New Brewer ad: The fundamentals

posted at 9:31 am on May 22, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

Is this cheesy? You bet. One doesn’t normally see frog sock-puppets in political commercials doing sing-alongs about the virtues of reading. Then again, one doesn’t usually see an outbreak of illiteracy at the highest levels of government. Arizona Governor Jan Brewer takes aim at Washington elites who leaped to criticize the state’s new immigration-enforcement law by using a children’s educational television approach to remind people to actually read something before opining on it. That way, critics can actually know what they’re talking about — and may just find that their criticisms are unfounded before they start sharing them with the world:

How hard is it for a bunch of lawyers to read a law before commenting on it?  In the Obama administration, apparently … impossible.  And that makes this a very sad little froggy.

I saw a History channel thing this morning that was concerning. Just caught a few pieces before I turned it but it was concerning energy–wind and solar collection in the southwest. Podesta was on there and there was a lot of conjecture on “what if” the SW region of the country had a disruption in food supply/distro and the resultant displacement of people to other areas of the country.

I do believe that under the Obama regime, they want social upheaval, displacement and strife—and they are willing to achieve those ends through the rank manipulation of energy, health resources, water, food and overt lawlessness–while simultaneously avoiding blame for the resultant chaos.

Case in point, SEIU at the BoA fellas home. Had that man driven up, hard to tell what would’ve happened to him.

Love the humor such a pleasant respite from Obama’s scowl, doom and gloom, and everybody is evil except him and Joe Biden.

Think of the problems Obama created for himself by: 1) forcing Sarah Palin from her governorship and 2) by appointing Janet Napolitano Director of Homeland Security, making Jan Brewer goveror.

Palin has been solidly behind Brewer and 1070 since Brewer signed the law.

Answer;

“We send back them”

ted c on May 22, 2010 at 10:23 AM

That’s right they send them back, and they don’t give them taxpayer-funded lawyers or endless hearings and appeals first, either.

There were some other illuminating answers from Calderon in that interview. For example, when Blitzer asked the Mexican president if any foreigner can just come into Mexico and set up residence, he said (paraphrasing): No, they have to fill out an application first, and we have to conduct a background check to make sure they are who they claim to be, and that they don’t have a criminal record, etc.

Why is it perfectly acceptable for Mexico to have sensible laws limiting immigration and requiring would-be immigrants to be screened before coming into Mexico, but it’s not okay for the U.S. to do the same?

Blitzer also asked Calderon if immigrants in Mexico have to show their authorization papers to the Mexican police. Calderon said sure, because law enforcement have to be able to do their job. Again, it’s perfectly okay for them to do that, but it’s outrageously racist and a human rights violation if we do the same.

Blitzer also asked Calderon if illegal aliens can get jobs in Mexico. Calderon’s answer: No, of course not.

The Arizona bill is something like 12 pages long.

The HRCA is more than 100 times that length, and more full of legislative jargon that can be possibly understood. I actually give any politician a pass on not reading Obamacare; it’s so politically dense as to be absurd.

But twelve pages? Come on. If you can power through Beowulf or Atlas Shrugged, I think you can deal with 12 pages, since most of it is copy-pasted from federal law in the first place.

Doesn’t matter if they read the bill or not, it’s irrelevant. The facts are that it’s controlling the borders itself that they object to, not this way or that way of doing it. So there isn’t any border enforcement bill they’d support, regardless of how it was written, if it’s effective. Ace said it pretty well:

They support only the methods that won’t work — UAVs, “virtual fences,” other technobabble non-solutions — precisely because they won’t work, which is why they have a pass from the Open Borders lobby to support such measures.

Essentially they’re asking the bank robbers what they should do to improve vault security. The bank robbers tell them to leave the vault door open and turn off the alarms and fire the guards, and instead use “smart solutions” to guard the money, like big signs saying “Please don’t take our money.”

MSNBC knows that the hard left represents their whole audience so the pretense of veracity has been joined with logic, decency and now altruism on the garbage pile.

On the subject of the media, a week or so ago, Bill O. and Bernie, the author of a Slobbering Love Affair, were all over themselves apologizing for saying that certain charges were true of liberals. Horrors. Theey admitted that they should have said “most” or “many” liberals and kept the charge in accurate proportion and context. Funny, I think it was in response to some blather by that moron on Comedy Central. He caught Mr. Goldberg in a mean gereral comment. (I will not mention that some some character who would be at home with Media Matters has been posting other comments by Goldberg to support the idea that there is no left bias in out poison pipe of information.)

Please. I could go on a tangent about rhetoric and debate issues but the fundamental fact is that the audience assumes that such descriptions do no necessarily apply to or define the whole group they are identifying.

We can carry the PC and clear talking rules to the point that every sentence is loaded with qualifiers and structured to survive a test of being parsed by everyone on earth. Entertaining political discourse would be smothered.

