Nikki Haley’s accuser: I’ll release texts and e-mails that prove the affair soon
posted at 5:57 pm on May 25, 2010 by Allahpundit
Didn’t he say originally that he’d have nothing more to say after his “confession”?
Republican blogger Will Folks, in an e-mail to The Daily Caller, said records of e-mails, text messages and phone records will prove he had an extramarital affair with South Carolina gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley.
“In the end, I think the record of communication here will end up speaking for itself,” Folks told The Daily Caller.
He told the local Fox affiliate that he’d just met with his lawyer and would release the material “soon.” More from one of his co-bloggers, who wonders why Haley hasn’t sued yet:
One reason for Team Haley’s reticence to call for the post’s removal or pursue a legal remedy against our founding editor could be that Nikki Haley and Will Folks both use Verizon Wireless for their personal cell phone service, and that any legal motion that’s filed would undoubtedly result in the publication of a flood of phone records, text messages, emails, voicemails and other data exchanges between the two protagonists in this unfolding drama…
All we can tell you for now is that the record of correspondence between the two of them began on November 20, 2005 – with an email sent at 8:33 a.m. from Haley’s State House email address … to Will Folks’ personal address … in which Haley complimented Folks on an article he had written praising her gubernatorial ambitions.
Maybe she hasn’t sued because … it’ll drag the story out even further, a lesson learned by celebrities vis-a-vis tabloids a thousand years ago? One mark in Folks’s favor, though: A South Carolina paper evidently was working on this story, and got at least one prominent pol to admit he’d heard the rumors before Folks ever came clean.
Former Sanford spokesman and FITSNews blogger Will Folks privately admitted a year ago to having a brief extramarital affair with GOP gubernatorial contender S.C. Rep. Nikki Haley, according to a Palmetto State Republican political operative…
Free Times has been investigating a story involving an alleged affair between Haley and Folks for several weeks and spoke with Folks about it May 14…
“There have been rumors about that,” said state Rep. Annette Young, a Dorchester County Republican, May 13. “I heard [it was Haley and] Will Folks.”…
Other House members have confirmed they’d heard about an alleged affair between Haley and Folks, but did not want their names to appear in this story.
“It’s not a secret,” said Columbia Democratic Rep. Todd Rutherford on May 13 while in the lobby of the legislative chambers. He added that other House members told him they’d heard such things, too.
Young claims she first heard the rumor about a year ago. Hmmmm. Here’s what I don’t get: If it’s all true and there’s documentation of it, why would Haley have denied it in the first place? It’s a classic case of the cover-up being worse than crime. All she would have had to do is say, “Yes, I made a mistake, but my husband and I are working through it.” Remember, she’s got Jenny Sanford in her corner for political cover and it’s a safe bet that the press wouldn’t have gone after a young mother for cheating the way they would a male candidate. If it turns out she lied, though — blatantly, with a paper trail to prove it — she’s in trouble. So why would she?
The right is still firmly in her corner at the moment, in any case. According to her spokesman, yesterday was her single biggest day of online fundraising ever (Red State is touting a money bomb for her as I write this in the name of “fighting the smears”) and she was way up in the last primary poll before this broke yesterday. Per PPP, it was Haley 39, McMaster 18, Barrett 16, Bauer 13 as of this weekend. What’ll it be tomorrow?

Now, do the GOP a favor and start a third party. At this rate, a true tea party would end before it ever begins! Rand Paul (wacko), Tim D’Annunzio (missing 17 screws), and now Nikki Haley (liberal in the bedroom)?

Well, this gay agenda tie-in oughta make your head spin. Connect the dots… I can personally tell you that the “Free Times” newspaper is very gay-centric. I’ve had many copies in my hands after leaving some of the gay clubs in Columbia, SC. It’s a fun read, but not exactly what I would call a reputable publication for breaking political news.
However, if this story happens to be true, it’ll be interesting to see if Nikki gets more or less forgiveness from the public. PPP notes that David Vitter and Mark Sanford have pretty good levels of support after admitting affairs.

