Bad news: Chris Matthews’s tingle finally ends

posted at 6:48 pm on May 27, 2010 by Allahpundit

I heard about this earlier and dismissed it. But now that I’ve watched and seen the hurt in his eyes when he says “idiotic cerebral meritocracy,” I fear something’s died here that can never be rekindled. We’ve been tracking this romance practically since day one of Hot Air: The early flirtations in 2007 after The One declared his candidacy; the leg palpitations in 2008 when the campaign kicked into gear and love bloomed; the joyful consummation when he took office and began to govern; and now, as it must to all relationships, comes the disillusion. Or maybe the romantic analogy is inapt. Maybe … this would be better.

I’m comforted, at least, to know that he’s backed off his suggestion that Obama nationalize the oil industry. The new suggestion? Strong-arming America’s oil companies into sending their supertankers into the gulf to vacuum up the crude. Is that feasible, though? Hmmmmm.

Blowback

The little blue pill will get his leg tingle back to pre-2010 levels.

“idiotic cerebral meritocracy,” hahahahahaha, that’s a phrase I intend to use in the future.

Infatuations don’t last forever.

Then we realize how ugly and annoying the person we “love” is.

“idiotic cerebral meritocracy,”

And yet, with the use of the word “cerebral” he still assumes these are the smart guys.

WitchDoctor on May 27, 2010 at 6:57 PM

Chrissy is almost as outrageously outraged as Shep. Shep, somehow, is more annoying in his indignance.

So sorry BadgeHawk.

…this president is not acting like commander-in-chief…

Took long enough to notice, the rest of us figured this out on inauguration day.

Tommy_G on May 27, 2010 at 6:58 PM

Yea, I guess if he wanted to keep a shred of credibility (or dignity) he realized he was going to have to become just as outraged at Mr. President as all of us have been for over a year now. Better late than never, Chrissy, although the damage has already been done. You should have paid attention to the signs!

AUINSC on May 27, 2010 at 7:00 PM

heh, andrea looked aghast at crissie`s ranting. although he makes some excellent points it just doesnt seem right for lucid thought to be coming from matthews` mouth, It`s sorta like hearing a Pastor or Rabbi utter a four letter word or something…weird.

NY Conservative on May 27, 2010 at 7:00 PM

I’m not buying it. Wait for it! This is a prelude to “I should have had more faith — He really is the ONE.” — a chastened but more devoted Chrissy

rebuzz on May 27, 2010 at 7:01 PM

Uh, wow.

My only complaint is the line about “I don’t sense it’s war time conditions at all” since it hints that Tingle might want the default administration response to be turn every crisis into an opportunity. Other than that, wow.

LastRick on May 27, 2010 at 7:01 PM

Damn! You know, when Fat Bastard stops kissing Obama’s rear end and starts being critical, he actually makes a whole lot of sense. The supertanker idea is something Obama has the power to put together. Why the hell isn’t he doing it?

Aw, whatsamatta, pendejo? You just figured out The One just isn’t that into you or whatever it is you happen to care about, Chrissy? There’s always Bill Clinton, y’know.

You know when you’ve lost Chrissy and the World Socialist Web Site that there is a problem.

Federal documents show that the Department of the Interior’s Minerals Management Service (MMS) gave BP a “categorical exclusion” on April 6, 2009 to commence drilling with Deepwater Horizon even though it had not produced the impact study required by a law known as the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The report would have included probable ecological consequences in the event of a spill.

Andrea Mitchell looks more stoic than usual. I guess to a Liberal, an environmental disaster of this magnitude is as important an event as 9/11. So I can see how the libs are feeling completely let down by Obama.

Lets compare:

George Bush Disaster response : “I can hear you. The rest of the world hears you. And the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon.”

Obama Disaster response: “Just plug the damned hole. I’m going on vacation.”

The oil is not thick enough and another thing is what oil company or U.S. flagged supertankers? I am not aware of any except some small VLCC’s on the West Coast which cannot get through the Panama Canal.

