Video: New PA-12 ad for Tim Burns

posted at 6:00 pm on May 16, 2010 by The Other McCain

The special election for Jack Murtha’s old seat in western Pennsylvania’s 12th District is Tuesday, and here is the closing argument from Republican Tim Burns:

(Hat-tip: SusanAnne Hiller at Red State.) Meanwhile, the American Action Network — which is helping bring campaign volunteers to PA-12 — is running this ad in support of Burns:

(Hat-tip: Jim Hoft at Gateway Pundit.) I was in Washington, Pa., yesterday when Sen. Scott Brown came to campaign for Tim Burns:

Here’s video of Scott Brown’s speech at the courthouse in Washington, Pa. — the coincidence of the town’s name gives him an opportunity for some pointed humor:

Afterwards, Scott Brown was interviewed by a reporter from Pittsburgh station KDKA-TV:

The reporter tried some premature presidential speculation:

KDKA Political Editor Jon Delano asked [Brown] if he was considering running for president.
“Well, I have to be honest with you. I’m focused on doing my job for the citizens of Massachusetts and helping people like Tim get elected,” he said. “I have no interest in running for president.”
But others say his new celebrity gives him presidential potential.
“I think he’s a true conservative, and right now that is absolutely what we need,” Chrystal Fidazzo, of South Franklin Township, said.

Before anybody starts jumping aboard the Brown 2012 bandwagon, however, there is this special election on Tuesday. You can get the latest updates on the PA-12 campaign by checking #PA12 on Twitter, and also by following @TimothyBurns or his campaign’s outreach coordinator, Angela Lash (@Lash3).

The Burns campaign is still inviting all Tea Party activists and conservatives to come volunteer in the final push to Election Day. To find out how you can help, visit TimBurnsForCongress.com, or e-mail the campaign or call 814-619-3414.

Vote for Burns for the special election, but vote for William Russell in the Republican primary for the fall election for the full term that begins in 2011.

Blue seat gone red.

Wake me when it’s over. Any candidate that has Scott Brown’s support isn’t much of a candidate.

Nothing to see here.

Um, he’s better than Teddyquiddick in the Senate, but true conservative? That’s the same kind of critical analysis that got us our current precedent.

All of these ads are starting to sound the same. Like an echo chamber. I’d rather see performance vs. theatrics.

Key West Reader on May 16, 2010 at 6:30 PM

Sheesh people. This was Murtha’s seat for a gazillion years. The Republicans have a real chance to take the seat. Someone like Scott Brown works in this purplish, blue collar, Union heavy area. Sure, I want every candidate to be a Tea Party type Conservative, but we need to be realistic and have some flexibility. A stringent purity test will not work in every area of the country.

And hey, if Burns turns out to be a RINO and the people of PA-12 don’t like him, they can vote him out next time. Just like the people in MA can give Brown the boot.

Isn’t that the same Scott Brown who just voted with the Ds for more deficit spending via borrowing more money from China for another “jobs” bill?

Sheerq on May 16, 2010 at 6:45 PM

Hope he is better then Scott. Scott is better then Kennedy, but true Conservative? Not so much. Tim has to be better then Jack. You can’t always get what you want, but you’ll find sometimes you get what you need.

Yes … that would be him. The same guy that wasn’t too embarrassed to pose nude for Cosmo – but pisses his pants at the thought of having to be photographed with a Tea Party Grandma.

Yes – one and the same – you have nailed him.

HondaV65 on May 16, 2010 at 6:56 PM

I wish we could have someone like that here in Nebraska. We’re stuck with Lee Terry who voted for TARP and Cash for Clunkers.

Yakko77 on May 16, 2010 at 6:56 PM

Didn’t this guy have the ad from the point of view of someone at a computer visiting his opponent’s Facebook to watch anti-coal and pro-global warming video he had posted there? That was a great ad.

I agree conservative pigrim. I would like to have real conservatives, but this has been a blue seat for so very long. Putting one of Murtha’s corrupt cronies in the seat doesn’t help our cause at all. It keeps the corrupt machine in place and we’re back to spinning our wheels. Lets take what we can and move on. Fixing this disaster is not going to be done over night.

volsense on May 16, 2010 at 7:05 PM

I sent Scott Brown money……….but won’t do it again.

I sent him money to kill OBAMACARE and have him be the blocking vote, now he’s just a Northeastern RINO and will probably be gone the next election.

Brown for President? uh, that’d be a NO.

