Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:05 am on May 19, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

Still batting … .000:

That’s the fourth major candidate for whom Barack Obama campaigned since taking office. So far, he’s worked his magic on Martha Coakley, Jon Corzine, Creigh Deeds, and now Arlen Specter. If this is what comes from having Obama tell audiences that he “loves” a candidate, Democrats may want him to admire them from a distance through the rest of the midterms.

Besides, when exactly did Obama fall in “love” with Specter? Was it when Specter ran away from Pat Toomey at the speed of light?

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Illustrations by Chris Muir of Day by Day. Be sure to read the adventures of Sam, Zed, Damon, and Jan every day!

It’s going to be depressing come November if Dems are going to be able to get elected simply by pretending they don’t support President Obama’s agenda.

I suspect that President Obama was secretly encouraging Sestak anyway. He had to back Specter to get his vote on ObamaCare, and it worked. He got his ‘legacy’ and the more liberal candidate in Pennsylvania.

BadgerHawk on May 19, 2010 at 8:11 AM

“The difference between 1994 and 2010 is, You’ve got Me.”

I hope every democrat up for election in November hears this running endlessly through their minds as they struggle to sleep for the next 6 months.

Maybe putting a bell around his neck would help Dem contenders. They used to do that to lepers.

Senator Defects to Democrats

Specter’s Switch Puts Obama on Verge of Filibuster-Proof Majority Over GOP

The Defection occured/

WASHINGTON — Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter said Tuesday he is switching parties, almost certainly giving President Barack Obama and the Democrats the ability to build a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate.

Mr. Obama praised Mr. Specter for his work on health care, education, expanding America’s manufacturing base and medical research. Pointing out that Mr. Specter has battled multiple life-threatening diseases, Mr. Obama called the senator “one tough hombre.”

Johnnyreb on May 19, 2010 at 8:23 AM

I don’t see how incumbents will get away with that. Unless the electorate is so dumb that they don’t even bother to read their voting records.

That’s why the challengers need to expose incumbent’s voting records and put it right under the voter’s noses day after day after day.

parteagirl on May 19, 2010 at 8:23 AM

You know, of course, that Obama is sitting in that big oval room this morning thinking that it’s just too damn bad that all of the candidates he has supported just aren’t as gifted and wonderful as he is.

I think it was when he got his 60th vote for some dreadful bills he wanted – back when people still thought there was a “filibuster” in the Senate.

Democrat Reid writes: “`That speech was phenomenal, Barack,’ I told him. And I will never forget his response. Without the barest hint of braggadocio or conceit, and with what I would describe as deep humility, he said quietly: `I have a gift, Harry.”‘

BadgerHawk on May 19, 2010 at 8:20 AM

True, but the key there is he was a Murtha aide. He wasn’t an incumbent. Take Bill Owens in NY-23. He was able to run as a moderate Dem, but literally the moment he was sworn in, he flip-flopped and backed Obamacare. When he runs for reelection in November, there’s no way in hell he can hide from that vote.

One analyst said it was national versus local. The Republican had national support and the Democrat (who went around promising goodies and freebies the other guy could not deliver) ran a local race. And got local votes. This scares me about Rubio/Crist because all Crist has is to promise what goodies and freebies HE can deliver to Floridians, and they know him.

President Barack Obama has called state Attorney General Richard Blumenthal to congratulate him on his candidacy for the U.S. Senate.

The White House reports that Obama called Blumenthal last night and offered to help him with the campaign to win the seat of retiring Sen. Christopher Dodd, a fellow Democrat.

If Blumenthal loses in CT, then we can add him to the burgeoning loser list.

People are getting arrested for looking into his background now. Ah, nope.

It will be interesting to hear what bizarre, twisted, self-delusional logic he comes up with to explain this lose.

The Anti-incumbent, “throw the bums out” really doesn’t work.

This will be an Anti-Arrogant, Anti-Stupid election.

The ONLY Repubs that have something to worry about are the ones who supported the Stim plan despite not being allowed to read it.
Despite being locked out of negotiations.
Those Repubs are finished, done stick a fork in it.

And

Those who supported the Obama care, despite not being allowed to read it.
Despite being locked out of negotiations.
Those Repubs are finished, done stick a fork in it.

I wonder how long it will take for the Trolls to come up with their talking points and disseminate them!