I’m not sure anyone knows what a supertanker is, or who owns them in these blogs. It ain’t the U.S. and there are already laws against using foreign flagged tankers. Louisiana cannot use its own seabed to build its own berms because of the Fed regulatory agencies, so do you think any of the unions are going to let foreign flagged supertankers here?

Why does the media say that our Navy does not have the technology to go that deep? In 1960, the Bathyscaphe Trieste went down to 35,797 ft. The Navy has submersibles used for submarine rescue. Hughes had the Glomar Explorer that it built in 1974 to recover a russian submarine for the CIA.

The US Navy could assist if their commander and chief gave a damn.

awesome, really.

obama has failed miserably.

those of on the right knew this would happen so we’re not shocked.

chrissy is shocked, saddened disappointed pissed and — yes: it’s opened his eyes.

but maybe not.

the effects of this spill will linger.

there will be a major attack here.

the economy is not rebounding despite the porkulus.

obamacare will kill jobs.

agw is bunk.

all these things will take their toll this year.

and folks like chrissy – while they might not vote gop yet – sure will probably stay home in november!

that’s what i take away from this.

add to that the fact that blacks won’t vote this november in the same huge % they voted in 2008 (without obama on the ticket) and what we get is a huge win for the gop.

biggest turnover ever.

kurtzz3 on May 27, 2010 at 7:38 PM

Not to nitpick Kurt, but I would say it’s one thing to go deep, another to be able to actually perform any tasks at that depth. But what the feds could have been doing since day one is enlisting private enterprise (read that shrimpers, fishermen, and un-employed oil workers) in preparing to keep that slick off the shoreline. They could have been quick to grab every bit of boom and absorbent from AZ, TX, CA, and AK along with hiring the people who know how to effectively use those materials and get them in the fight. Of course it would have cut into fund raising and other quality time.

JusDreamin on May 27, 2010 at 7:47 PM

Sure, but Chu is going to paint all our roofs white and then we won’t need oil.

PattyJ on May 27, 2010 at 7:49 PM

I agree that it’s a disaster, and I agree that, once again, Obama is asleep at the switch. His day-late-and-dollar-short half-assed efforts of today are nothing more than his sleepy-eyed ‘what happened’ excuses.

However, Hissy Chrissy needs to sit back and STFU. The federal government’s biggest problem under the Obama Regime is the failure to allow the free market to operate without undue chains and restraints. All this ‘boot on the neck of BP’ crap has been tremendously helpful, hasn’t it. So helpful, in fact, now we’ve got the weakling-in-chief trying to claim responsibility for the hard work of private enterprise (BP). The government has the responsibility to assist, but isn’t necessarily obligated to take over. What should be going on is that this should be the BP and Jindal Show, with LA calling the shots with BP and getting the full backing of the federal government. However, let’s not forget the regime’s history on states determining their own destiny. This garbage of Hissy Chrissy saying Obama should martial the entirety of Big Oil and command them to help BP is utter stupidity. For one, they’re private enterprise, too. If they don’t want to do something or participate in something that they had nothing to do with (like this oil gusher; look at the picture, because that’s not a spill, it’s a geyser), they should have every right to say “F.U.” If they are told they’re going to be promptly and justly compensated for their efforts, or just volunteer, that’s completely different. If this idiotic spirit is such a great idea, where’s Hissy Chrissy spreading the word on Obama’s Gestapo? Where’s Hissy Chrissy in talking about the nearly daily revelations about the consequences of ObamaCare? Maybe Congress should martial MSNBC and press them into service.

The only thing I can give Hissy Chrissy any credit on is the simple fact that he’s criticizing his Messiah and his unholy apostles, and seemingly genuine in his criticism. Guys like James “Me Precious” Carville only seem motivated by self-interest (since he lives in that state; I’ll bet if it was happening in New Jersey, he probably couldn’t be reached for comment).

He is more upset that Obama will suffer politically than he is that he hasn’t done anything. That’s what this is about. You know Matthews has been watching this unfold yelling to no one in particular, “what the f*&k is he doing? Doesn’t he know the Republicans are going to tear him apart for this? He has to do something…ANYTHING!”

Again, nothing to do with actually taking care of the problem and everything to do with the political fall out. Matthews has shown time and time again his principles are all political.