No need to fight. Just get ready to watch the media standards on this, versus lying about being in Vietnam.

So politicians hearing rumors is evidence? Do you know how many rumors I have heard in my career about prominent politicians having affairs? I could start my own blog if that’s all the “evidence” you need. Such rumors almost come with the territory nowadays, especially if you are young and attractive.
Having been the victim of many such rumors in my career, I am more than skeptical about this and I know excatly zero about Nikki Haley. I do know that one of the laziest and easiest charges to throw around about any prominent woman who might be seen occasionally with a man she is not married to is that the two must be having an affair.

Regarding the ease with which he could forge his “evidence”. It would be difficult, unless he has someone on the inside at Verizon. He’d have to have the messages time stamped and linked to her phone, which would not be easy from the outside. As well, the emails would need to be spoofed in a way that the trail led back to her address, and the logs for the servers modified to reflect that trail. And the supposed voice mails would have to be run through some filters in order to clean up any cut-n’-paste action he would be performing on various audio segments he wanted to use.
This is all assuming he’s lying his ass off. If he’s got some legit evidence, then the means by which they’d be proven would be through the various server logs mentioned above. Having such proof would be a home run for him. If Verizon doesn’t keep data back that far, then it would ultimately come down to “he said, she said”. Which brings us back to where we are now.
Impossible to forge? No. Practical? Not at all. Expensive? Definitely.
nukemhill on May 25, 2010 at 6:29 PM
Ok, let me see if I understand this guys “logic”.
1) He told the story himself because he heard someone else might tell it, and wanted to get it out there. Knowing it makes her look bad, but doesn’t really affect him much.
2) He also didn’t want it to “drag on for weeks”… because of the damage it might do her.
3) Now he’s doing daily news updates to keep this story in the spotlight for as long as possible… hunh?
Does anyone else notice that #3 seems to directly contradict the motives he gave himself for #1 and #2; and that they were pretty stupid to begin with?
Hey, this guy might tell my friend’s wife he and I were out drinking last night instead of bowling like we said… I should tell her first and get my buddy in trouble before I see if this guy’s really going to say anything… because I’m that nice.
Really? Does anyone think that’s the rational move of a deep thinker who is your friend and has your best interests in mind? And when he keeps bringing it up every time you & your wife see him after that… does anyone think this is even the act of a friend?
When everything you’re doing seems to be working to smear someone you’re claiming is your friend I can assume one of several options.
1) They’re not you’re friend, and you’ve decided to dish the dirt you have on them. Definitely possible.
2) You’re generally a jerk to your “friends” and tend to attack them on occasion, because either you’re an ass, or you think it’s “funny”.
3) You’re far too stupid to realize what anything means, and that does make your information questionable.
4) You’re deranged and there’s no telling what mix of medications might get you back to some semblance of reality.
Mix and match from those options and pick your approved choice of who this guy is and why he’s doing this.
I know “Noble, honest, heroic truth-teller who really likes this candidate” didn’t make my list; which was this guy’s initial claim. That wasn’t by accident. “Super-genius capable of splitting atoms with his mind and using his psychic powers to fly” didn’t make the list either.

To prove this, you need photos, videos, hotel room clerks as witnesses, stained sheets (Ewww!) and DNA testing, etc.

terryannonline on May 25, 2010 at 6:33 PM
I think you have a wee bit of a contradiction there. I appreciate that your arguing a third-hand rumor is “evidence” when it’s backed by the participants own story, on the other hand it’s still a third hand rumor and thus may be evidence of nothing more than blogger-boy has been telling this tale for a while now and other people have already heard his story.
I think you would be on firmer ground if you just stuck to the principal that hearsay evidence is not admissable in a court of law or on Hot Air and left it that.

However, that being said this story is just too sterotypical for me to have much faith in it. the timing is too clear cut and the reasons for it to leak now are just too in your face.
It would take a willing suspension of disbelief to think even if true the story was not a major political hit piece.
