Wright: Obama “threw me under the bus literally!”

posted at 12:55 pm on May 18, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

If nothing else, this historical curio unearthed by the Associated Press gives us a chance to revisit Jeremiah Wright and his lunacy as a reminder about Barack Obama’s radical connections — and how mercilessly he cuts loose of them when exposed.  When pressed by the group Africa 6000 to use his influence to get Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner for access to millions of dollars in Haiti earthquake relief in February, Wright told the group that he was “toxic” — and vented his anger at Obama:

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Barack Obama’s controversial former pastor, said in a letter obtained by The Associated Press that he is “toxic” to the Obama administration and that the president “threw me under the bus.”

In his strongest language to date about the administration’s 2-year-old rift with the Chicago pastor, Wright told a group raising money for African relief that his pleas to release frozen funds for use in earthquake-ravaged Haiti would likely be ignored.

“No one in the Obama administration will respond to me, listen to me, talk to me or read anything that I write to them. I am ‘toxic’ in terms of the Obama administration,” Wright wrote the president of Africa 6000 International earlier this year.

“I am ‘radioactive,’ Sir. When Obama threw me under the bus, he threw me under the bus literally!” he wrote. “Any advice that I offer is going to be taken as something to be avoided. Please understand that!”

The AP reports that Wright eventually relented and asked Geithner for the funds.  The money originated with Uday Hussein, who gave £87 million to Muhammed Ali and his manager Arthur Morrison in 1990 to buy medicine and food for Iraqi children after Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait and triggered international sanctions.  Morrison was imprisoned at the time,  however, for making terrorist threats to hospitals where his ex-girlfriend worked, and apparently the US seized the funds, which remain unspent.

There is no update on whether Geithner released the funds to Africa 6000.  The memo got revealed in an appeal by Morrison, though, which is how the Associated Press discovered it.

Does this tell us anything we don’t know about Barack Obama?  The Wright connections were exhaustively covered by conservative media outlets, and this doesn’t add too much to that.  It does tell us that Obama wasn’t kidding around when he finally cut Wright loose.  If the letter is an unpleasant reminder of Wright’s 20-year influence on Obama, the White House can at least take comfort from the corroboration of Obama’s public repudiation in the spring of 2008.

More than 20 years after Rev. Jeremiah Wright allegedly stole the wife of a man whom he was counseling, he reportedly moved on to another married woman.

Dallas church worker Elizabeth Payne, 37, claims she had a sexual affair with Wright. When rumors of the relationship began to surface, Payne’s husband left and she lost her job as a secretary to the Rev. Frederick Haynes III at Friendship-West Baptist Church, according to the New York Post.

“I was involved with Rev. Wright, and that’s why I lost my job and why my husband divorced me,” Payne said.

This Uday Hussein/Iraq connection is interesting. Mohammed Ali was also tied to Obama’s pal, Tony Rezko:

Rezko put together endorsement deals for Ali, became the executive director of the Muhammad Ali Foundation, and traveled the world with Ali for five years.

And –

As his business ventures began failing, Rezko entered into several partnership with Iraqi-born business executive Nadhmi Auchi, including a massive 2005 real estate development project on Chicago’s South Loop whose value was pegged by an observer familiar with the deal at $130.5 million. In 2008. Rezko was imprisoned for his failure to disclose a $3.5m loan from Auchi.

I want to know more about this deal.

The Wright connections were exhaustively covered by conservative media outlets…

I disagree. I don’t think Wright has been exhaustively covered by the conservative media. Sure, we all know about his crazy ramblings and that Obama was a member of his church, but how many really understand that communism is the lynchpin of Wright’s liberation theology? And how many know of Wright’s deep communist ties?

It’s no accident that Obama was a member of that church. The Obamas were members because of Wright’s theology–a theology which bears virtually no resemblance to biblical Christianity–not because of who was teaching it or because he needed a church to further his political career (though that may be true). And I don’t think Obama’s past connections can be explored or reiterated enough. Americans, including the vast majority of conservatives (not necessarily politically aware Hotairians) must wake up to who Obama really is. He’s not your garden variety liberal Democrat.

All politics. Nothing, absolutly nothing tops politics and campaigning with Obama. He’d toss his own mother to the wolves if it meant either gaining or losing votes in the end. Any ethics he may have are always superceded by and weighed against their effect on the voting public of the moment. That includes his responses to whatever fragments of his job might happen catch his attention. His advisers are cut from the same cloth.

The money originated with Uday Hussein, who gave £87 million to Muhammed Ali and his manager Arthur Morrison in 1990 to buy medicine and food for Iraqi children after Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait and triggered international sanctions.

If Uday Hussein really wanted to feed Iraqi children, why didn’t he buy the food directly, as the son of the “President” of Iraq?

But can’t we give these funds back to IRAQ, now that it has a democratically elected government? Or are Iraqi children not black enough for Reverend Wright?

Wright is right about one thing–he IS radioactive.

It has to do with the President’s father, Barack Hussein Obama Sr. He had already been married when he met Stanley Ann Dunham, the President’s mother, then he left her when the President was two years old, and had children with two other women in Kenya. All told, this paragon of virtue fathered 8 children with four different women, but only one (the President) with Stanley Ann Dunham. So the President has seven half-siblings, but no full siblings.

The Wright connections were exhaustively covered by conservative media outlets…

Ed – problem is, the main conservative exposer of the Wright connections was another person who overuses the word “literally” (a.k.a. Sean Hannity).

SO it is ironic that the main person to “out” Obama’s connections with the radical Rev. Wright also has a hard time distinguishing between “literally” and “figuratively.”

Of course Hannity and Wright are a symptom of a much larger problem. People saying “literally” when they really mean “figuratively,” is one of my major pet peeves. People do it all the time.

“Literally” is almost as overused as the word “like” is used by valley girl talking middle school and high school girls.

From Version 2.1.2 of Dictionary:

literally |ˈlitərəlē; ˈlitrə-|
adverb
in a literal manner or sense; exactly : the driver took it literally when asked to go straight across the traffic circle | tiramisu, literally translated “pick me up.”
• informal used for emphasis or to express strong feeling while not being literally true : I have received literally thousands of letters.
USAGE In its standard use, literally means ‘in a literal sense, as opposed to a nonliteral or exaggerated sense,’: : I told him I never wanted to see him again, but I didn’t expect him to take it literally . In recent years, an extended use of literally (and also literal) has become very common, where literally (or literal) is used deliberately in nonliteral contexts, for added effect: : they bought the car and literally ran it into the ground. This use can lead to unintentional humorous effects ( : we were literally killing ourselves laughing) and is not acceptable in formal English.(emphasis mine)

Mr. Wright, I strongly suggest you invest an a dictionary and use it often.
