Haley’s accuser releases texts from her campaign manager

posted at 4:49 pm on May 26, 2010 by Allahpundit

Read ‘em here. Some of the texts are from an AP reporter who was chasing the rumor and a bunch more are from a Gresham Barrett supporter who’s torn about spreading the story. But as far as I know, only the ones between Folks and Haley’s campaign manager, Tim Pearson, have been verified.

There’s no smoking gun. Barrett’s supporter pretty clearly thinks the rumor is true but the most damning thing from Pearson is “I’m telling you man, we keep this under wraps and nh is going to win,” which could simply mean that he wants to kill off a baseless but damaging distraction. In fact, Pearson goes on to say later about possible “proof” emerging: “I know desperation is the mother of all invention – but I feel like whatever they come up with will be manufactured – and transparently so.” (On the other hand, Folks mentions a picture taken last year and Pearson doesn’t challenge him about it.) The bad news? Haley’s campaign obviously did view Folks as sympathetic to their cause — at one point Pearson says, “Hang in there. We are gonna win this thing man.” — which means Folks either did a hell of a job deceiving them or he really was on their side and didn’t want to come forward about this.

If he was always on their side, though, what’s with the creepy video he produced last year that’s got the stalker alarm sounding at Ace and Red State? (Credit Verum Serum for rediscovering it.) And what’s with this?

Folks said the proof exists in e-mails and texts between him and Haley that he and his attorneys are pulling together now. “Nikki says it’s categorically false. The problem with that is it’s categorically true,” Folks said in a phone interview Tuesday.

“There will be a very aggressive effort mounted to obtain all of the data that will corroborate what I’ve said.”

Folks, Sanford’s former communications director, said he admitted to the relationship on his blog because he heard that media outlets were working on the story. He said he also thought it was likely that others had evidence of the relationship.

“I did it because my wife was about to read it in another (media) outlet,” Folks said, adding he is not working for any rival campaign nor was he paid to make the admission.

So the media might have been about to break a story that he, when he was single, hooked up with a married woman, and rather than have a private chat with his wife and lie low in hopes that no one would publish anything — remember, even Barrett’s supporter seemed queasy — he decided to beam it out to the Internet. And then, when Haley’s campaign got angry, he downshifted into “aggrieved d-bag” mode, rescinding his vow not to talk about this further, lawyering up, and making an “aggressive effort” to pull together evidence that might destroy Haley. Which not only prolongs the story, no doubt to his wife’s delight, but makes him seem so scummy that Haley will end up looking like a victim here even if it’s all true. Someone should adopt this plotline for a movie with the twist ending being that the Folks character is actually in cahoots with the campaign, blunting the force of the about-to-be-revealed scandal by making himself look like such an A-hole that the lying candidate seems sympathetic by comparison. I’d see it.

Make sure you read those Ace and Red State posts I linked, incidentally. Ace has a detail about Folks’s track record in “selectively editing” e-mail exchanges to make himself look better. And Red State’s heard some rumors too; look for Erick Erickson’s parting thought. Here’s the video Verum Serum found.

“I’m telling you man, we keep this under wraps and nh is going to win,”

So the campaign manager for Nikki Haley is talking to the guy who slept with Nikki Haley, and in the middle of a conversation about said affair, the campaign manager refers to her by her initials, rather than just saying “she”, as if there might be some confusion about who they’re talking about?

I call bulls**t.

At this point, it kind of reminds me of this:

(From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_Mary_Ray )

Margaret Mary Ray first made the news in 1988, when she was arrested for driving Letterman’s Porsche, stolen from his driveway, with her 3-year-old son. She claimed she was Letterman’s wife and that her son was their child. Over the next several years, she was arrested a total of eight times on trespassing and other counts. She left cookies and an empty whiskey bottle in the foyer of Letterman’s Connecticut home, and left books and letters in his driveway. At one point, he found her sleeping on his tennis court. One local police officer claimed he had dealt with Ray so often, they were on a first-name basis. She was eventually sent to Niantic State Prison for 10 months for harassing Letterman.

Or he was an ally of hers but changed to an enemy when he was rebuffed in personal advances on her or requests to be a paid staffer or something. This is likely a vengance play on his part because he wanted her or wanted to be on her team and she wasn’t having any of it. So he got pissed and decided to burn her to the ground. That’s my theory for now.

dczombie on May 26, 2010 at 5:10 PM

The blogger claiming to have had an affair with South Carolina gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley has posted a series of text messages between himself and Haley’s campaign manager that appear to show the two men colluding about how to handle the forthcoming scandal.

I wont even go into the fact “colluding” is a defined legal term, which they improperly use here… but all of these texts prove are a campaign manager – speaking loosly to someone else concerning a scandal, who created the so-called scandal himself.

Now think. If you are a campaign manager – and are texting to the very guy who apparently slept with your candidate you are working for… would you respond so vague and cavalier… or even text with him?

These texts apparently happened earlier in the month, before the scumbag “laser beamed” it to the internet… which tells me there is a set up here.

Speak vaguely about a “scandal” based on rumor you got “out there” (the bogus newsletter / newspaper who was “going to run the story), get the manager to make a mano y mano comment (remember he thought this guy was a friend, ally) – capture it, then go public that it was really “you who did it”

If Folks had anything in his possession to prove it – he would have originally posted it, because it was under his personal email and phone carrier accounts – he has (if it exists) and controls the content release.

These bogus texts hurt him, not help in , regardless of what FTS News says (who keep reminding us its their “FOUNDING EDITOR”) and dopey MSM outlets who choose to belive it “helps his case”

In the face of blistering criticism from Haley supporters, Folks has argued that he had been supporting Haley in the governor’s race and keeping her campaign “in the loop” about reporters and political rivals looking into the alleged affair.

Thanks for supporting my case Folks… this dude isnt too bright.

Again – if I was a supporter who had an affair with the candidate I support – you either a) come clean – then disappear or b)deny it till the day you die.

The meme “I was saving her from the scandal about to come” of which he created – or “knew” was about him in the first place – you dont do what this idiot did.

As Ace has hammered – you also dont claim to save your wife, by disclosing an “affair” you so-called had , while single.

Notice his platitudes rest in “supported her campaign”, “someones going to investigate a scandal” “keeping you informed – which led to the text messages” and zero about any proof.

MadisonConservative on May 26, 2010 at 4:53 PM

Yeah. Something about this does not add up. Wes hates Nikki and can destroy her campaign but is having a crisis of conscience, not just about Haley but about the Stalker too. In addition to that, Wes knows the Stalker well enough to send him text messages.

The Stalker is supposedly worried about it leaking, but is in direct contact with Wes who wants to spread information and pictures. Wes offers not to release the story but he doesn’t take it. Why? Also, the Stalker is in contact with the manager AND in contact with the guy who wants to release the information. That just strikes me as odd. If someone is about to destroy your family, why are you sending them text messages?

Also, the manager is VERY dismissive of the story. Why? If it’s true, why doesn’t he care? Also this seems like something they’ve been trying to get on her for over a year and nothing has happened.

I also think there are missing texts.

May 20 from 7:32-7:44 all the messages are from the manager. The very next message from the manager says: “I hear ya man”. Well, what did he hear? We don’t know because there is no text message from the Stalker prior to that.

I think the Stalker made up the story. Tried to feed it to the press through Wes. Wes couldn’t do it, so the Stalker decided do it himself under the guise that he cares about his family.

BS
