Video: Democrats give Mexican president standing ovation for dumping on Arizona

posted at 4:57 pm on May 20, 2010 by Allahpundit

I’m at a loss. I know they have to pander to Latinos ahead of the midterms, especially with amnesty D.O.A. in the Senate. But I don’t see how applauding a foreign leader — whose country is almost singlehandedly responsible for America’s endless immigration battles — for slamming a fantastically popular state law is a net gain in votes. They’ve already been saddled with the narrative that they can’t stop apologizing for America; you’d think they’d try extra hard here to simply sit in respectful silence while he does his shpiel rather than leaping out of their seats to grandstand. As it is, I guess they … really can’t stop apologizing for America, even when the optics involved are poisonous to their own electoral interests.

Orrin Hatch, who’s learned some lessons from Bob Bennett’s fate, fires away:

“It’s inappropriate for a head of state to question our laws, especially when the state of Arizona only acted in the best interest of its citizens and with the support of seventy percent of its people,” said Hatch in a statement.

Hatch said Arizona was forced to pass the immigration law — which compels state law enforcement officials to require proper legal residency papers from people they suspect may be in the U.S. illegally — because of the federal government’s failure to stop drug and human smugglers, as well as illegal immigrants, from coming across the U.S.-Mexico border.

Look carefully in the vid and you’ll see Janet Napolitano (in the blue jacket) and Eric Holder (to her right) springing to their feet to pile on. While that was happening, Rasmussen was pushing out its new poll showing 71 percent support among Arizona voters for the law, which is seven points higher than it was in April. And here are new national numbers from Fox News:

A Fox News poll finds 65 percent of American voters think states should have right to make their own immigration laws and protect their borders “if they believe the federal government has failed to act,” while 32 percent disagree. Moreover, a 52 percent majority favors their own state passing a bill similar to Arizona’s new immigration law. Some 31 percent would oppose it and another 18 percent is unsure…

The key provisions of Arizona’s immigration law receive significant support. Over two-thirds (65 percent) favor allowing local authorities to question anyone who they think may be in the country illegally, while 76 percent favor allowing local officials to detain anyone who cannot prove their immigration status.

Mark Krikorian warns that we do enough meddling in other countries’ business that we should expect a little meddling in our own, but of course much depends on who’s doing the meddling. It’s not so much the “meddling” here as the breathtaking shamelessness of this tool complaining about the way Arizona handles a problem that he’s bequeathed to them in front of an audience whose own wretched lack of political will on border enforcement forced Arizona to act. It’s a repulsive spectacle. And as bad as it is, it’s not even the most audacious bit of meddling that Calderon did today. Brace yourself for this.

Update: Lefties are tweeting at me that Republicans were standing up too. I can’t tell from the vid, but name names in the comments if you know who they were.

more than 80 percent of those we have been able to trace came from the United States.”

I need to do some research, but I remember that this same claim was made last year, and quickly debunked by people in the know. Turns out that the amount of guns “we have been able to trace” [say the Mexicans] is only about 10% of the total guns seized — the vast majority of which are coming from places in the Middle East and Russia (IIRC). The Mexicans aren’t able to trace the vast majority of the weapons because they don’t have serial numbers like the ones from the U.S. must have. So basically, this is just another lie told by the Mexican president in his quest to blame all of his country’s problems on the U.S.

I hereby declare 5-5-2011 to be the first Patriot’s Day!

Everyone make a note on your calendars to fly OUR colors and to wear Red, White and Blue and show all the disrespect and scorn for the Red, White and Green that you can. These pampered illegal “guests” in our country think that they can disrespect us and our laws, as they sneak in to our country and that we cannot even fly our own colors on our soil. Screw them! Let’s all do our part to tell them, civilly but unmistakeably that they are NOT welcome to come here without an invitation!

Hmmm. Strange. For Calderon to condemn our enforcement of immigration law, then he must think his own country’s efforts in that area–in which illegals are imprisoned after being abused and raped–is preferable. So, I guess Democrats now want illegals in this country to be sent to jail for years and our Border Patrol to routinely abuse and rape them? Wow. I mean I knew Democrats were pro-human trafficking, but now they are pro-rape? Amazing.

People hardly ever have anything nice to say about Neville Chamberlain, but at least he never had Adolf Hitler damning England from Buckingham Palace.

All this siding with foreigners illegally in the U.S.A (and their serf master employers and campaign contributors) against Arizonians by Obama, and his lackeys, and by proxy against most Americans, as according to polls most Americans support Arizona, will, if anything, only fuel resentment of illegals and encourage illegals to commit violence if they don’t get their way.

If Obama does not realize this then he is a moron. If he does realize this then he is a psychopath.

It is hard to believe that Barack Hussein Obama is that much of a moron so the presumptive diagnosis must be that he is a psychopath. More specifically his pathology is that of a pyromaniac.

Obama is a President who will live in infamy. He is at war with his own country. Siding with a foreign nation, Mexico, and it’s invading nationals, against his own nation which he swore an oath to.

On the gun question, Mr. Calderón said: “We have seized 75,000 guns and assault weapons in Mexico in the past three years, and more than 80 percent of those we have been able to trace came from the United States.”

That could mean they were able to trace 20 guns, and out of those 20, 17 of them were from the USA.

Fun with statistics.

A nation can survive its fools and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and he carries his banners openly against the city. But the traitor moves among those within the gates freely, his sly whispers rustling through all alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears no traitor; he speaks in the accents familiar to his victim, and he wears their face and their garments and he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation; he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of a city; he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to be feared. The traitor is the plague.

On the gun question, Mr. Calderón said: “We have seized 75,000 guns and assault weapons in Mexico in the past three years, and more than 80 percent of those we have been able to trace came from the United States.”