I’m with both of you. While number 1 priority is voting conservatives into every district, number 1A is seeing Nancy Pelosi handing over that gavel!

PatMac on May 16, 2010 at 7:49 PM

Burns is NOT a real conservative…Bill Russell is…I’ve stated the reasons before…Rob Gleason, the head of the GOP in Pennsylvania has made a fortune underwriting the defense contracts that Murtha bought in…they were friends- at least in business…yes, folks it is that sleazy…Burns wooed Gleason by pouring money into the PA. GOP & other candidates so that the PA. GOP didn’t have to…as well as self-funding…Rob Gleason underwrote the insurance policy for Kurchera…and has made a fortune…yes, the same defense company that Murtha was possibly about to go down for…all tea-party activists & conservatives stay away from this poser…the facts are out there…and not so hard to find…the alot like the other McCain is just apparently too lazy to do any research…or bought off..like 99% of the other political bloggers that pretend to be Bob Novak…although they do no TRUE research on their own…let me give you a little tip…politics is a nastier business than you want to know & you bloggers endorsing candidates that massage your ego is a joke…but DON’T ever call someone a conservative again without having a clue…because I am fighting for true conservatives…I do have a clue & I am in DC fighting…in the spirit of Reagan…TRUE CONSERVATIVES will take back the GOP…with or without liberals in GOP clothing…Bill Russell is the ONLY conservative running in PA-12…

DCJeff on May 16, 2010 at 9:21 PM

You tell them DCJeff.

karenhasfreedom on May 16, 2010 at 9:44 PM

Meh … I just looked at the ad for this guy and here is what I see …

His platform is the same as most Republicans – VOTE FOR ME because I won”t let the Democrats spend any more of your money. Let’s stipulate for a moment that that is true – even though we know his “mentor”, Scott Brown, cast his first vote in the Senate to do exactly that – spend more money.

But let’s just say that electing Republicans means no more expansion of government spending programs …

It’s …

Not enough … not by a long shot.

Where are the ads saying that … “WE WILL ROLL BACK SPENDING” … “I SUPPORT CUTTING THE FEDERAL BUDGET NEXT YEAR BY 30 PERCENT”.

Those are the ONLY commitments that are going to save this nation. Simply saying – “I won’t expand government any more than it already is” … is like saying … “Hey, the train to hell is rolling along fast enough – so I’ll promise you I won’t speed it up anymore. Enjoy the scenery though – because we’re heading into hell because I don’t have the BALLS to change directions”.

So this guy looks to me like another doofus politician like Scott Brown.

By the way – has this guy posed nude for any mags?

DCJeff on May 16, 2010 at 9:21 PM

Where’s the ole team spirit there Jeff? I mean, you do realize that politics is a mere sporting event … we’re the red team – sally up and support the program!

We need a guy in a RED shirt in that seat because … well, because we want to WIN by dammit!

Pay no attention to those idiots conservatives who say that RINO’s don’t help to save this nation, which is currently careening off the tracks. What do they know? Politics is simply a sport for thinking men … a gladiatorial exhibition power and greed.

Sure … these guys also hold our kids future in their hands but forget that crap – we want to WIN! WIN! WIN!

So vote for any Republican that has a chance to win … and hope he don’t switch parties later on down the road! If he does, we’ll crap on him and call him a loser – and blame everything on him – but we won’t blame ourselves for not being smart enough to tell which direction the guy was coming from in the beginning!

It’s all about WINNING bro! It’s all about denying liberals the win. Who cares if the people we elect just keep this nation heading into hell?

It’s about team spirit and supporting YOUR TEAM Jeff!

Dominion on May 17, 2010 at 12:12 AM

DCJeff,

I am from Johnstown and I am very familiar with the Gleason family since back when Bobby was picking up newspapers in a newsstand in downtown Johnstown for his dad.

First, everyone in the area knows the Gleason’s not so secretly supported Murtha. The local republican party always ran a stiff against Murtha.

Now Murtha is gone and the old ties just aren’t there anymore. The republican party owes Mark Critz nothing.

One thing is for sure if you knew anything about this area you would know that Bill Russell has no chance of ever winning in the 12th district. The comment Murtha made about Russell being a “carpetbagger” reflect the attitude of many people in the 12th district.

I also find it funny that Russell is attacking Burns because he is a millionaire. He is a self-made millionaire that came from a middle-class family. Isn’t that the American dream?