On another subject, I am proud to say that I am trying to help your state and all involved.

How hard is it for a bunch of lawyers to read a law before commenting on it?

When our legislators refuse to acknowledge and recognize the valid response, (or the cry for help), that Arizona took to resolve the unchecked assault on this sovereign state, and instead use this tragedy to advance their political agenda, (with the blessings of a misguided and untrusting President), the recourse should be swift to correct this injustice. The path these legislators have chosen is in direct violation of our states rights to protect its citizens from foreign intervention with no regard or respect for our laws.

For every bracelet worn, and for every legislator who refuses to support these rights afforded to every legal American citizen, then let them understand fully the power of the electorate by returning each of them to the private sector where they can wallow in their ignorance and arrogance. Let this be their undoing. Indeed, let this be their waterloo.

Chris Christie, Jan Brewer, Michele Bachmann, Paul Ryan, Tim Pawlenty…. are all breaking ground, paving the way, and setting the tone for future elected representatives of Americans. The Old Guard in DC had better be packing their bags. It is long past time to clean Washington’s house, and these people are showing how it will get done.

And it amazes me that people like Newt Gingrich, Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, and even Jeb Bush and George Pataki actually are still considering a serious run at the presidency sometime in the near future. They all, at significant levels, played a part in creating the dynamics which now threatens to tear apart this great country. They need to get a clue, bow out gracefully, and let new blood and new energies step forward to undo the dreadful damage that has been done by both parties. A clean sweep and return to the solid foundations which created this great nation will require courage, and the ability to ignore the negative attacks from the party establishments, and especially the MSM.

And the frog gets my vote for Speaker of the House!

Rats are now in charge of Wash. D.C. They spread the disease called “one-world internationalism”. See Obama’s West Point speech of today. It’s a socialist/communist disaster for the U.S. Keep him and his in power and deserve it, richly.

America’s good days are over. If you lived them, in the last 60 years, you are the luckiest people on Earth. She’s slowly but surely fading away. History books might, or might not, write about these times.

In the young history of the U.S. they represent 25% of her existence. Much has happened to build, little time taken to destruct. It’s really exponential in mathematical terms…sadly.

The USSR has come and gone; the Soviet rule of East Berlin has come and gone; anyone with the stomach to do so can poke through the rubble of post-Communist Russia and Germany, read released segments of KGB and STASI archives, talk to people who lived in that world and hear what their wretched lives were like: see their 3-room walkup apartments and look at their 2-cylinder cars and their plastic shoes and clothing, and learn about their medical and dental care and their diet and the grim, grey, grimy world they inhabited.

For a half-century of Cold War, we in the U.S. taxed ourselves trillions of dollars for defense, and accepted tens of thousands of our people killed and injured, in a war that eventually freed the Berliners, among others, from Communism.

But BY GOD I’d love to see the Lefties’ beloved Communism re-instituted! I’d love to see it shoved up the Lefties ALL the way to the hilt — and broken off. I’d love to see every Leftie who swoons at the glories of Socialism compelled to LIVE under it for two centuries, since most of one century evidently wasn’t long enough to give them a clue.

Stick it in slowly and covertly, Obama-Socialist-fashion or stick it in openly and briskly, euro-Soviett style. Whatever the tactics, I say if people crave Socialism so deeply, then give it to them. I’ll leave the world a smiling, happy man if I can see that justice done.

…enjoy seeing the triumphs of Gov. Brewer and the rest of the strong willed Arizonan Republicans

Just a quick note this list does not include Amnesty McStain. He’s a Johnny come lately to border security and if he wins he’ll tack back to the left like he always does. I live in AZ and I can see the primary being Johnny Rino’s end just like Snarl’ Arlen.

They should ask Obama if he’s read it.

Oh wait, he doesn’t do press conferences any more.

Emperor Obama believes in lynching first, reading evidence later, if ever. He has a habit of this. He did it with the cop and he did it with the Hondurans, for just a couple of examples. He would have made a good KKK Grand Wizard as he shares the mentality so well.

Some nitwit on the left (I know that doesn’t exactly narrow it down) claims the frog represents some secret coded racial epithet in 5…4….3…..

I think it must be noted that nobody’s been able to ask the guy a legit question since he said the cops acted stupidly early LAST YEAR.

UnderstandingisPower on May 22, 2010 at 6:53 PM

Green froggy for president! (it sure can’t be worse than what we have now).

I think it’s kind of sad when you have to keep THE PRESIDENT away from the press because you’re afraid of what nonsense is going to come out of his indiscreet mouth.

Maybe he’s not actually trying to alienate all our allies, maybe he has a serious impulse control disorder. Which one’s worse?

Merovign on May 22, 2010 at 7:53 PM

Great ad, but are they (we) paying to run it on TV, hopefully in places like SF or LA, or is just in Youtube? IMHO web-only political ads, no matter how pointedly clever, are basically just a form of wanking off.