This is true only because 90% of the weapons could not be traced. Of the 10% that could be traced 80% were traced to the US.

In a private meeting with Hispanic Republican activists last week, Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele called for a comprehensive immigration policy that puts families first – a stance at odds with some conservatives in his party who see border security and enforcement as top priorities.

Steele also said Republican leaders are sensitive to “the perception of racism in law” following the signing of a tough new immigration bill in Arizona

I say Rand Paul just has to play this video, and say Jack Conway is for it, then add the health care bill to the mix, and all this stupid distraction on racism $hit will fail.

The whole frigging world has gone nuts.

capitalist piglet on May 20, 2010 at 5:48 PM

Sigh! I so long for the good old days when folks said that people like Rush Limbaugh were complete loons for saying that America was on a “slippery slope” regarding limiting the rights of smokers in the work place.
We have left the slippery slope, and I am reminded of the scene from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid when the posse is about to catch up with them. Butch wants to jump off the cliff into the raging river. Sundance admits he can’t swim, and Butch laughs that “The fall will probably kill you.”.. So they jump into the raging river, with a hearty “Oh S**T!” and head straight for the waterfall.

Well, we have jumped off the cliff, are being bumped and battered as we rapidly approach the falls. The difference? We won’t make it out alive on the other side.
I miss the slippery slope. (I also promise I’m going to learn to link from UTube.)

Aztlan! Si! We mus’ push oud the “pink rats.”

“As Chicanas and Chicanos of Aztlán, we are a nationalist movement of Indigenous Gente that lay claim to the land that is ours by birthright. As a nationalist movement we seek to free our people from the exploitation of an oppressive society that occupies our land. Thus, the principle of nationalism serves to preserve the cultural traditions of La Familia de La Raza and promotes our identity as a Chicana/Chicano Gente.”

Stand up and applaud, Democrats!

This speech in Congress is not explicitly racist but it confirms something I’ve been trying to point out for a long time: Anti-white racism is a fundamental philosophy of the Democratic Party.

Django on May 20, 2010 at 6:05 PM

I remember Lech Wałęsa doing so some twenty years ago. He began his speech with “My naród”–”We the people.”

year_of_the_dingo on May 20, 2010 at 5:53 PM

Thanks! I’m struck by the fact that Welesa had enough class not to take a giant figurative poop in his hosts’ house.
This may go down as a “pounding the shoe moment.” Shows that “Senor Jose Himenez”, is almost as classless and clueless as Senor Barack Obama.

Democrats: Standing up for criminals.

Democrats: Ignoring their own laws.

Democrats: Screwing the Law Abiding.

PappaMac on May 20, 2010 at 6:06 PM

Which particular fool(s) stood up first? The rest who followed suit are the typical sheep that we have come to expect in the Democrat party.

onlineanalyst on May 20, 2010 at 6:09 PM

“Senor Jose Himenez”

Oops! phonetic brainf**t: Make that, “Jimenez.”

Question: Does anyone really believe we’re gonna get ourselves out of this? I’m heading for a weekend at the beach while it still exists, but does anyone think we have the strength to fight this menace that has wreaked havoc on this fine Nation?

I do. But it’s lookin’ like I’ll be alone.

Key West Reader on May 20, 2010 at 6:16 PM

I don’t believe the President of Mexico deserves the treatment he’s getting around here. He’s been allowed to make it clear what he thinks of the Arizona law so why should he believe it to be wrong to say so before Congress. Besides, a majority of Congress gave him a Standing Ovation.

It is up to the Democrats to show President Calderon the error of his ways. Alas, our Democrats care more about potential votes than they do about their country.

bflat879 on May 20, 2010 at 6:16 PM

Purely poor taste.

Cabela’s current ad has a special on RPG-7’s, buy two and get five free rockets in a nice carrying pouch.

The staff at Cabellas are patriots they called ATF on a straw buyer in Buda Texas. She was buying and giving the guns to wetback drug guys. She and the wetbacks got nailed by the staff and in store video.Joke or not you may need a lot of things from the camping section when it hits the fan. Sorry to be harsh but do not dis the good guys leave that up to the messican pres.

Chewy the Lab,

Tony Blair gave a great speech to Congress about four years ago.

Tuning Spork on May 20, 2010 at 6:17 PM

So they called it Casa Blanca eh…..mmmmm

Any number of names could fit for the Destroyers Administration.

Maybe………..

Casa Marx

Casa Hugo

Casa El Slimo

Casa en Fuego

Any others you can think of?

Okay then, let’s send LadyBoy down to Mexico to diss them. I’m sure he’ll accept that invite and perform well. I’m sure LadyBoy will denounce the kidnapping and execution of American Citizens within our borders. I’m sure that he will denounce the home invasions, drug cartels and the incursion by Mexican Army forces into our borders.

Oh, wait. We’re talkin’ bout LadyBoy. Ain’t never gonna happen.

Key West Reader on May 20, 2010 at 6:19 PM

This is why we need to be more united. We spend our time doing face palms over Rand Paul and Palin. We NEED TO TAKE THE Libs out in November!! THIS IS OUR ENEMY! They stand for this gutless worm from Mexico. And another thing…no one asks What’s wrong w/ Mexico that everyone wants out of the the SH*T hole?? Someone explain this to me!!!

Yeah. Casa De Functo. As in obsolete, obliterated, no longer saleable, no longer viable. A thing of the past. Democrats = DeFuncto! Viva le DeFuncto!

I’m sure the Chinese would gladly send a container of a couple thousand full-auto ak-47s to any port in Central/South America for $20 a copy.

Rebar on May 20, 2010 at 6:27 PM

Hey Calderon, it’s not our soldiers that are deserting and donating their automatic weapons to the drug cartels.
