Obama’s counterterror advisor: We’re not at war with “jihadists”

posted at 6:11 pm on May 27, 2010 by Allahpundit

The Foxies are airing a truncated version of this showcasing the part where Brennan says “jihad is a legitimate tenet of Islam,” but this longer version, via the Right Scoop, is truer to his point. There’s actually nothing here you haven’t heard a thousand times before in other guises. The U.S. wants to limit Al Qaeda’s recruiting pool to whatever extent possible so it emphasizes a distinction between “false Muslims” who blow things up and “real Muslims” who don’t. In so doing, it has to reconcile two goals: (1) convincing impressionable young members of the ummah that we don’t hate their faith and (2) addressing the fact that, according to the Koran, jihad is a legitimate tenet of Islam. The obvious rhetorical move? Arguing that “jihad” refers only to a peaceful internal spiritual struggle etc etc and that anyone who reads it a tad more aggressively not only doesn’t know what he’s talking about but is actually offending the faith. For the same reason, you sometimes hear Middle Eastern pols refer to terrorists as “takfiris” rather than “jihadis.” The former is pejorative while the latter isn’t.

Again: These are all standard Bush-era diplo-talking points, and they’ll remain standard talking points under President Palin or Romney or Rubio or whoever for the simple reason that the U.S. isn’t about to ask a billion Muslims to renounce the Koran over the repulsive idea of holy war. The only thing that’s somewhat unusual here is his use of the word “legitimate” to describe jihad. I think he means legitimate according to Muslims, not in the abstract sense, but this guy’s enough of a pandering tool to make me wonder. Not only does he occasionally refer to Jerusalem by its Palestinian revanchist name “al-Quds,” he’s also the one who recently advocated reaching out to, er, “moderate elements” of Hezbollah. Imagine how surprised they’ll be when they find out they’ve misunderstood what “jihad” means.

Does it really matter? With mosques going up near ground that was destroyed, in the name of Islam, and our borders being left wide open, so terrorists can just waltz in, and get a big howdy from the welcome wagon….we might as well bow down, and accept our fate, or prepare for our beheadings.

Jihad has the connotation of violence, whether it should or not. This guy shouldn’t be calling that a legitimate tenant or saying we’re not at war with jihadists.

How have Obama’s speeches to the Muslim world worked out? Oh, right, the number of attempted terror attacks are on the rise. Appeasement and hand-holding hasn’t worked.

Could you imagine if Patton had said :”We’re not a war with the Nazis. They’re a legitimate arm of the German Government.”

What a fun war Obama and his Falstaffian advisors are fighting. A war without “terrorists”. A war which turns a blind eye to Muslim fanatics building an A-bomb. A war in which American soldiers will be forced to guard their backsides (quite literally as Obama proposes an influx of homosexuals within their midsts) and a war where soldiers are told to risk their own lives by being “politically correct” and not “dissing” the enemy who is straining at the leash to kill each and every one of them. Finally the people who have decided to annihilate us are “legitimate”. No wonder liberals voted to OK a mosque at the WTC site.

Bull. George Bush gave Islam an ultimatum. You are either with us or against us. Either you renounce Jihad/violence from Muslims who hijack Islam and kill in the name of it, or you condone it.

If anything, the Obama Administrations weakness grows Jihad and anti-American sentiment with his stupid Cairo speeches and pandering to Islam. Obama’s constant bashing of Israel only emboldens the Jihadists.

the U.S. isn’t about to ask a billion Muslims to renounce the Koran over the repulsive idea of holy war.

The billion part makes it more difficult, but remember the Shinto Directive? There is a line between legitimate religious doctrine and harmful social propaganda. Some times it takes a couple of well placed nuclear explosions to demonstrate the difference to the faithful.

The U.S. wants to limit Al Qaeda’s recruiting pool to whatever extent possible so it emphasizes a distinction between “false Muslims” who blow things up and “real Muslims” who don’t.

