Barney Frank: Where’s Charles Djou’s birth certificate?
posted at 3:35 pm on May 26, 2010 by Allahpundit
No Hawaiian is above suspicion, my friends.
Tongue firmly in cheek, Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) on Tuesday afternoon called on reporters to demand to see the birth certificate of new Rep. Charles Djou (R-Hawaii).
As Djou (pictured here) was being sworn into office, Frank walked the hallway of the Speaker’s Lobby off the House floor calling on the media to “do your job” and review Djou’s papers.
I’m a Birther critic in good standing but I dig Tom Maguire’s reply to Frank: Djou should authorize Hawaii to release his long-form birth certificate, just to show how quickly and painlessly it can be done. Not in a million years will that happen — there’s no sense in gratuitously antagonizing Obama fans back in his home district, where he’ll have have a tough time getting reelected even under favorable circumstances — but I like the idea of Djou ambushing Frank during some press availability in the Capitol hallway. Just toss him the folder, hold up a finger, and say, “One week.”
Here’s the man himself in action this morning on FNC. He’s up again for election in November, of course, and if he survives that he’ll be facing armageddon with Obama at the top of the ticket in 2012. But there’s reason to Hope for no Change: According to Michael Barone, Hawaii has never voted out a congressional incumbent. Ever.

Bwahahahha!! Do your job!? Hahahah. They haven’t done their job in 50 years. They also may have not yet received their orders from the Democratic Party on this issue.

He should say he will show his birth certificate if Obama will show his birth certificate….

Does a congressman have to be born an American? Can they be naturalized, unlike the president?

A Congressman just needs to be able to walk

Doesn’t Frank know Hawaii passed a law against demanding birth certificates?
Is he also unaware that you don’t have to be a natural-born American citizen to be elected to Congress? To be seated in the House you have to have been a citizen for at least 7 years, but you don’t have to have been born in the US.
(Yes, that creates a potential problem if the Speaker should happen to be a naturalized citizen, and then need to succeed to the presidency through the process outlined in the 25th Amendment.)

Uhh, you need to remember. You’re dealing with Bwarney Fwank here. You’d better think twice before having one of those “You show me yours and I’ll show mine” exchanges.
Oh, and Bwarney’s tongue may be planted “firmly”, but it’s probably not in his cheek.

dirtseller, you’re correct. Only the top 2 office holders POTUS & VPOTUS must be natural born citizens according to A2S1C5. The rest can be just citizens, through naturalization, by conveyance etc.
Soon, even some of Obama’s blind believers, or “bliefers“ like the one who wrote this & many other HotAir so-called “birther” commentaries, will come to their senses. I can’t wait to see the inevitable & (hopefully) mile-long perp walk streaming out of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Why do Dims find it so hard to understand that there might be concerns about the first President with a foreign father and mother who didn’t meet the statutory age for automatic citizenship?
