at night thinking about. The spill.”

Yet when pressed about the resignation of Director Elizabeth Birnbaum of Minerals Management Services, Obama said:

“I found out about her resignation today. I don’t know the circumstances under which this occurred”

The statement sounds pretty disconnected by itself, but when you factor in what is rumored through White House aides, the picture becomes even more damning:

On the story of Obama’s daughter asking, Daddy, did you plug the hole yet:

One other thing I probably should tell you, because if I don’t they’ll probably be saying this about me, too. We did get something, a gift, after the election. A man down in Texas heard Pat on the radio mention the fact that our two youngsters would like to have a dog. And believe it or not, the day before we left on this campaign trip we got a message from Union Station in Baltimore, saying they had a package for us. We went down to get it. You know what it was? It was a little cocker spaniel dog, in a crate that he had sent all the way from Texas, black and white, spotted, and our little girl Tricia, the six year old, named it Checkers. And you know, the kids, like all kids, love the dog, and I just want to say this, right now, that regardless of what they say about it, we’re gonna keep it.