Is there really a difference? In light of the silence from too many Muslims in our country about the attacks on our country, I’m convinced that they’re privately cheering on their overseas brethren.

What a lousy four years. I hope those who voted for Obama merely because of his race or because they didn’t scrutizine him carefully are happy.

joeindc44 on May 27, 2010 at 7:11 PM

So if you or I overhear some bearded young men discussing carrying out a jihad at Time Square or the Capital building, no sweat… this is a legitimate tenet of Islam. Move along. If the NSC taps communications between Americans and Pakistanis discussing jihad on some airplane flights, move along this is just a blessed religious devotional. If a military officer has someone under his command, say a psychiatrist for example, talking about jihad being a necessary response to certain actions of the US Military, rest assured that is just legitimate peaceful Islam in action.

Uhn, that’s not what you meant to say? Oh, so watch out for guys talking about jihad and violence, but realize that they are not really talking about jihad but really takfir and if they claim to be Muslims they are actually not real Muslims but ignorant people who have fooled themselves into thinking that they follow Muhammad. So watch our for fake Muslims talking about jihad that really isn’t jihad. Got it. All clear now.

rockmom on May 27, 2010 at 9:21 PM

Problem is, it’s the real Muslims who are blowing up things, and the fake ones who aren’t. We can play this game of “let’s pretend”, in order to make things easier for us, but when we’ve accommodated the Muslims to the point of their becoming a political force, the real faith will begin coming out of the closet, and the joke will be on us.

It doesn’t take a genius to see this, only one who has taken even a cursory look at history. Even a community organizer can get it, should he want to.

I understand not wanting to engage in a 2 billion Christian vs. 1 billion Muslim war. But you have to deal with reality.

I wish George W. Bush had asked for a Declaration of War right after September 11, 2001. He’d have gotten it, and then this traitorous administration could have been tried, en masse, for consorting with the Islamist enemy.

We’re not at war with “jihadists”

Yeah, but they are at war with us. Morons.

This is a huge problem and, of course, it has passed entirely under the radar of the MSM.

The notion that the chief counterterrorism advisor to the President insists on the legitimacy of jihad in spite of the fact that there have been 3 jihadi attacks against us in the last 6 months.

Each time, the administration assures us, within 30 minutes of the attack, that we should not jump to the conclusion that the attack is of Muslim origin, only to have to backtrack shortly thereafter.

To say that Obama and Brennan are simply obtuse to the jihad threat misses the mark, because they know exactly the threat that jihad continues to pose against our country, but they are trying to deceive us into thinking to the contrary.

This is a fraud and is utterly transparent, and voters will subsequently acknowledge the duplicity at the polls in November, 2010 and 2012.

Obama is dutifully following the script of Jimmy Carter and he will drive his party into the ground.

The Obama brand is already close to being toxic.

More nonsense like this will hasten and augment his party’s demise.

This man is dangerously stupid – the kind that doesn’t seek out or investigate for the truth about Islam, the kind that Obama likes to have on his team.

“The overwhelming majority of early authorities, citing the relevant passages in the Qu’ran, the commentaries, and the traditions of the Prophet, discuss jihad in military terms.” – Bernard Lewis: “The Crisis of Islam” (pg. 31).

Those who know nothing of Islam pretend that Islam counsels against war. Those [who say this] are witless. Islam says: Kill all the unbelievers just as they would kill you all! Does this mean that Muslims should sit back until they are devoured by [the unbelievers]? Islam says: Kill them, put them to the sword and scatter [their armies]…. Islam says: Whatever good there is exists thanks to the sword and in the shadow of the sword! People cannot be made obedient except with the sword! The sword is the key to Paradise, which can be opened only for the Holy Warriors! There are hundreds of other [Quran] psalms and Hadiths [sayings of the Prophet] urging Muslims to value war and to fight. Does all this mean that Islam is a religion that prevents men from waging war? I spit upon those foolish souls who make such a claim”
